  • What's the original price?

    • $8-9 on eBay.

$9.97 at Bunnings. Bought one myself just a few weeks ago.

      • Cheers mate

worth having in the kitchen, hanging up inside a cabinet

    • is it easy to pull out? im paranoid that it requires some force and just rip anchors or small screws out

      • +6

Probably the least of your worries if you do need to use it

      • +4

It's super easy. I did a test run on mine after having the same thought

        • +1

By test run do you mean setting yourself on fire 🔥 running around the kitchen screaming, blinded by the heat and flames, and forgetting which cupboard you put the said blanket in? I’m looking for authentic test results…

A tug downwards and it’s out and semi unfolded. Then drag it over the fire and it’s out in seconds. House saved.

Can I wear it to a cocktail party?

I think it's about time I get one of these and an extinguisher now that I'm starting to practice my Flambé skills. Thanks OP.

handy if charging e-scooter in bedroom of share-house

    • +1

Do not use an extinguisher on a frying pan fire

      • Really? Did not know that. Does it make it worse because of oil or something?

        • +4

I suspect it's because it is likely to just fwoosh the burning contents out of a pan and spread the fire further.

      • Water definitely but I believe you can use CO2 or dry powder. Probably best to use blanket or CO2 though to avoid powdering up the whole kitchen.

    • That's what I did after my gf had a dream where she smelled smoke. As I was wandering around doing a check just in case I was thinking if it was real I would have to ruin a nice wool blanket to put it out. Now there's an extinguisher under the sink and a fire blanket in the pantry

Funny how it’s always the man’s job to go look for the fire, intruder, wild animal, strange noise, water leak, or any other manner of threatening things. I get the same.

        • +2

Or maybe you just notice it when things line up with your biases (as studies suggest we all do). My husband calls me to deal with noises, leaks, or animals. I call him to deal with delivery drivers!

@BlameEd: Yeah bit of a silly comment, I wrote it after a couple of drinks. 😅

      • fun fact… When you are sleeping you lose your sense of smell. That's why you need to have working smoke alarms in your house.

i love to grind these things into dust and inhale it

The thumbnail made me think this was some type of fire blanket costume

    • every time is see this item posted here, I look for the comment similar to this one xD

    • Good for keeping those flames of passion in check. 🤣

  • This is no brainer for anyone to have in the kitchen

  • +4

I like my fires to be distinguished

  • is this for extinguishing a fire or for protection against one?

    • Extinguishing, not for protection as this is small

    • Both, you put it over the fire, as fire needs 3 things to burn and you're reducing the oxygen it gets.

  • -4

    is it good for sleeping

  • I have been looking for something that would distinguish my fires.

  • Saw pairs of these selling for $25 at the auction house recently. Who knew they had a resale market.

  • +2

I had one of these hanging near my cooktop for years. Only a few days ago I had to use it after my daughter left a frypan on with fat in it, which eventually ignited. Only became aware when the smoke alarm went off.
Looks like this deal came up at just the right time!

Thanks OP, been recommending everyone to get one since we got caught in a fire of the unit 1 floor below.

  • Fire blankets are a good idea.

Is this truly a very distinguished fire blanket?

  • What about lithium battery fires?

  • Saw some MEDiMATE fire blanket at Coles (Rowville VIC) for $6.99
