absolute rip off. unless you set some special value to the wood or the aesthetic sense of the set, but from a knife perspective, i'd never buy that. it's literally just stainless steel, no special type of compound metal used at all, no real special techniques used in the construction of the knives.

check out damascus knives and knives with special harder cores surrounding by softer metals. 100x prettier, cut better, retain edge for longer, etc.

  • Is this any good?

  • Good enough. Used my denka on it for fun before actually sharpening it. Works good enough.

  • No more cheap ones left…

  • Bought one yesterday and got delivered today. Used a blunt knife to sharpen, it actually works but the amount of material it took off was shocking. One day I might just be holding my knife without blade 😂

  • Got mine.

As noted it takes a lot of steel from your knife, so I wouldn't really use it on my expensive knives.

Having said that my regular knives are now pretty sharp.

My regular knives are Kiwi which I throw in the dishwasher because it's cheap.

This sharpener will wear out the blade as its is very soft but are cheap enough not to worry about damaging or replacing.

Whetstone takes metal off too, but you don't see how much, its spreaded all over.

Good point, I have a whetstone, but I'm sure it doesn't take anywhere near the same amount

How are you sure? If you have jewellery scales, i’d love to see numbers lol

          • @nuker: I should have taken a photo of the metal fragments.

Some of them where quite large and would be able to cut your skin if you rubbed it between your fingertips.

@JimB: Yea, I saw the same, but still, we cannot determine it whetstone takes less material for same level of sharpening. Visual vs non-visual is not a criteria here.

        • Correct, anyone who has used both knows they're not in the same order of magnitude

Ok, so bought a couple and tested yesterday (on a couple of Victorinox and Mundial knives).

Verdict: The best part is the suction. As far as the sharpening goes, its pretty crap; any moderate force and it will take chunks off the edge that you will need to stone and hone off properly. Waste of money.
