Tesla Model Y from $70,700 Delivered + On Road Costs @ Tesla

64613

Hi All,

Just came back from Tesla in Chadstone. The Model Y has a $3000+. price drop. Just started today at lunch time.
Went for a test driver and when I came back, the sales guy said he just received an email confirming a price drop on the Model Y.
Being a true OZBARGAIN guy, I bought one. Took all of 5 mins to order. 2 - 4 month deliver time.
If anyone thinking of getting one, now is a good time before they have massive back orders I guess.

State Driveaway price
VIC $74666
NSW $71757
ACT $71337
NT $73570
QLD $72856
SA $74360
TAS $71303

  • +3

Safest car ever tested, shame I can’t justify that amount on a car.

    • +2

Not just in crash tests either.

Hear about the Tesla that plunged 250 feet off a cliff onto rocks, recently, and everyone survived?

      Incredible.

      • +2

Apparently the driver tried to kill all the passengers but failed.

        • +1

Any other car he would have succeeded.

          First world problems.

  • +2

The eta is a rough estimate, I’ve had my MY ordered since Sept 2022 and still have a feb-may eta. M3 owners have waited anywhere from 6-12 months, including having original eta of sept-nov, then dec-jan and so on and so forth. Your eta will fluctuate, your delivery window will also change, until you have the final invoice and actual delivery date (2nd feb 3pm as example) then it’ll change on you. A lot of people haven’t expected this, so a $400 non refundable deposit may sway your decision to order or not. But once you lock in this price you will only ever pay the agreed price or any price decreases along the way

  • Can I go thru cashrewards site?
    😉

  • +4

Just be careful - there may be more price cuts to come. The Tesla stock price has tanked due to demand concerns. Not least, but in some small part, due to the antics of Elon. There was unprecedented, worldwide demand for the Model Y and in parallel, a massive ramp up of production at 3 Gigas (Shanghai, Berlin and Austin). So any softening of demand, combined with increased supply leads to you know what.

    • Clarification: Demand concerns. Tesla claim deliveries were down due to cars in transit. They claim while they continue to ramp production the volume of cars in transit (ie: gap between cars produced and delivered) will continue to increase.
Also note Tesla measure deliveries as when delivered to end customers that is not how the industry measure deliveries which is to the “dealers yard”.

Truth is likely somewhere in between.

  • Hang on a second - title says from $74,666 D/A. I get a D/A price of $71,757 in NSW, base model in white, no options:

    What am I missing here?

    • Im wondering the same. Do nsw people also get stamp duty back?

      • +1

        NSW stamp duty is waived

      • +1

Yeah no stamp duty for EV’s <$78k dutiable value. Just realised OP posted VIC D/A price.

    • +1

stamp duty are not waved in some states.

      • Yeah OP should really amend price in title to before on road cost instead of D/A because of all the different state incentives.

Edit - price in title amended.

    It's Ozbargain, not Ozkidneysales

    • +5

This is less than what a lot of SUVs go for these days.

I've never owned a car worth more than 15k, but if you need an SUV, this is definitely a bargain.

      • Tesla calling this an SUV is a real stretch.

  • Thanks OP, tempting!

    • Do it

    • +1

Do it. Also if you get it on Novated lease you save on FBT and GST too, saving you even more money. Speak to Accountant for that one.

  • Complete and utter rubbish

  • -3

Wow look at you mr money bag. Buy a car after a test drive

    • +5

I'm a true Ozbargain guy. It's a massive saving!!! I asked the sales guy was there any discounts on anything before i went for test drive. He said no. But when i came back from test drive, he said he had great news about the discount of $3400. So i said, "great, lets order it." Mind you I did like the test drive, weird driving without using the brakes.

      • 3 weeks on Ozbargain does not qualify you.

        • +4

haha been the silent watcher on Ozbargain since 2015. Buying up all the stuff i don't need cheaply.

        • +5

Plot Twist - OP is the salesman.

          • +1

@montorola: Yep. This entire post is a pump.
Shame on Ozbargain to allow such deception.

            Every opposing comment is downvoted.

      • +4

Lol good salesman technique right there. Reel you in right after the drive.

      • +2

Nice car to drive and a bit unnerving it’s so quiet you can’t tell whether it’s on or off. I don’t like the fact that you have to look to the left and down to see the speed and/or other driving info on the centre console though. There’s no console directly in front or HUD. Meaning I have to take my eyes off the road longer than a typical car’s front console.

  • +6

While we're at it, people drive cars for fun.
Tesla's are very, very fast. You're getting supercar performance under $100k.

    Lamborghini Huracan 0-100: 3.5 seconds

Imagine beating a $400,000 supercar in a race, with a family car.

    • Chicks love lambo and its noice…. Don't think u can win some with tesla M3 on Friday night

      • +6

true, but for others being able to fit 5 family members in a vehicle, having the highest Euro NCAP safety rating ever tested in a car, EV charging, computer on wheels with tons of features, eliminating the need to service the car, plus also going as fast as a super car = now you realize why people rave about it :)

This guy has a pretty good review on the model Y for Aussie families:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Oh7plWKGTI

        • OMG, I literally watched him (and subscribed to his channel too) last night.

          A very entertaining youtuber

    • -1

Imagine beating a $400,000 supercar in a race

      Races generally have corners….

      • +1

Ah yes, the traditional aussie bogan public road race. Definitely not a straight line from the lights, nah its down the twisties of Great Ocean Road.

        • +1

Tesla has excellent handling as well, low centre of gravity with the batteries mounted low in the car.

    • +3

I couldn’t believe how fast they went when I first saw one take off at the lights.

  • +1

Thx to all VIC ev drivers for paying 2.6 ¢ per KM they drive

    • +1

Extra few hundred dollars per year. Oh no.

    • Ah yes, thanks for the reminder! Too bad I live in vic

      • Buy in Tas….save momey and tax….not many people change their rego after moving states

        • How? Change driver license to TAS?
Keen to know how to save money, thanks

  • -1

Thanks OP for the post! Bought 10 units. Paid in Dogecoins.

    • +1

      Hahahahahahaaaaahh!!!!!!!!! So funny!!!!

  • What are the annual servicing costs or other maintenance costs over say a few year period ?

    • +1
    • Zero.

Eventually you need tyres, but other than that…

      • Battery?

        • You lose about 5% over the first 500,000 kms.

So long after all the pricier ICE SUVs are piles of rusting scrap, you'll be halfway to losing enough battery to notice.

How much do ICE SUVs cost in replacement engine parts and servicing over the decade they may last for? Ever owned a Jeep?

  • Not surprised, but still weird - that they missed the mark yet again…

For the WA Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Rebate it needs to: "have a maximum dutiable value of $70,000 or less"

    • +1

Edit: even funnier: apparently delivery fee and order fee don't count for the dutiable value. Making the while one eligible for the $3500 rebate.

But paint options add to the value, meaning any other colour but white will cost $5000 more in WA. ($1500 for the paint + $3500 in lost rebate). More while Teslas. How boring.

      • +4

So the white Y qualifies! Ripper, WA needs some of these gas guzzlers off the road

        • +1

Model 3 is even less, but Y is quite a bit fancier for only a bit more.

  • +8

Wow, a whopping 4% off RRP. Am i on ozslightdiscount.com.au? This is basically spam free advertising.

    • You're right. It is spam-free.

    • +2

      Spot on.

    • +1

      Exactly, this is just advertising.

  • +8

Does it bother anyone that this car doesn't have a digital speed / odometer display behind the steering wheel. Seems like a very odd choice. Been considering polestar just because of that… And a massive ugly tablet glued in the middle.

    • +5

Each to its own… I love it on mine. I had a look at a Polestar today and I found it to be less spacious. Also keep in mind, to get the features what you get as a default in Tesla, you'll need to pay extra on a Polestar. e.g Leather seats, adaptive cruise control etc. So you'll end up paying 5-6k extra for a less spacious car with smaller boot space, just to have that display

      • Are you comparing suv with sedan?

        • +1

Jatbinks is. I'm just saying he's better off getting the suv for a cheaper price

      • +1

Not sure what you are saying, the Tosla does not come with Leather Seats.

For a Tosla you are paying $70K for a poorly made car with Vinyl Seats and a sunroof with no sun shade. Really great on 30+ degree days.

        • +2

My friend said his tesla got 54° when parked for 1 hour outside when outside is only 32°, even with windows open…. Might be because of glass roof

    • Yes it does bother me that it could be a safety concern https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13207928/redir

      • +2

You're probably falling in the 2% of users unable to adjust to it. Tesla is not the first car to have no speedo in front of the driver. Toyota Echo used to have a centre speedo and it had worse safety features.

        • +2

Toyota Tarago and Prius also had center speedos.

        • Why should I adjust for a car I am paying 70k for. I thought it was all about comfort and convenience.

          • +1

@jatbinks: Unfortunately $70k doesn’t get you a custom-designed car made to suit you only

    • +2

Why does everyone make such a big deal of this? You adapt and it becomes second nature. Instead of glancing straight down to check your speed you glance down and to the left. In my regular driving position the speed is right next to my left hand on the wheel. I probably spend less time looking at my speed than my old car as its large digits as opposed to a needle on a dial.

    • +2

A little bit. The speedo placement is not ideal (wish they had a HUD), but the rest of the car is so great that I choose to overlook the small things.

    • +2

Yes, it bothers me. I will not buy a Tesla until they place a hud or other display option.

      • +1

Buy their Model S or X

        • Oh, tesla has HUD? Are you sure? Source please

      • I'm on the same boat, the next car would need to have HUD for me, so convenient (currently installed my old mazda 3 using a portable HUD, Navdy)

    • I prefer the polestar but it's because I'd want the dual motor awd. Tesla equivalent is around 15k-20k more than the polestar. Also I just like the look of the polestar more than the Tesla. But that's just personal preference.

    • +1

Not at all. There’s really no issue doing a quick glance which you do anyway when looking at your rear / side mirrors.

    • +2

More than half the people in this forum has never even driven a Tesla and talk sht.

Drove it today, it was my initial concern but then I realised it’s actually not bad. Might take a little to get used to but overall it didn’t bother me at all.

    • +1

It's annoying but eventually you will get used to it. But not when you got a second car. Try road test Volvo C40.

    • +1

You can buy a aftermarket display for as little as <$100, self install with YT videos.

  • +1

Shouldn't this be listed under "electrical & electronics"?? Lol

  • When is the Twitter limited edition one coming?

    • Soon, but only be purchased with dodgecoin

  • +4

"Delivered + on-road costs" makes no sense, it's a contradiction.

  • +9

    Things to be aware of:

Ultrasonic sensors were recently removed, which means some parking assistance features are disabled until a future software update to use cameras instead. The promise of a feature "in the near future" is from a company that has promised that full self driving is coming next year for almost a decade…

    https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/tesla-ultrasonic-sensors-re…

There's also a radar possibly coming soon that might be worth waiting to find out more about.

    https://www.drive.com.au/news/tesla-ditch-camera-tech-return…

if you weren't in a hurry, depending on how you value those features, it might make sense to HODL for more clarity - this is only reversing some of the price increases over the pandemic.
