Same price for a Galax model if anyone would prefer

    • +8

Yep there's a Umart deal they're matching. I figured it's worth pushing another brand down to a lower price for some variety.

No idea why you got downvoted, have an upvote.

        • Yeah pretty ridiculous. I could have posted for $1499 + shipping but I pushed it down further with the rep ;)

  • $1000 and I'll bite. Maybe a bit more for a better model like this one over the ventus….so $1100. Getting there, maybe an ebay sale will do it (with gift cards)

Wake me when the 4080 is ~$1300

  • +3

Waiting to see how the 4060 affects prices.

  • +2

Still waiting for the 3060ti to breach $500 for us budget gamers :(

    • Marketplace.. plenty of them under $500 with warranty

I want one of those white Colorful 3060/ti mini's cheap for an ITX build in the Slath Mini

    • i just got one for $380, buy used bro.

  • +10

$300 off the listed price of this more expensive 4070 Ti model in less than 1 month, shows how desperate they are to start moving these.

I view $1100 to $900 as the price range the 4070 Ti should have realistically fallen into based on how the 3070 was extremely well received at an MSRP of $809 back in 2020 (though only a handful of people got it at launch) prior to record inflation & taking into account the 4070 Ti beating 3090 (non Ti) performance. People hodling for $700 or below are somewhat optimistic in my opinion (or maybe pessimistic in hoping for a truly horrific recession in which case cheap GPU prices probably won't be much of a silver lining)

    • It's not unrealistic. 4070ti=5060=6050. It will be $400 in 4 years even at nvidias current prices.

      • +2

To clarify I am directing this at people saying that it should be sub $700 within 1 year of launch or even more ridiculously at launch price. Of course when the card is end of life all bets are off depending on what next gen is like etc.

      • +2

I think nvidia's pricing strategy has changed into this 3080=4070ti=5060=6050=$1300

      • -1

Nah they'll make the 6050 cost 600 bucks by then.

        • Probably lol. If it was me i'd wait for 5060 to drop to $450 like the 3060 non ti. 2 years $900 cheaper. High end gpu's are bad buys.

          A $1400 2080 super became a $650 3060ti in a matter of months. The 1080ti was like $1500 in late 2018. Now it's a $350 6600xt. Like 100% drop in value every year

          • +1

@JimmyNegger: Your numbers seem to be quite out of whack which throw off your calculations

The 2080 Super was released July 2019, there were deals on release for $1129 and it could be regularly had for $999 across multiple deals in early Nov 2019 (no where near $1400). You needed to wait over 1 year to get a $699 launch 3060 Ti in Dec 2020 so that is a reasonable amount of time (not just a few months). The 1080 Ti was regularly in deals for just under $900 from mid 2017 to late 2018 (well under the $1500 you quote)

Regarding the hypothetical 5060 you'd likely need to wait 2.5 years from now before something like a 5060 even comes out which is quite a wait and possibly much longer to hit the price target you are aiming for.

Of course if you have a GPU already that plays the games you like at settings that you're happy with it is worth waiting as long as possible before upgrading.

I think it's much more sensible to base upgrades on those factors (the games and settings you wish to play) and looking for the best value in recent times (with some knowledge of historic price/performance & market trends) rather than obsessing over specifically waiting x yrs to save $y for z performance level (which is incredibly speculative)

            • @AussieDeals: My numbers are being generous. If not for crypto you could shave off the last 2 years.

A $1400 2080 super became a $650 3060ti in a matter of months not years (and it's initial msrp was lower than $650). The 1080ti was like $1500 in late 2018 (and is now a $350 6600xt)". The 1080ti also became a 2070 super in a matter of mere months ($1500+ down to $850).

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/546967
              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555005

It's a flat price for a long period then it's value plummets (when the new gen is released). It's not a linear decline where you save $1 a day each extra day you hodl. So you don't need to hodl for years. 5 months before 3060ti launch people were paying $1200 for 2080s.

              • +3

@JimmyNegger: Your numbers are not generous in the slightest and your links show prices of $1160 on that deal rather than $1400 for the 2080 super which you initially stated (Ozbargain is all about attainable deal prices like those shown in the deals you linked, the people on here are not buying at MSRP)

The prices I quoted were clearly obtainable while your original comment (1080 Ti for $1500) is just a gross misrepresentation of the prices that it could be had for in 2017 and 2018 deals:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/310391 -> 1/6/2017 $891 delivered (you'd be waiting over 2 freaking years for the 2070 super which launched at $859 and then typically only had discounts of under $100 for the first few months) <- 1080 ti was pretty damn good value if you wanted that performance in 2017
                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314043 -> 20/6/2017 $894.20 delivered + game redemption
                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/317703 -> 20/09/2018 (Late 2018 as you were specifically referring to) $899

For 2080 Super, deals below clearly counter your 'generous' $1400 number:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/474112 -> $1129 2080 Super right at release July 2019 (need to wait over 1 year for limited stock of 3060 Ti to arrive)
In addition if talking 'months', this deal from 3 months prior to the 3060 Ti release was attainable: 2080 Super for $799 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/565168

Adding to that, practically no one got a 3060 Ti at $650 it was pretty much going for $699 and above at launch in Australia, well above the MSRP.

You are cherry picking very average deals right before the new gen releases to support your argument which initially seemed to be directly in favour of hodling for years before you changed tack (to hodling for months before a new gen releases - which is sensible). I have selected very attainable deals listed above to counter you stating that your numerous were all 'generous'.

It's a flat price for a long period then it's value plummets (when the new gen is released). It's not a linear decline where you save $1 a day each extra day you hodl. So you don't need to hodl for years. 5 months before 3060ti launch people were paying $1200 for 2080s.

Yes I agree with you that this is often the case with pricing and hodling for a few months when generations cross over if in the market for a GPU makes sense. Your numbers still are out of whack and your original comments did directly imply hodling for years and years not just a few months:

i'd wait for 5060 to drop to $450
                &
4070ti=5060=6050. It will be $400 in 4 years even at nvidias current prices

    • Is it $300 off? I see nvidia's website says $1479?

      https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/geforce/graphics-cards/40-serie…

Or nvidia steathily edited the price on their website?

      • +1

It says starting at $1479 which includes every single model, if you click on the "See all buying options" button and find this specific model (MSI Gaming X Trio) it's listed at $1639

        • Ah I see. I checked the same model on MSI's Taiwanese website (it's a TW manufacturer right?), and it says TWD 30,900, which is around $1474

          https://tw-store.msi.com/products/geforce-rtx-4070-ti-gaming…

Can't believe we're getting a better price than Taiwan??

        • -1

Hi again, I am genuinely wondering if I should buy it right now, or wait a big longer? After all, it's a premium model and reviews say it is quite. I'm already using a liquid cooling for my CPU and I do like quite GPUs

          • -3

@Freddies: I hate gpu's. I think they are a disgusting predatory means to extract cash form individuals with mental illness. Gaming will be seen as an addiction in coming decades like gambling. Jensen is merely taking advantage of consumers with a fudged dopamine network

          • +1

@Freddies: I'd wait a bit longer especially if you have a perfectly working GPU at the moment

  • 2060s still goes great in all realty

    • -2

All the people with high end gpu's insecure about their purchase will try to tell you otherwise

None of those people saying "yeah on a 240p phone screen" etc actually own low end gpu's.

      • +2

It's not insecurity if some games genuinely benefit from improved graphics. Then again you're anti-GPU by the looks so I think there's deeper issues than insecurity.

Hopefully it doesn't extend to iGPUs.

      • +1

yeah like everything there is a sweet spot for performance vs price, no point paying top dollar for something 10-20% better.
I'm still happy with my 2060s as i'm only a casual gamer and it's more than enough for that and other apps (like Cad and modelling stuff). Forza Horizon 5 still gets 100-130 fps on med-high settings

  • +3

I recently bought a 4070Ti for this same price. Awesome card, performance is between a 3090 and 3090Ti and with 20% less power usage (280 watts compared with 350+ watts).

    • +2

Yeah, that's what I want it for. Less heat and power usage when pushing visuals.

  • If only this would fit in the NZXT H1 V2 case.
A bit too long and thick.

  • Seriously considering pulling the trigger on this, not too sure if it will fit in my nr200p case though!

  • $1299 should be considered standard price for this card. The exact same dollar deal has happened several times.
