    Any reviews on this?

    • Would seem to be a very niche product.

      • I like the idea of it.. i think. My gut says it's absolute garbage though, so i need reviews

        • +2

          Seems great so far.

The speakers on it are garbage, and appear to add quite an amount of thickness to the bottom section of the screen unfortunately.

My s23 ultra and my dell xps laptop both power the display, s23 doesnt seem to detect the toych screen though which is disappointing.

Screen brightness seems awesome, but ive only tested it in the night so far.

For a 15.6" screen, it seems pretty light (though this is my first portable screen, so dont have a benchmark for comparison)

The pleather cover doubles as kickstand which has been sturdy enough on hard flat surfaces, but i can imagine a half hearted bump could knock the kick stand off balance.

For me personally as a "nomad" consultant who functions majority out of his backpack/working at client sites, I'm confident right now this will be a great investment for me.

@davery22: Not sure what i did, but suddenlyn touch screen is working in Samsung dex now

    • Has anyone purchased it and could kindly share their feedback and experiences with us?

another cheap monitor seems to have many negative reviews: https://www.bigw.com.au/product/aiwa-24-edgeless-full-hd-ips…

      • the complaints were about the monitor not having speakers. Is that a standard expectation now?

        • I hope not, because the speakers on this akai one are trash

      • See my response above for my 2 cents

    • Has anyone purchased and shared their feedback or experiences with Android budget phones (non-Samsung), such as Optus X Mas, Optus Xpro 5G, Optus Moto E32, and Optus Oppo phones? Is it possible to install Samsung DeX or a similar app on these budget phones to enable touchscreen functionality? Additionally, which app would be the best choice to optimize touchscreen performance for budget phones?

      • No samsung dex is only supported on Samsung devicess

    @Clear ? 😂🤣

If you need a touchscreen for a POS system or similar this seems like a quite good option

    • +21

Hmm, my computer system's a POS.

      • +9

I don't often one up people, but I will here. I'M a POS

        • +1

Someone once said I was a real POS.

Is AKAI back, or did it never leave?

    • +3

Went bankrupt in 2000. Trademark was bought by a company in HK that make all kinds of cheap shit. But man, the brand name brings back memories!

      • +6

Yeah they used to be stocked at my local Brashs store.

        • +1

Brashs another blast from the past.

      • I know Akai as a music gear company and they still make

  • Does anyone know if this is usb powered? Seems it would make an ideal portable monitor if so

Thank you, probably should have read before commenting hey

        • +4

          Maybe

        • Nah it's good for YouTube algorithm

      • Does this mean I cna use it with a phone?

    • It is a portable monitor? I don't think I've ever seen one of these with ac/dc power.

Literally say on the page it's usb c powered

  • Isn’t this code targeted to Extra Rewards members?
    EDIT: NVM $98.10 with code

can I turn an iphone into a imac?

    • +2

Unfortunately not, but certain android phones can be converted to a chromebook with one of these.

      • How do you work out which ones?

        • +1

          Check Samsung DEX

          • @whyisave: Yeah I know about Dex but I don't have any Samsung phones, only other brands. Dex isn't exactly a chrome book anyway, it's still its own thing

  • +2

    no brightness in specs. suspicious

  • How's the brightness/colour? Does anyone have this?

    • Ive just gotten mine home and connected up. No issue with brightness right now, but it is dark.

I'll give it a go in daylight tomorrow and see how it fairs

  • +1

Apart from the obvious, uSe iT aS A DiSpLaY - what are people buying these for? Productivity? Gaming? Why buy this over a non-portable screen?

    • +2

portability..weight for those working on the go? poor man's espresso display

    • I'm thinking about using it for some laptops and a phone with smashed screens.

    • +1

Would make a great Samsung DEX display

      • Can confirm s23 ultra powers it and dex is happy…. though i havent gotten my phone to detect the touch screen as yet….. not sure its even supported in dex world though tbh

        • Not sure what i did, but suddenlyn touch screen is working in Samsung dex now

    • great for setting up headless Raspberry Pi projects. A light PC for scrolling ozB without a mouse. As a
      home assistant/NAS dashboard display. Dakboards

  • what is the code for? says you need to log in. it's the same price?

    • +1

The coupon code is to take 10% off the listed price on BIG W's website. I just updated the deal description to outline what you need to do to use the coupon code.

  • Would these be any good for flights just to link up to your smart phone? Or am I better off going with a tablet.

    • Go for the tablet. Itll be a lot cleaner than having a mess of cables for the battery and the phone

      • Tablets at this size would be a lot more expensive though.

    • -1

Don’t think your phone can power this on. Power banks are already banned or will soon be banned for use on airplanes.

      • My s23 ultra powers it and samsung dex works….. touch screen isnt detected/working as far as i have tested yet though.

        • Not sure what i did, but suddenlyn touch screen is working in Samsung dex now

    Is 1080p still "full HD"

    • +2

HD is 720p. 1080p is "full HD".
Yeah there are higher resolution standards than 1080p e.g 4k is 2160p however 1080p is synonymous with "full HD".

      • So 4k is more than full HD?

        Fuller HD.

        • So 8k is fullest HD?

          • @xoom: 16k can be "Most Fullerest HD". 😂

        • +1

Haha! It'd make more sense for sure at the moment. They probably shouldn't name things that are comparatives or superlatives as they date poorly!

  • 1.5kg?

    • 1.1KG including the pleather cover according to the manual

    • 800g screen +300g cover =1.1 KG

  • Might be able to use this as a Garmin G1000 display in my sim cockpit and replace my steam gauges.

  • Hi. Has anyone bought one and can confirm if it has VESA mounting holes and anything in manual about brightness. Thx

    • No vesa mounting holes.

Brightness is pretty bloody awesome from my testing so far but it is night time. I'll check it theres any lumen specs in the manual shortly

      • No brightness in the specs unfortunately

  • I just got it home but I can’t connect to macbook or ipad. It just says No Signal

    • Are you connecting the "usb-c" usb-c port, or the usb-c 5v 3a port?

Connecting the "usb-c" port to a usb-c port on my dell xps powers it and sends the hdmi signal across too.

      • I connected usb-c from a Lenovo laptop to the middle usb-c port on this one but still no luck

        • Maybe try press and hold power button on the left hand side.

Might be worth also checking the usb-c port on the device provides enough power (some laptops also need to be set to output power in BIOS settings)

          • @davery22: It needed to be on just the USB-C (not USB-C with power) to work (windows and mac worked)

Still cant get it to work with an ipad.

  • For those interested. I've tested my s23 ultra. It powers the screen and runs samsung dex. Though my phone doesnt seem to pick up the touch screen which was disappointing.

    • Not sure what i did, but suddenlyn touch screen is working in Samsung dex now

  • +2

Got one of these, pretty happy it comes with a 3-year warranty and this was what made me pull the trigger. Tested so far on my laptop and s23Ultra, DEX kicked in and touch worked straight away (connected and powered from my s23Ultra). So far I'm impressed for the price !

  • +1

So far, it's working as a trackpad for my Motorola mobile and the PC. Nothing displaying on the screen (just blackness).
