I've been using the sugar free a bit lately. I make small bottles (half size), beats making or buying a large bottle for a single serve, and a bit more than a can which is always just short of enough for me. I like it - tastes a lot like LA ice so if you don't like that it are expecting coke then stay away.

      • Have you tried the Pepsi Max syrup ?

        • No

            @fantombloo: It's pretty good…

Try one when they're on sale, which is pretty often.

        • why never cola ice cream?

      • beats making or buying a large bottle for a single serve

I've always just carbonated the water in the bottle and add the flavour directly to the glass…

        • +1

Carbonating a whole bottle when you only drink half means the second half is less fizzy

          • @fantombloo: Not if you drink it within a couple of days.

            • @jv: 2 days of good fizz for half a bottle? You must live under considerably higher pressure or lower temperatures than me. Considering I'm in Sydney and you're in Melbourne I'm quite baffled.

              • +3

@fantombloo: If you tighten the lid well, it should easily keep most of the fizz for a couple of days… I only use full size bottles though.

                • @jv: Enjoy your full size bottles, I'll keep using half size.

                  • @fantombloo: Didn't even know there were half sizes available

                • +1

                  @jv: I find this too.

          • +1

@fantombloo: You assume people are not using the whole bottle. It's less than a litre, which can easily be drunk by a 2 person household in a day. I can go through that myself on a hot day.

            • @nafe: I don't really care to argue what other people should be using. I'm not sure why they care so much about what I'm using.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed the cola sugar free

I loathe the artificial sweeteners in these zero-sugar syrups (same as the Cottees cordials nowadays). Any decent flavour alternatives?

This is my favourite sugar free one…

After that, all the new Schweppes ones are pretty good too…

Schweppes Lemon, Lime & Bitters Zero Sugar Soda Syrup 300ml

I bought this on special, it is quite good.

        • They also do the lemonade and sunkist varieties…

        • I didn't know this existed will grab some thanks fella

        • At over a buck a litre for the finished product ($1.09 on special), plus having to fork out for the gas, and then having a generally inferior product overall I'd rather buy the original ready made ($1.36/L on special).

I've got a Sodastream and we love it but a lot of these syrups are straight up rip offs.

          • @GrueHunter: Yeah, didn't save much, that is why I am wondering how this sodaking make 6L?

          • @GrueHunter: The schweppes bottles are smaller than the Pepsi range and Sodastream ones though. Sodastream can make "up to" 9L per bottle, which go on sale regularly for $3-3.50 (which is half price). So roughly 35-40c per litre. However, the caveat on that is you don't do "full" strength flavouring. I find doing the 500mL dose in a large bottle is sweet enough for me, so I max out the range of the bottle. It will depend on individual tastes though.

Cheers JV - I probably should have been clearer though…

Are there any available flavours that are NOT sugar free i.e. they actually contain sugar??

At this point I'm willing to try pineapple cordial or fruit cup, even though they're not rated for fizzy drinks, since Golden Circle don't have saccharin or aspartame.

        • Wondering if I can put coffee?

        • i.e. they actually contain sugar??

You can get Pepsi & Mountain Dew from woolies…

Big W and the Good Guys have much of the Sodastream range…

          • @jv: Both of those have Acesulphame K (950) and Sucralose (955).

        • even though they're not rated for fizzy drinks

I use the Cottees range in my sodastream too…

        • I generally use Bickfords cordials (Tropical is the best, and the Lime is decent also although it can be a bit tart) and Belvoir Farm Elderflower cordials with my SodaStream. The two Elderflower varieties are amazing if you've never had them before.

          • @nathanos: I quite like the Bickfords Mango Ice Tea one lately. Refreshing on a hot day.

    • Soda Press Co syrups. Good organic ingredients, real sugar, taste nice.

And such a bargain at $7 for 3.5L of finished soda /s

Who follows the instructions? The suggested ratios of any of these syrups make for horribly sweet drinks. I put in less than half a finger and still find it very sweet. Also the bottles are often on sale. Who buys at full price?
