Worth getting a membership just for this? When buying online, the stock isn't limited to your local Costco, is it? Or do I still need to check whether local Costco has stock?

Sony AU website used to online price match with Costco ( hope they still do). Free delivery plus cashback at cashrewards (1.8%) or shopback (1.75%)
If you save under $100, not really.
Other online stores will often price-match, and in-person deals are fairly common. E.G. Harvey Norman has already matched this.
If you are near a Costco Petrol Station, you would probably recover the membership money, as it's 5-10 c/L cheaper, and their reset/peak period is different, so it can sometimes be 30-50 c/L cheaper during peak periods/holidays. YMMV.

A80 is OLED though, hard to compare to x90
