"If someone rings them about this please find out the base rates."

Post a deal if you know it is a good one. You can't possibly know if you don't know their prices.

  • Looks like Victoria & SA only.

  • My rate given (3054) is:

Peak: First 4080 kWh per year
    18.1456
    Peak: Remainder per year
    19.0344
    Off Peak: Remainder per year
    9.2224

    My current supplier (Neighbourhood) is:

    2012 Rate (first 11.18kWh/day)
    0.1804

    2012 Rate (balance kWh/day)
    0.2094

    Domestic single rate standing
    0.7108

So the rates are almost the same. I get 10% off for paying on time.

May have to take this up. If anyone wants to check their rates, give me your postcode and I'll post it here.

    • Oh wait, that's the after discount rate.

      Before discount (ex-gst):
      20.62
      21.6

      After 20% discount (ex-gst):
      16.49
      17.30

      vs.

      Neighbourhood after 10%:

      16.23
      18.84

      Only slightly better.

      • Whats the 16.49 cents and 17.30 cents?

        • 2012 Rate (first 11.18kWh/day) and
          2012 Rate (balance kWh/day)

        • ahh okay, thanks. Right now i'm on 17.1 c/kWh so it's not worth changing but this could be a good offer for some.

      • Also Neil, Neighbourhood energy has a secret 15% they don't tell many people about. Just ask for that contract and they may provide it. ;)

  • The link say the percentages are off the "usage charges". I think that might mean the discounts are only off the c/kWh for energy consumed, and not the fixed c/day charges that you pay regardless of how much you use.

  • There are more details at http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Internet/primary/memb…

There are three member discounts to choose from:

    1. 20% off electricity use charges and 14% off gas use charges when you pay on time

Requires direct debit and bill via email.

    1. 18% off electricity use charges and 14% off gas use charges when you pay on time

Requires direct debit or bill via email.

    1. 16% off electricity use charges and 14% off gas use charges when you pay on time

Does not require direct debit or bill via email.

Remember to compare rates and charges before switching to enable you to make an informed decision.

    • You will be eligible for the pay on time discount if payment of the full amount of charges specified on that bill is received by Simply Energy on or before the pay-by date specified on the bill. Two-year contract term. Offer is available to existing RACV members and existing Simply Energy customers who are also RACV members. Only available for Victorian premises. Simply Energy’s market offer eligibility and terms and conditions apply. For full terms and conditions, visit simplyenergy.com.au/racv.
  • The supply charges are actually quite high. Almost $1 per day before discount for electricity.

The above rates include GST and the pay on time discount

  • the supply charge is to do with your energy distributor, not with your biller. Simply Energy just bills you for your usage, also the rates are different for every area because of the different energy distributor of each area.
and thus the discount rates are ONLY for the energy usage, not your whole bill. And if you have concession card, you are entitled to a further 17.5% discount rate for the whole bill which is given to you by the government.

    • The supply charge is partly but not fully from the distributor. It also is supposed to cover the retailer's fixed costs of billing, providing customer service, call centre, collections, etc.

Many retailers do offer their discounts off the whole bill, not just the energy usage. Red Energy for example.

  • Does simple energy offers buyback on solar energy?

Meh, cheaper with Dodo (insert Dodo remark here :)). Sure, you kind of pre-pay but the rates are much better. In my area (3163), I get an after discount electricity rate of 21.111 cents and and a supply charge of 58.245 cents per day including GST. This is after the recent price hike. So far, I have not been able to find a better deal. Only thing is is, they don't do gas.
