Apparently Superloop was acquired by someone else and it’s now gone down the toilet compared to what it used to be?

    • +5

I asked Bing Chat if Superloop was acquired:

According to web search results, Superloop has not been acquired by another company, but it has received an acquisition proposal worth $494 million from QIC Private Capital in 2019. Superloop has also acquired several other companies, such as BigAir in 2016, Exetel in 2021, and VostroNet in 2022.

Could you please update if you have new info as I'm out of the loop with ISPs.

      • +4

I think might be getting confused with founder selling out his share holding. That was several months ago now.

I was with SL for a few years until January when jumped on Tangerine deal. Not my best decision as Tangerine is awful for foreign server gaming some nights.

      • +5

Are you out of the loop or out of Superloop?

      • You've been ChatGPT-Binged!

      • The only thing missing is that Superloop acquired MyRepublic's customers.

MyRepublic Exits Australian Market, Sells to Superloop

      • -1

Sorry for the delay. This is going based of Whirlpool comments.

    • I have a few friends with them who seem to be very happy.
Although Superloop are in the process of taking all of MyRepublics clients since they have left the country and maybe this is causing issues for them.

    • I had constant drops in speeds during peak times where I was getting 10-20mbs with the 100mbs plan. I don't plan on returning to them.

      • +3

        Username doesn't check out

    • +1

Superloop acquired Exetel a few years ago and recently MyRepublic's customers.

Superloop sales team call centre is now in Sri Lanka. Superloop technical support team is still in Adelaide.

MyRepublic Exits Australian Market, Sells to Superloop

      • Interesting- usually sales is the last go get offshored and tech support the first.

  • +1

I was happy with Superloop, but I jumped ship for a discounted More plan and free FTTP upgrade.

    • +10

When things went wrong with the node Superloop had an Australian call centre (?Adelaide) and a human who could think and reason without reading off a script. I was impressed.

      • Superloop support is good - the problem has always been wait times though.

        • +6

Actually support is now worse than before. It is outsourced overseas. the wait time are not too bad, the the speed at which the customer support answer your questions is really bad, it is like they do 3-4 clients at the same time.

And also they always quote the obvious and not really helpful.

Something like: "yes maybe you are right, the speedboost might not be working, I will reset the service on my end and….."

Wait, your colleague just did the same thing last week… And you just reset my connection like that, you don't even ask if I'm not in the middle of a Teams meeting or have important work.???

I'll churn after the 6 months promo.

          • @borgainerz: Damn. That's unfortunate. They've been helpful whenever I needed them =(

            • @kipps: Superloop sales team call centre is now in Sri Lanka. Superloop technical support team is still in Adelaide.

          • @borgainerz: I just called Superloop support. I spoke to a local engineer who was technical and not following a script (and fixed the problem during the call).

The wait time was long, but they have a queue callback service

    • +3

      Are More any good?
Considering them myself, given the CBA deal.

      • +2

Got gigabit with them recently with the CBA deal, very reliable and fast so far.

      • +1

getting at least once a week disconnection around midnight to 2am with more NBN

        • +9

Sounds like you're getting less NBN then

        • Had the same with More on 100/20, took the free fttp upgrade offer and no more disconnects -

      • -1

Which CBA deal please? Link or it did not happen ;)

        • It's an ongoing deal now. Simply go to More NBN's website, and toggle on the button about being a Commonwealth Bank customer and it'll give you the discounted rates on everything.

      • I personally haven’t been that impressed.

Stable enough but speeds are down for me compared to Superloop/Exetel

      • i’ve been with them nearly a year and no problems at all .

      • Use the 50/20 speed and always get that as a minimum. Normally 52 and that's at peak. Same company as tangerine.

      • +1

        Are More any good?

        My current speed is :

        Download: 263 Mbps
        Upload: 25.2 Mbps
        Ping: 2 ms
        Connection Type: Ethernet

        • Thanks.

        • That's a great ping time.

          • @pencilman: yep.

was getting 10-20 when on FTTC, now getting 2-3 most of the time on FTTP.

    • How do you get a free FTTP upgrade?

      • +2

Yup end of 2025 just around the corner.

      • How do you get a free FTTP upgrade?

I got an email from NBN telling me it was available in my street. I was FTTC previously.

    • I called Superloop to match More's price becos I didn't want to go through the hassle of churning.

So far I have gotten 2 x 6 month price match. I may still churn to more before it runs out in Jul

      • So did Superloop match More? Or will you be churning to More?

        • I rung Superloop now telling them my new customer deal had run out and I would be looking to move to Exetel if they could not match their deal.

I was told they would not be able to offer more than the two deals currently available which were:

          1. $10 discount per month for 6 months
          2. $5 discount per month for 12 months

Asked whether I could speak to a manager and was told 'it would be pointless, there is no other offers'.

I'll move to another provider before next month.

        • Sorry, no idea why I didn't get a notification.

Yes Superloop matched More. Still deciding if I will churn as I have had zero issues with Superloop

  • +1

I recently swapped to Superloop from Exetel as my 6 month intro price ran out with Exetel. Both are good providers IMO.

    • My Exetel promo ends this month so I need to look at moving too, but I have the kids mobiles with Exetel so need to workout if I’ll actually be saving by switching since I get the discounts for having the mobiles with Exetel

      • +4

Exetel offered me a "forever deal" of $75 pm for 100/20 after my 6 month promo ended. I happily took them up on it!

        • That’s unreal! I hope they can do that for me in 6 months. Sick of moving around tbh

        • Did you call them or was this on chat/email?

    • +2

      they are LITERALLY the same

      • Exetel still requires PPPoE but Superloop is IPoE. Exetel still has notice periods to cancel contracts too, whereas SL doesn't. Not quite the same. Common ownership, though, yes.

        • +6

          Superloop now says 30 days.

You may cancel your service at any time by giving Superloop thirty days’ notice (including if you do not wish to continue to use your service during the notice period).

          • +1

@Twix: They accepted my cancellation with I think around 20 days notice.

    • +1

Exetel are garbage as soon as there is an issue.

    • Hey. I ordered a service with super loop. It's still in the process cause I wanted my same VoIP number. But was thinking about going to exetel after the 6 month promo. How do you compare them. Is one better then the other. In terms of speeds and peak times. Or are they basically the same.

  • Do Superloop consider you a new customer again after 6 months or 12 months since jumping ship for a better deal?

    • 12 months unfortunately

      • What about Tangerine? 6 or 12?

        • +1

          No idea sry

          • @cooleagles: I read the Ts&Cs and it seems like Tangerine will never consider you a new customer unless you've changed address and account holder.

It is not available to customers with an existing Tangerine nbn™ service or who have previously had a
Tangerine nbn™ service. The offer is only available once per customer and per premises.

            :((

      • What's criteria as new customer? I terminated from Super loop 6 months ago when I moved. If I sign up with them again now with my new address, am I considered a new customer?

        • No idea sry. Jump on online chat and ask. They're pretty helpful.

      • Damn, I'm at 11 months.

  • Do they give fixed IP?

    • Last time I was with them I got them to throw in static IP for free. Just ask. Worst they say is no. Try the next person 😉

      • What’s the benefit of a static ip? Wouldn’t it be worse because the ip can’t be changed when hacked?

        • +1

Common use is for remote access without having to rely on a dynamic DNS service

        • +1

If you have to ask, you don't need one.

    • +1

Ipv4 = no fixed. Unless pay $5 per month.
      IPv6 = yes. Free

In addition, Superloop use CG-NAT as default but if you ask support nicely they'll change you to Dynamic IP. No charge

      • does changing to dynamic ip impact the speed?

        • I haven't noticed any change. I'm on 100/20 HFC and get ~105/18 both before and after switch to dynamic IP

  • +1

superloop won't give their speed boost function to existing customers, they want me to replace my plan, but it means I will lose promo pricing 🙄🙄

    • +1

Sounds fair enough. You're on an old plan with it's own benefits (cheaper price). Them asking you to go onto a current plan to get current benefits doesn't sound unreasonable.

      • +1

Nah they said there's a technical problem which means I have to be moved to the new database to use the new features, they will add it for all eventually but are having some delays. New plan is exactly the same, same rrp, same speed wrong database 😒

  • +1

    Im with them. Ama.

Ive had a really good experience with them (churned from ABB when they hiked the price on their existing customer just prior their IPO)

  • +2

Hitting up leaptel at the end of the month.

    12mths 50/20 for $59.

    • +1

Is this bargain still going? Can you please share a link?

        • I just messaged them. 24 month contract (for the 50/20).

Is that kind of contract term the norm?

          • +3

@rumblytangara: No, you can choose no contract or 24 month contract. It's up to you.

24 months gets you a free router.

The $15 discount that gives the $59.95 price point is for the first 12 months.

            • +1

@deva5610: Oh, good to know. I was just told 24 month contract over chat.

I'll switch over if there is no contract term with my existing provider.

I was wondering why on earth anyone would choose a fixed term contract, but looking at the cost of routers online makes it a not unreasonable proposition.

              • @rumblytangara: Yeah, you can play around with the online signup and you'll see it lets you choose which option you want, it's actually a very nice signup process tbf.

    • +1

Leaptel customer service is heaps better.

  • Have Myrepublic users been moved to Superoloop?

    • I recently tried to move to Superloop and their customer service was so slow. The reason was that my republic users switched over and they couldn’t cope with the numbers.

  • +2

Been using SL for a few years as they keep giving me retention discount. Only last time they were a bit relunctant, might gotta try futureBB soon-ish

    • How'd you go about getting a retention discount?

      • +2

Just call them and ask about it. it's 6 months discount.

  • +8

For those looking around, give Leaptel a look. All Aussie support, CVCs are not congested, and I find their international routing to be even better than Launtel. They are a small Aussie company that are very good at what they do (check their thread out on Whirlpool). Their support is excellent.

I signed up a few weeks ago on 100/40 for $85/mo for 12 months and they booked my FTTP upgrade in within 10 minutes, it’s being installed in a week!

They have similar 12 month discount deals on at the moment that are cheaper than this Superloop deal.

    • overseas support !!

      ….

      in Tassie :p

      • Leaptel are based in Melbourne. You're thinking of Launtel.

        • Ha !
          yes you're right, my mistake

    • +1

I'm switching to them once my superloop referrals expire.

They're definitely on the smaller scale. Recently, they announced that they would be building Netflix caches into their Melbourne and Sydney presence sites.

Hopefully their international routing to what I want is good.

    • They dont have 100/40 plans :(

  • +3

I recently switched to the 500/50 plan on this discount and it actually behaves more like 1000/50. It does not seem to be speed limited.

    • Can your router actually spit out 1000/50? Must be a beast if so, or you live in a toilet so you’re always next to it?

      • +2

        I use a 1gb ethernet connection…

  • From my knowledge Exetel & Superloop are the same - one owns the other.

  • Lol, just swapped from Superloop to Exetel. 250/25 for $83.95 with Exetel, fairly smooth transition, but had to log in via PPoE for the Exetel connection to work.

    • They're the same company now :p

      • Even less reason for there to be a $5/month difference in price. I was happy enough with the Superloop service, but same speed at $5 less is worth the switch
