HP Pavilion Laptop 14inch/2.2/16GB/512GB/i5 1240P $1197 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

120

I’ve been looking for a cheap but OK 14inch laptop. Indecision will kill me.
I have no idea which laptop is better, this or Lenovo for a few dollars more. Maybe someone brighter than me can tell the difference … please.

If it were me making the decision, I'd go with the Lenovo. Never had a problem with any Lenovo product.

So you claim HP is inferior to Lenovo? Interesting. I thought HP was good but just generally expensive.

My claim is that I've had very good experiences with Lenovo. That's not an indictment on HP.

OK, thanks for confirming that the comment was based on any real information except your own love of Lenovo.

Battery on the lenovo looks better

  • Everything looks the same Except for Battery. Lenovo has bigger battery. Apart from that its brand choice I guess.

    • Thanks.
RAM has a different speed I just noticed, doubt if it would make any difference to me. And HP has fingerprint sensor, Lenovo doesn’t.

The HP was $815 on Xmas eve.

Mobilecity have it for $999, ask OW to price match if yoy go for the HP.

The USB C is not Alt Mode and only has the hdmi out so can only run the one monitor without a docking station if you want to connect more than the one external monitor.

Otherwise I have no complaints. There are reports the baterry on the HP is not that great compared to others in the same class.

    • You have one? The battery life is good?

What do you mean alt mode?

    • I don’t see it on mobileciti, do you have a link?

      • Ignore what I said, didn't notice mobilecity is out of stock.

    • "The HP was $815 o"

It was:-) At that price it was a no-brainer and I'm well pleased with mine, but the 2x thunderbolt 4 ports and the DDR5 for $2 extra would tip it for me. The fingerprint reader is handy, but if you're into gardening or manual labour then a bit of rough skin can nobble it - it may pay to enrol more than one finger if that's that thing that swings it.

I did note in the Yoga comment some quibbles about the keyboard. With the similar "Miix" models it was down to the lightness of the unit. The HP weighs 1.33 Kg which isn't too bad, the Lenovo may be a bit lighter.

      • I wish I saw it when it was $815 …. I must have been too into Xmas celebrations.

      • Thunderbolt 4 means? Does it mean certain external screens can connect where you can’t with the HP?

        • You can, but you don't get the full [2X USB C] speed for data transfer and it doesn't support external PCIe devices.

          • @terrys: Sorry, your link didn’t work. Want to post it again?

  • Yes i have the HP. Haven't tested the battery life, it's always plugged in to an external monitor and powered on. I only use it for WFH.

You can't connect an external monitor via the usb c ports as they don't transfer video (alternate mode). The Lenovo has better specs including 2x Thunderbolt™ 4 / USB4® 40Gbps (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort™ 1.4).

    • Thanks for this, good info. Seems Lenovo is the way to go. (Still wondering if I should look for a touch screen 2in1 style but I have an iPad so I guess no need really)

    • I have.

  • I’m an HP fan. I have owned an ENVY series laptop. I found having soundbar facing myself very important. The sound bar of this seems to be at the back?

    Seems like a great deal
