  • Silly question but can these run off the gooloo 24V, 100W battery packs?

    https://gooloo.com.au/products/gt-3000?variant=4466205291339…

The power consumption is not specified anywhere and neither are the amps. I'm trying to figure out, how long it can run for with an independent battery source in case I cannot hook it onto the car battery.

    • Its a small compressor fridge, so I'd say probably around 2 amp per hr to maintain 4 degree.
So its about 4 hrs using a 100W battery pack.

    • The same fridge on eBay has a rating of 250Wh per 24 hours.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322097446512

So it would run for up to 8 hours on the 84.36 Wh gooloo battery.

That is optimistic, and assuming pre chilling, and likely not opening it. But 5 hours might be reasonable for normal use if pre chilled.

      • Fwiw similar Alpicool / Brass Monkey ones run for approx eight hours at 25c on their 15.6 Ah 12v lithium battery.

    • The Gooloo has usb C 12V out max and a dedicated 15V output, can't see 24V out?

  • That's a good price! Portable fridges are normally so expensive!

  • Anyone know what the warranty is?

  • +3

Do I need it? ummm, maybe, not 100% confirmed. Have I bought it, absolutely!

    • +2

I would think twice about it unless you 100% need it, OzBargbain sayings aside. This is a pretty bulky item to be 'maybe' about

      • Instructions unclear. Bought one. Now time to find a place to stash it.

      • +1

It's gonna go in the partner's SUV, we do a lot of day hiking trips with the dog. This will come in handy.

        • +1

Then it looks like you really did need it after all lol.

  • Would this fridge work if put on its side, as shown here https://www.mitre10.com.au/media/catalog/product/6/5/6512883… ? I need one for transporting cakes etc.

    • +2

As it has a compressor, highly unlikely.

    • +3

      100% will wreck it

    • Thank you all.

    • +2

Its intended to be used upside down on the oposite side of earth so sideways should be fine

    • +1

      How big are your cakes?
Look up drawer or upright 12V fridges.

You could probably adapt a drawer fridge and remove the internal drawer tray and slides to create more room inside. Then just close the front panel as there is usually a latch at the top.

Then fashion up a steel strap to screw onto the side holes and put a cambuckle strap on this. Now you can securely hold the front panel closed during transport.

Example fridge with a video attached: https://www.snowys.com.au/sb30f-drawer-fridge-30-litre

      • Cake size depends on the number of guests :). I'm not a pro, cakes are for our own outdoor parties. Thanks for the tips!

  • +1

This is an incredible bargain. I'd buy one if I was allowed!

    • +1

Exactly! Buying it and hiding it in the garage is one thing but getting it approved by as a reasonable purchase by the house-commander is entirely differient

  • Planning to use it as a chest freezer in a small studio, does anyone know if it will be quiet enough? Thanks

    • +3

I have a similar Rovin model (55L) and have used it on a houseboat that is effectively a small studio apartment. It's not exactly quite, but didn't cause me any issues with not being able to sleep. It's a bit louder than the 5 year old Samsung inverter fridge on the boat.

  • Poor man's Engel?

  • Needed one…… No. Bought one anyway….. Yes

    • Same. Just picked mine up. Shame the other buyers from nsw got a refund instead.

      • Threw it in the back of the cruiser and it's been working a treat. Kids love getting out their cold waters on our drives

  • Looks to be pretty much sold out, at least in QLD.

    • Goulburn and ulladala in nsw. And some parts of ACT. Have some left.

  • Home Hardware are also price matching this online.
    https://www.homehardware.com.au/rovin-portable-fridge-50l-dc…

  • I have a bunch of EGO tools and batteries.. was wondering if its possible to power this fridge with this Ego Nexus Power Inverter which uses my Ego tool batteries?

    https://www.tradetools.com/ego-56v-nexus-escape-150-watt-pow…

Will it run natively? or do I need some sort of adaptor?

  • also brought for probably the small handful of times i will use it, im thinking high chance no stock email to follow

    • Yeah same. I received the initial email from purchase. Went with pick up from nearest mitre10 but no further email received or sms to confirm i can pick up.

      • Have you heard anything? We still haven’t heard anything either and they are just down the road. Will get hubby to call them today.

      • Just called the local mitre 10 and apparently they’re waiting for the shipment to arrive. Should be at the store next Tuesday after 2pm.

        • Thanks. I await the inevitable sms/email that my portable fridge is ready for pick.

  • Hurry Up! 2327 people looked at this product today. - No obvious realistic tie down points.

  • Just purchased one. Thanks OP :)

Looked at Alpicool website and found CX50. Looks the same. A couple of youtube reviews if you look for CX50 fridge.

  • Anyone got email confirmation on pickup?

  • Got refunded today ☹️

    • Guess im getting the same treatment.

No email yet though. Or refund in PayPal

    • Thats weird, it's still buyable from the link

      • +1

Cant order it in checkout though - nsw anyway

        • Theres very few places that have stock.

        • Seems OK in Vic, without actually fully checking out

    • Same here in NSW :(

    • That sucks. I just picked mine up this morning though it was ready for pickup at pendle hill nsw last friday.

  • was told by my store (Vic) that they placed an order with supplier and if everything goes well, I will have it on Friday evening

    • Got confirmation to pick up the item today

  • back to full price..

  • +1

Picked it up today. Overall seems like decent quality, the design is a little odd without access to the whole top of the compartment as the compressor blocks the right side around 30%. The fan is a little noisy and there seems to be a rattling cable, does anyone else hear this?

Confirming it comes with both 240v and 12v cables and has a USB output port.

    • Did you have any luck getting the app going? On android, it just says that the app is unavailable as it was made for an older version of android. Tried the brass monkey one but same thing

  • Confirmation mine was ready to pick up today as well, luckily was able to grab it before heading into work.

    • Im jelly. Still no email or call one way or the other if I can pick up my portable fridge. From sydney here though.

      • Seems rough in NSW with others getting refunded already and pretty sure someone was saying ordering for NSW was blocked as well.

My fingers are crossed for you though ;)

        • Yup finally managed to pick it up this morning though it was ready for pick up last friday.

          • @xoom: Congrats, I hope you enjoy. Mines already getting a work out as a stand in freezer for a while and no real complaints.

      • Sydney here and just got my confirmation to come get it

        • I just got my email to come pick it up. Will do after work.

  • just got my email, ready for pickup (VIC)

  • At 10am today, about 10 orders were ready for pickup at the Malaga WA store.

You spotted the Ozbargainers in the wild.

      • +1

Now I need to figure out how to power it off grid. Hopefully we get deals on Lithium LiFePO4 batteries soonish. How are you guys setting it up?

        • +1

Dont be like this guy though.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/382306

        • +1 Also trying to get this thing working as an off grid backup. See LoungeLizards comment on page 1 about the Companion Rover 40Ah which looks ideal.

Significantly more expensive than the fridge but it can power a range of other devices so I guess we could justify if the price is right!

  • Picked mine up today. Seems good, started it up for 5 mins and worked. Clifton hill VIC store

  • Has anyone managed to download the app and install the fridge? The Rovin app is too old for my S23. I tried the Alpicool app instead but still no luck.

    • Paired successfully - just need to allow 'Location'.

    • i have the same issue - let me know if you have any success with alternative apps. they really should update it for the current os if they're still selling them

    • @Prav hey mate I got it going this afternoon using this app (on the 30L one) - is this the apicool one that also didn't work for you?
      https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alpicoolne…

      • @JudgeRizzo - yes the Alpicool app worked.

        • Nice!

        • I installed the rovin fridge app from play store. Open bluetooth and location. Up came some prompts and now im connected to it.

You need bluetooth and location on to connect to the fridge.

    • Weird you cant install it in s23 when my s22 ultra got it installed fine.

Tried the alpicool app. It installed but for some reason it can't locate the rovin fridge whereas the rovin app connected as long as I open bluetooth and location.

  • Just called the nearest mitre 10 and they said they are expecting stock to arrive tommorow afternoon.

I guess if they call / message / email me early enough i may just head down to pick it up.

    • what state are you in?

friend of mine who ordered earlier than me also got his order canceled - NSW

      • Pendle Hill NSW. I guess gonna find out tomorrow if i do get it. Posting again tomorrow.

      • Thats rough. I got mine. Just picked it up this morning. Pendle hill nsw.

  • It was a bit of a nervous wait after placing an order on 23rd February, however the Mitre 10 in Canberra called to confirm it was ready for collection yesterday.
It's tall and quite spacious inside, and easily was able to fit the maiden case of Asahi cans I put into it first.

  • 3806 area, no updates from local store. Guess need to wait for another couple of weeks.

    • Took an extra week here in sydney but got notified yesterday for pick up. Couldn't pick it up as i was working and they were only open half day. And weekends they are closed. So picking up early monday before i head off to work.

Fingers crossed your gets ready for pick up. Some in sydney were refunded due to no stock.

    • I havent but theres no reason it wouldnt work, fridge plug looks correct. As long as it gets the right voltage it shouldnt matter whats on the other end.
