  • I still try to figure out what this is and why I would need it…

    • +1

I don't use one but it looks like a normal mandolin to me.
It slices things really thin easily.

The only thing different I can tell from other ones is the round black piece which you would hold in your hand and move back and forth.

Looks very much different to what Nic Cage played with.

  • Nice! Thanks OP, been waiting for one on a decent discount

If the blade can't be replaced or sharpened, I'd rather just get an cheapo one like this, I think the slicing mechanism is also more efficient.

    • Different in that it will probably slice your fingers off

      • What do you mean? That's easily the safest type of mandolin there is.

Nah the safest is to get your spouse or kids to use one.

Actually I am quite happy my $4 slicer. I have no idea why did I pay $68. And quite crazy it's been priced around $100 from 2019 to 2021.

I have this and it's fantastic. If it matters, I am a retired chef and it gets a good workout and has lasted many years.
    Still sharp.

One thing I would like to point out is that I have seen this sold by others, sometimes with different branding and I think I bought one for a gift from Kogan for about 38 bucks a year ago. Don't quote me on Kogan, but I have definitely seen the same model cheaper multiple times and at multiple sellers.

Edit - I won't "neg" this as I appreciate you taking the time and effort to at least try to offer something of value.

    Have a good day.

    • Do you use a glove with it?

    • Great feedback

      Can you replace the blades?

      • No

    • I echo the comments above. I’ve got this mandolin and it’s fantastic. Had it about 5 years and blades are still ridiculously sharp. Does great julienne, really thin slices for salad and waffle fries!

How easy it is to clean? I have a cheapo from aldi and the biggest issue is sometimes even after cleaning red/orange colour water (from beet/carrots) trickles out from the plastic frame holding the blades. Yuck!! So I'm inclined to buy a berniner which seems to have minimum stagnant points.

      • Yeah I have the OXO V-Blade mandoline and it barely gets used because it's such a PITA to clean.

    • No problem thanks for your user experience.

When I first saw this I thought "Progressive" was some kitchen brand I didn't know about. But now I think of it you could replace the word "Progressive" with any brand name in the title.

I thought maybe the other ones might have poor quality blades compared to the Progressive one, but sounds like maybe not and they are all made in the same place.
As you said you have bought more than one from multiple sellers and they all turned out to be the same.

Just to answer some of the questions, you can't replace the blade, but mine is a good 5 years old and still so sharp as a lot of use.

I don't wear a glove, but I do have mesh gloves. The dark part you hold onto, pushes pins into the food and holds it in place.
There is also a clear guard that goes around it.

Super easy to clean. Breaks down to 3 pieces and not a problem to clean at all.

Cannot recommend it enough, but it's definitely cheaper in other places often and can be rebranded, but looks the same.
The one from Kogan was the same as the one i got from a different seller 4 years apart.

    Have a great day.

  • I bought one of these once. Trouble was I thought it was the stringed instrument, not a food-processing utensil. Puts a new meaning to the word 'shredding'…

    • How did it sound after you tuned it?

      • Not sure about the slicer, but I perfected my F###'s
