    After getting scammed for $400 and spending hours on apple support to reclaim the lost credit, I would highly not recommend anyone doing this deal.

      I'm thinking same. Seems to be a fair bit of risk with purchasing physical cards currently - and potential time invested trying to recoup issues involved.

      100% agree. Until there's some material changes to these cards and/or the way they're sold (i.e. kept behind a counter) I believe this is not a deal, and not worth the pain/risk.

        Even being kept behind the counter didn't help with the Coles deal last week - the store I go to opens and checks them as you buy them and one of the five $200 failed on activation and looked like it had been tampered with, even though they kept them behind the counter.

        The staff mentioned that they had suspicions that other staff members were tampering with them because they still had this issue after moving them from the public retail area to behind the counter.

          My one had no signs of tampering, which is the craziest part. Until I got to the activation code and the font looked off.

      Sorry you got scammed, but I disagree.

      I said this on the other post while it was on going, adding it here as so many from those posts commented with issues:

      My advice to anyone reading this prior to your purchase is to:
      1. Always buy them at a counter in front of staff
      2. Make sure politely advise them of the situation
      3. Ask to open them prior to actually paying for the cards (the cards are worthless until the payment goes through and card activated)
      4. Double check the serial number on the inside matches the outside (again, prior to payment!)
      5. Serial numbers match? Cool, scan ER card and make payment.

      Optional, but in my opinion worth it:
      6. Add to Apple account immediately.

        The serial number inside matched the outside. It was just the activation code that had been modified.

        So that method doesn't work.

        I added to apple account immediately, and 2/5 of my cards didn't work.

      I got scammed out of 350$ on a variable load gift card from the Coles promotion last week. Coles washed their hands off and hand balled me over to Apple, still waiting on resolution. Were you able to get the credit back to your account? If they can't / don't what are my options ?

        I had this issue with coles last year, same day I spoke to the person who was flogging me off to the Apple, I requested for the supervisor and told him that I want to buy more and he must process the sale and I will open the card in front of him.

        I bought $100 and $200 card, upon opening there was a $50 and $ 100 card inside.
        He immediately acted on it, requested other cards to be removed and issued me refund of all purchases.

      You’re not wrong but for what it’s worth, I’ve studied this scam extensively and I’ve yet to see an example of a tampered Apple gift card that couldn’t have been identified by opening it up and checking it. This guide I made shows you how to do this for both versions of physical Apple gift cards.

      This is the only reason why I still feel comfortable buying these gift cards and recommending the offers on them.

      Whilst Apple support can help, contacting Woolworths Gift Cards customer care seems to be the most reliable method based on all the accounts I’ve seen. After you send them proof of your purchase and the tampering they should refund you in full.

        This is a good guide, but incomplete.

        The gift card I had, included all the numbers/letters. Even the apple store staff couldn't spot it until we looked extremely carefully and the Q's dash was not as obvious as the stock card, and the kerning was slightly off.

        I do agree, that peeling the activation code back is the only failsafe, and only if you're confident at spotting those differences. It feels like a fair bit of hassle for the equivalent of 10% discount.

    After spend weeks waiting for the available iphone unit to get delivered as I missed the preorder, I would highly not recommend anyone doing this deal if you missed the preorder.

    I guess with this type of promo where Woolies are offering points vs direct discount, we are unlikely to see a straight 10% off for Apple giftcards in the future.

    seems like a lot of people don't realise the new security measure. all mine worked.

    you have to give them to woolies employee, they rip open the package then scan. you know if it has been tampered with.
    now its harder to get scammed now since it isn't an exposed barcode like before. i got $2000 worth last time, zero issues. i will get another 2k worth and update you.

    I saw a man trying to open a pack before purchasing it in front of the cashier, and a staff member yelled at him for checking the card. He looked very embarrassed.

    It was clear that the staff had received no proper training. This issue is unlikely to be resolved unless there is a way to confirm that the card has not been tampered with before payment.

    So as I understood not to be scammed. Calling the staff before the purchase and asking them to check the number is matched before purchase the giftcard. And redeem the code right away there right? What if they check the number and they are matched but code is somehow tampered, so I can't redeem it in front of staff. Will they resolve the issue there like refund the money or they transfer me to the apple service?

      I wouldn’t recommend purchasing them. I followed the methods above and still ended up getting scammed.

      My giftcards looked fine until I went to scratch it and the last two to three digits were unreadable. Everything else looked fine prior to scratching.

      I am still dealing with both Woolworths and Apple at the moment.
