A plus vote from myself for bringing it to attention.
A very happy mx key user.. It's very nice. ( work purposes)
The HP keyboard does look remarkably similar, probably from the same factory.

    • The HP keyboard does look remarkably similar, probably from the same factory.

It might look the same but you won't get the Logitech software to add extra features.

      • +1

I have mx keys and the mouse but never got around to actually installing the software feel like wasted potential haha

        • Lol.. Same here.
          I didn't install anything.

Not a power user or anything, just usual office and Web browsing.

I had a quick look earlier, yes, the additional functionality via the logitech software does sound good. Being able to fire up Teams with app specific buttons sounds good.

      • +6

No Logitech software might be a positive.

      • +1

        Options is GOOD

        • +1

          Options+ is better - lol.

        • +2

Logitech gives you the option to use the software or not.

This just doesn't have the software.

So the HP gives you less options.

    • +1

They look very similar but there are plenty of differences: the Logitech has a bar on top, the underside is different, and on the HP the space bar is exactly the length of 6 letters keys while the Logitech is slightly longer.

Probably not made in the same factory.

  • Does it feel like MX keys?

    • -3

Looks exactly the same, probably manufactured by Logitech for HP.

  • +4

The reviewer from the video made me mad with his wishy-washy 0 content paid advertisement.

  • +2

I think it's a stretch to say it's a clone just from looking at it. Might look the same, but does it work the same?

  • Wonder if it shares the same auto-backlight issues the MX Keys has…

    • yes it does: https://youtu.be/9e8oH_7XIPE?t=70

oh wait, i read that as auto backlight rather than the issues :)

I wonder if the mx keys uses that "bar' at the top of the keyboard to sense when hands are close vs the 975 where there is a sensor below the keyboard keys themselves?

  • Good find. Can’t believe RRP is $161 😳(https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/hp-975-dual-mode-wireless-keyb…)

Note that Shipping is $8.95 to Sydney after you apply the code.

Thanks OP - plan to claim this back from work, they said MX Keys at $149 "didn't pass the pub test…" Which I found odd, as I didn't plan on taking it to the pub.

    Hope it isn't junk.

    • +1

Fingers crossed it isn't junk too. Bought to replace my Dad's Logitech MK220 keyboard which will be junked.

I am very happy with my HP Dual mode keyboard, but it's looks like it's one model up from the one in this deal.
I got this one when it was reduced to $89 and used the -$10 perks coupon. (I've seen it go on sale again twice since then)
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-envy-dual-mode-wireles…

It feels very premium. High quality chicklet switches too you can push on any part of the key and it will drop evenly and register every time.
The only real problem with it is the angle is not adjustable and has no extending legs, but that can be solved pretty easily with some DIY adhesive product from bunnings.

Also has Caps Lock indicator light on the key which is very handy and using 2.4ghz connection you get extremely long battery life from the AAA's between battery changes (hmm the one in this deal has a non removable built-in battery, not sure about that one).

    • That looks like a great keyboard.. And definitely a fan of the removable AAA batteries..
I was gifted the mx keys, so couldn't exactly be ungrateful.. Lol..
I'll admit that I'm also not the biggest fan of the inbuilt battery.. We shall see how it goes in the future.

Yeah that's one of the reasons I couldn't splurge for the MX keys. Pretty sure if you are experienced enough you can source and replace the built-in battery, but obviously it won't be as easy as swapping 2x AAA's. One more thing the MX keys has that the HP Dual mode doesn't is light up keys.
At least you got it as a gift, so I am sure you are getting plenty of value out of it.

    • that envy keyboard looks great, do you find the phone/tablet holder slot useful?

      • do you find the phone/tablet holder slot useful?

No. I don't use it. In fact a lot of negative reviews for the keyboard I have are because the user tried to use it for a tablet with Bluetooth. I know it has that holder there so some people might think it's for "tablets" but honestly you should buy and use it as a PC keyboard and nothing else.

The "Dual Mode" in the keyboard name actually refers to the 2.4Ghz and Bluetooth connections. I only use the 2.4Ghz with the included USB receiver, you get a much better user experience and longer battery life.

Bluetooth connection has it's own problems which you can't get around. The problems with Bluetooth are mainly, auto sleep mode (the keyboard goes to sleep after 30 secs to 1 minute of inactivity, and takes a few seconds to wake up when you start typing), more signal delay (there is a bigger delay from when you type to when it has any effect, but 2.4Ghz delay is imperceptible so as good as wired) and much worse battery life (the AAA batteries you use will run out quicker, as you can tell Bluetooth uses more energy so it has to rely on "auto sleep" to save power).
The experience with 2.4Ghz and USB reciever is as good as a wired experience. No delay in typing, no delay when you havent used the keyboard for awhile and start typing, and 1 to 1.5+ year battery life.

    No stock for sydney :(

Better mouse model and price on Amazon

  • Same price at BPC

    • $19 shipping at BPC, online has sold put

  • CPL has HP 935 mouse at $38, but shipping is quite expensive to Sydney (can pick up in Melb).

    • Ordered this, got cancelled. Now $89 on the CPL website.

  • Logitech still leads in connectivity, it supports 3 devices in either Radio or Bluetooth.

I wonder if they use 3 radio and 3 Bluetooth transmitters, or only 1 or each with some clever memory toggle.

    oos online

This looks like this - https://amzn.asia/d/1I3i1m1

  • What's the keys like?

Aren't MX Keys all mechanical? which this one doesn't look like?

Would it feel anything like a mechanical KB?

  • No stock but I preordered. Thanks, OP.

  • Looking for a compact wireless mechanical KB.

Any comment on this KB? https://www.amazon.com.au/Mechanical-Wireless-Bluetooth-Comp…

edit… I even found one at Kmart! https://www.kmart.com.au/product/wireless-mechanical-gaming-… doesn't have bluetooth though… wonder what the keys are like

    Non-replaceable battery? No thanks.

  • can someone who collects it soon drop their review about the keyboard here?
    Thanks

    • +5

I collected the keyboard this afternoon. On the scale, my MX keys is 797 grams. This HP is 650 grams.

Quick comparison of the two, i'd say the Logitech feels a little more sturdy. Tapping on front and back frame of HP keyboard, it feels of high quality plastic. The key feel is very similar between the two. I'd say the Logitech feels a touch nicer.

Software functionality wise, they're almost identical. MX keys has Options+. HP has HP Accessory Centre (from Microsoft store). Both allow you to customise hotkeys, set hotkeys for specific apps, set backlight preferences, update firmware, etc,.

Mine was delivered this evening and I am typing on it. I don't own a MX keys (wanted one) so pulled trigger on this one given it is half the price of Logitech one. Quality wise it feels good in the hands, typing experience has been pretty good as well.

I will not be using any software that could boost the experience using this keyboard due to work machine restrictions but I can still leverage some handy keys like screenshot, mute, calculator, etc. which is nice.

At this price I'd say it is definitely worth the money.

      • I was having buyer's remorse until I saw both of your comments… Hopefully it is as good as what you described!

  • Seems the code is not working now :( Was trying to buy one. Found the other one for $59 also in BPCTech https://www.bpctech.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/87299/?gc… However the shipping fee is $19.95 which is much higher. Probably not going to buy it.

  • Bought one this morning while they were showing as on backorder but it's apparently just been dispatched.

    • Mine is also dispatched with ETA next Monday. Currently at Melb airport where it will be sitting in the warehouse for the next 2-3 days - don't suppose Aus Post will bump it up a flight or two :).

  • anyone has managed to pair the keyboard and the mouse to use the single dongle? thanks

    • Like the Logitech Unifying dongle? I don't think it says it can do that.

What it says is "Connect up to 3 devices — two via Bluetooth® and one via 2.4 GHz USB-A dongle, and switch between devices using one button"

Which means you can connect the keyboard to 3 devices. e.g. PC, tablet and phone and switch between them with the button.

It doesn't say you can pair both HP keyboard and HP mouse to the USB receiver and use them at the same time.

    • Just got the keyboard and mouse this evening and will be trying to link it later. However the youtube review at 4.14min seems to suggest it can be done through the HP Accessory Centre app which configures the various devices.

      • Let me how it goes. Which youtube review are you referring to?
I followed this guide but it's not working. https://support.hp.com/za-en/product/hp-975-dual-mode-wirele…

        • +1

Which youtube review are you referring to?

I think the youtube video review OP linked in the post.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: right. unfortunately no luck so far. I've raised a ticket to HP - let's see what they say.

            • @yayo321: Hmm maybe it's only specific HP keyboards and mouses. That's just my guess and they forgot to put those details.

        • An update as promised …

No luck pairing the keyboard and mouse with the same dongle after spending all night researching and trying to solve the problem. I also found the same instructions that you linked but found it disappointingly deficient, frustratingly light on detail and conflicting.
For example it claims compatibility with the "935 Creator Mouse, the 635 multi-device mouse or other supported mouse", but I could not find a list of supported mouse when I went looking.

Based on the above one would deduce that since the 635 and 435 are both multi-device mice, the 435 is likely to be a supported mouse, particularly when the HP Accessory Centre software also recognizes the 435 along with a very small group of other configurable mice that includes the 635 and 935. Sadly I cannot find any evidence to confirm whether 435 is or is not a supported mouse so far.

In addition, the instruction states that the button which switches the mouse between dongle and Bluetooth on the 935 is the pairing button, with a description of the LED flashing sequence to show whether it is paired or pairing. This button appears to be marked the same way on the 435 (and 635) with a similar pairing description, however I can't get it to reproduce any of the LED flashing sequences described.

You may also be interested to note that the instruction you shared is missing now. However the instruction is still available here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07905723.pdf. I also found instructions on how to pair the 635 mouse http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07030673.pdf but unfortunately the corresponding instruction for the 935 appears to be missing. This instruction seems to be referring to a 935 mouse http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07993982.pdf.

One other thing before I close for now, the keyboard dongle is the only one that can be used to connect both keyboard and mouse; the mouse dongle is not used and can be permanently stored inside the mouse. If you look closely at the keyboard dongle there are icons for both mouse and keyboard.

I'll try to pair them again later on but in the meantime I would be most interested to hear HP's response to your ticket.

          Cheers.

          • @Rincewind71: Cheers for the updates.
No updates from HP yet, they have escalated to the specialists.
Yes, i was using the keyboard dongle to connect both devices.
Will keep you updated when I get an update from them

Just got my keyboard. While there are similarities with MX, typing on this feels less satisfying. Keys feel stiff and hard to press. Keys are huge though so good for those with large hands.
This definitely feels like a $59 keyboard and nothing like the RRP.
