      • Probably because a credit check costs the same for both if you meet the eligibility criteria for platinum and don't mind spending slightly more annual fee for the additional benefits.

        • I take your point on the credit check, however with the black card you have a min 15K limit enforced upon you Versus 6K for the platinum. I'd say that will weigh far more heavily in any assessment on any extra credit applications.

If a Westpac customer you get 90K points for $200 fees on the black and 70K for $100 fees on the platinum. Therefore, you are effectively paying $100 extra for a measly 20k points.

That, plus the extra min spend to get the bonus points, plus the 2.5 times larger min credit limit make the Black deal a poor option IMO.

          • @Poolprouk: You can always reduce your credit limit below the min once the account has been opened.

            • @expatOz: Not sure if you can but even if possible I still think the $100 extra fee for 20k bonus points is poor.

If I saw another CC with a $100 annual fee and a 20k bonus points offer I would not even give it the time of day.

              • +1

@Poolprouk: Yes you can, have done it myself multiple times and sometimes immediately after the account was opened.

But yes, I get your point just that there’re no good offers going around atm. I got 180k QFF with ANZ Black last year, nothing even remotely close. Same with Amex.

      Nice!

How to become Westpac customer to save on fee?

I looked at their website to open a new account. They are bundling westpac life account with westpac choice account. The fee is 5$ per month unless you qualify for the savings criteria.

      • I was wondering the same thing, ANZ had a free "growth saver" account that I could use to get the existing customer bonus there.

I'm wondering if Westpac has a similar no fee account to join.

        • Would like to know as well. Westpac has been quite strict in applying monthly fees and didn't waive any when I closed my dormant account(s).

        • Under 30 and over 55 and retired the fee is waived.

  • Going through an application ATM with Westpac. They can't seem to comprehend that Citi products are now labelled as NAB on credit reports ever since the takeover.

    From the Citi website

National Australia Bank Limited (ABN 12 004 044 937, AFSL and Australian Credit Licence 230686) ("NAB"), is the credit provider and issuer of Citi branded financial and credit products. NAB has acquired the business relating to these products from Citigroup Pty Ltd (ABN 88 004 325 080, AFSL and Australian Credit Licence 238098) ("Citi") and has appointed Citi to provide transitional services.

This means that NAB is your product provider and references to 'we', 'us', or 'our' in relation to Citi branded products and services are generally references to NAB unless the context requires otherwise.

  • How are people reaching the limit, I noticed with Mastercard the exceptions for getting the required points is crazy high

no bpay. no bills, no gift cards … etc

    • +6

Usually two trips to my local cafe for smashed avo and a latte, and I qualify for the spend in a week.

    • +2

BPay via Beem app and it should count towards the spend requirement.

      • Hi @the splingee,
I did BPay via the Beem app to my strata and met the minimum spend criteria last month. I have received normal points for this statement however no Bonus points in this statement. Is there a way to check whether a certain transaction was counted towards the minimum spend or not?

        • t&c says bpay not eligible.

          • +1

@haemolysis: Using Beemit to pay BPAY bills means it doesn't show up as a BPAY payment.

        • +1

Anything that earns normal points should count towards the minimum spend.

Bonus points may not appear for up to 12 weeks.

  • Can anyone who has had this card tell me how long is took for their bonus points to arrive please? I reached the spend about before the end of the first statement period. Just received my 2nd statement and still no bonus points

    • In my experience, very quickly actually. I would check that your spend is all elligible spend.

      • It's definitely all eligible and I've received the normal points, just not the bonus points. I contacted them and they said up to 12 weeks but I've never waited this long with any other card

        • +1

Have received it in 3rd or 4th statement once upon a time.

          • @[Deactivated]: Ah okay thanks. Hopefully it comes sooner rather than later as I wanted to use it for an upgrade and didn't think it would be this slow!

        • Same, still hasn't arrived after second statement - was always faster in the past.

Did you get them on the 3rd statement?

          • +1

@z0s0: I called them and there was an issue with their system blocking the bonus points. This was due to me having held a Westpac Qantas CC in the past but over 2years ago. Their system was incorrectly marking it as within the last 12months and therefore made me ineligible. This has apparently been fixed for me now and I should receive my points today apparently.

            • @yasminew9: 🙄 I was really hoping not to have to call these clowns. Thanks for the update

              • @z0s0: Just received my latest statement and the bonus points are showing on there finally
Not yet in my QF account but hoping today they are transferred

                • @yasminew9: Nice one. Had it been 12 weeks before you called them? I just spoke to them and they basically fobbed me off with "it hasn't been 12 weeks since you hit the spend requirement"

                  • +1

@z0s0: No it hadn't been 12 weeks. I called after the first statement and they told me 12 weeks. Then I called about a week after the second statement as I've been waiting on points to upgrade. That's when I found out about the issue with their system. That took a couple of calls to resolve as it had to go to a different teak to fix. I've literally just received my points in QF account, a day after third statement.
Make sure you call the Altitude Rewards team directly. They were really helpful

                    • @yasminew9: I am in a similar situation as you, I reached the minimum spend before the end of 2nd statement and just got my 3rd statement yesterday which still doesn't show any bonus points.

                      • +1

@X91: Have you held a Westpac Qantas card before? If so I'd give them a call to check you're not having the same issue I had

                        • @yasminew9: Yes, i had altitude rewards closed in Dec 2021. For some strange reason, Westpac's system was showing the closing date as Mar-2022 which would have made me ineligible for the bonus points due to 12-month criteria. I called up the Westpac Altitude team and provided my closure letter for the previous card which allowed them to Open a case with their team. The case just got resolved today and got my 90K points in my QFF account.

  • Has anyone used Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas Credit Card to pay ATO through BPAY via BEEM? Did it count towards the $4k minimum spend for the bonus points? It says in the terms and conditions it doesn’t include BPAY but I’ve done this on other cards and it shows up as “Beem it spend” on the account. So does the bank even know what the Beem it transaction was for?

    • +1

I have used Beemit many times for ATO payments and they have always counted toward the minimum spend.

    • I have used the Westpac Black card many times and earned Qantas FF points but cannot comment about the qualifying spend. I would think through that if it does the former it would also do the latter.

  • points awarded & paid only $150 annual fee as an existing Westpac account holder.

    • Same (no active accounts just active NetBank), I wonder if I can get it back by calling to cancel the card

  • What's the cheapest way to make a Qantas spend to activate the lounge passes? Booking a hotel with free cancellation? T&C excludes: "Qantas branded non-airfare products" so I assume hotels may not work? Then again the bank will just see a spend at Qantas.com

    • +1

Other option is to make a book a cheap flight more than 30 days in advance and then cancel it due to Qantas' QFF 24-hour cooling off period for free cancellation (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/678443)?

      • +1

I can confirm this method works

  • I called to cancel and got the card fee back as well

  • The new card design is quite nice!

  • How long have people been waiting for bonus points? I've just had our normal points credited for the last statement period, but no sign of the bonus points. Does it take more than 1 statement period for the bonus to be credited typically?

    • I called them once the 12 weeks was up and they manually credited the bonus points. Might have to do with the fact that I've had a Westpac card in the past.

      • Dam, was hoping to avoid that. So you got all the "regular" spend points but the bonus points didn't come through until you called them to manually credit?

        • Yup, I think a few others above had the same problem.
