Says only for U.S addresses, bugga that

If they allowed people from outside the US it would skew the results

would be interesting to see with all the systemic attacks on education systems… whether if the inclusion of 'foreigners' will bring up or down the IQ pool.

        • +1

          Up.

        • The average (mean, technically) IQ is - and will always be - 100.

          • +1

@bboT: That's like sea level can't rise because its always at sea level.

            https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/13/health/falling-iq-scores-…

After rising for a long time (see Flynn Effect), average IQ is falling, in developed countries at least.
How much that reflects change in underlying intelligence is difficult to know, but it can't be good.

The biggest factor in the US is immigration, both skilled migrants raising the average, and others lowering it. But there is also a generational drop within families.

      congratulations, you passed step 1

    • +1

what a way to find out im average af. lol.

      • +4

It's just complex(ish) pattern recognition and other "skills" that aren't highly used for the every day person.
Pretty sure the only reason I score high enough to consider sitting a proper test to join mensa is because I'm autistic af.

    • +1

Not sure which way to take this.

      Result of IQ Test
Your IQ lies outside the area that the test is able to measure. We are hoping to extend this area as soon as we have gathered more data.

      • +1

Did you complete all 35 or did the time run out?

The response you received usually means you didn't answer enough questions to gather an accurate score.
Or you hit finish too early.

"stay where you are, someone will visit you to verify if you are an alien"

  • Wtf is Mensa?

    • +4

      epeen measuring for nerds

Looks like you have failed the first test

Mensa is a high-IQ social club.
I guess it can be fun if you are a blue-collar worker, and looking for conversation a bit more stimulating than from your mates at the pub.

OTOH, if you already talk nerdy shit with your uni mates, like the latest episode of PBS SpaceTime, you're good.

If you've not heard of Mensa, consider applying to their sister club, Densa.

    • I took the tests back in the 90s in the UK. Got accepted , paid my fees and spent some time chatting with my local group on the internet. Not really my thing but after a while I went along to one of the meet and greets, an afternoon at somebodies house, populated by exactly the type of people you would expect to get tested and go along to these things, a mix of shy nerdy types and brash oversmart types in 'comedy' ties. The girl who organised it was quite nice and I remember drinking too much. Didnt go again (maybe wasnt asked again !) So yes, in my experience, almost every part of this deal ended up as expected. As for a practical purpose for a membership - Ive never heard of one, other than an anecdote I got nothing much for my fees.

    • To my understanding it's a group for people with a high IQ and no meaningful accomplishments 🙃

Forget about Mensa…. You're not Penski material!

If you had your IQ tested properly (i.e. through a specialist, not just something you find online), you can be admitted without taking any tests.

To pay for a test to rate your intelligence is already a fail in my books.

  • +1

    LOL

    You scored a 74

This high score indicates a strong possibility that you may qualify for membership in Mensa!

    [If you pay the fees]

Worth a dollar, as most free online tests are rubbish.

If you want free, Mensa Finland has a proper progressive matrices test online:
    http://www.mensa.fi/wordpress/?page_id=27

Yes, it is in Finnish. If you can't get past that little hurdle, don't bother with the rest of the test :-)

OK, google translate works fine for the instructions, and the actual test is language/culture neutral - just click with square matches. Good luck :)
These tests can be useful for parents of teens, to see if they are living up to their academic potential.
They help predict how well you can do at more advanced study. e.g. should they do methods/spec for ATAR?

Making kids do acadmeics just because they have high IQ is bound to cause resentment

    • just did it, thnx - Älykkyysosamääräsi on noin 126 , joka on korkeampi kuin 95.8 prosentilla väestöstä :)

All of my family qualified for Mensa (my wife and I back in the 90s - we never bothered joining) my kids were part of Mensa after our involvement in the Child Genius TV episodes series 2 for a year or two. I cannot vouch for the other states, but the WA chapter does absolutely bugger all to bring anything together or do any events. Now, to be fair when my kids were members COVID also hit so that may have had some impact but even when lockdowns ceased there wasn't much info at all coming our way.

Sure it's cool to say you're a Mensa member but apart from the one lady that was part of the TV series we actually never met any other Mensa members. Kinda pointless.

Again can't vouch for other states but if you are in WA I wouldn't bother. Maybe activity will pick up again some day.

They do arrange local meets and games nights etc. Did attend some when i was younger and they were mostly fun. Not sure how it is now.

      • Thanks Taita. That's what the main Mensa lady said (yes I know I should remember her name but it was 3 years ago). She was a smaller Asian lady who was like the "head" of Australia Mensa and oversaw the Mensa kids during the taping to make sure they were all being looked after. She basically got us to sign the kids up (teens now lol). We did get the very odd newsletter but really no local meets or games nights. etc.

Like I said maybe COVID had something to do with it but I think organisation of the events may have gone down a tad in WA.

Before social media i had an iq test done. Turned out i was above average. I bet i izznt ny moor

  • +2

I didn't make it to Mensa

    But got invited to Densa

I may not be Mensa material, but at least I have enough smarts to know not to pay for a practice test to tell me that! 🤓
