Offer not available if you’ve held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 12 months.

    • If I held a NAB & ANZ Qantas Black card in the last year, but have never had Westpac will I still be elligible?

      • Yes

  • +3

They are really pushing up the spend limit in recent months. You used to get similar amount of points for a $3000 spend in 90 days.

    • +2

Inflation makes it easier. I wish I spent less than $6k in 90 days!

  • +4

    spits out coffee

Wait til next year when inflationary pressures should subside and these sign up bonuses and min spend hoohaa will go down

    • +2

you do realise prices don't come down they just stabilise somewhat, but still go up, just at a lower rate.

  • +2

If you sign up for a westpac choice (or you already have an account) you can at least get the annual fee for $150 + $50 qantas.

    • The real MVP
Also while I have you, St George has similar discounts you could update on your website, annoyingly they keep changing but still worth noting and makes deal far better value

    • Seems like Westpac do not have any kind of "free" account for most people? i.e. over 30 and not a pensioner/concession holder. Does anyone know if an old Westpac credit card internet banking login that still works will count as existing customer?

  • Only problem is minimum income requirement

  • +1

If it’s the same as St George they are absurdly conservative on the approval. Might be better to not clock up a wasted credit check.

Note that $6000 spending requirements exclude government bills and Australia Post
Was previously trying to pay my council rate and water bill via AusPost PayBill with paypal
and receive 0 points and not counted towards the $6000 spending

    • Has this loophole been closed? I thought this was going towards my spend. The auspost paypal receipt even has a the following statement on it.

“Collect credit card rewards? You'll earn applicable points with this transaction. This transaction will appear on your bill as "PAYPAL *AP"”

      • +1

Yes, all my "PAYPAL *AP" transactions earn no points
transactions were all done in Oct 2022

    • +1

Did you try paying the bill using Bpay on the Beem app?

      • The council rate that I paid for doesn’t support beem with credit card

As a side note, I put my Westpac credit card to beem and got account locked out as suspicious transactions (the $0 preauthorised transactions), need to go to Westpac branch in person to unlock

        • You beem it to the councils bpay details. Your council doesn't offer bpay?

    • Did this on the ANZ card…got nothing,

Ended up canceling this card. pointless in more than one way

Will wait for better deals next year. $6000 is just too much.

Lol I should have posted a deal instead of comment
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13132820/redir

  • How much is 90K QFF worth?

  • +1

    It's 6k spend, not 4k.

    • 6k within 120 days (so an extra month)

  • Having to move on from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681936 shortly

Is this deal the best in comparison at the moment?

  • What's the best way to get the Lounge passes?

    • Get a credit card with lounge passes.

  • I signed up for the similar but slightly cheaper deal (Altitude Qantas Platinum rewards)[https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/reward/altitude-qantas-platinum/] and managed to be eligible for the discounted fee of $49 first year rather than $149 thanks to a very old legacy Virgin Credit Card turned Westpac Ignite login into online banking…

… but I found the uploading documents process to be a bit unusual since it limits to 4 files and they suggest you provide quite a few different artefacts. There's no confirmation they've received it and when I click the link in the email/online banking portal it goes to the same welcome page asking to choose between uploading documents or giving them access to my (non-Westpac) internet banking. It's only been a few days but noone has contacted me since the day I applied online and submitted the documents (same day).

    • They will call you if they need more then they will send an email. You can provide other documents then.

      • Ah cool, thanks for that! I tried doing it twice and uploading the remaining documents needed but there's no real confirmation/acknowledgement that i've even uploaded anything at all so I guess I'll wait and see.

  • It's been a couple of weeks, lots of back and forth as the assessors realised they needed an extra document here and there… and if not for me calling to prod, who knows when they'd actually let me know they needed something else. Definitely the most frustrating of all my CC applications in terms of customer experience. It looked so promising with an online form (which didn't work for me since the residency flag on my account was missing since my Westpac online account originally started at another institution).

    • Quick question. Was it a $4000 spend for the Platinum card or $2000….to get the 70k in points?

      • I think it was $4k for 70,000 points, with a discounted annual fee of $49 (+ Qantas points fee).

        • +1

I am just cycling thru the banks, and $2000 stuck in my mind, maybe that’s just NAB.

  • is paying uni fees upfront count as eligible purchases?

    • Is the Uni considered a government body? You can check their T&Cs.

      • To clarify, I'm not paying it through HECS/HELP. I'm paying it like I'm an overseas student

  • Still trying to find out what’s happening with my application…

Was on hold for 40mins to speak to Westpac… staff member asked me to wait whilst he checked something and then I got sent to the automated customer satisfaction survey. Sigh.

Edit: he called me back. Phew.

    • After a couple more calls (and multiple 40min waits) I managed to get approved today. A very painful experience particularly given after each call I asked the staff member "are you sure there's nothing else you need from me?" and they always say they have all the documentation in order, etc… only to realise they don't, send me an sms/email asking me to call, and then back in the queue again.

At least Westpac has a digital credit card feature for instant use.
