[NSW] Guns N Roses - Gold Reserve Tickets $89 + $6.90 Booking Fee (Sydney 27 November 2022) @ Ticketek

180

IMHO Guns N Roses are the best rock band of the the late 1980's to mid 1990's.

This Youtube video from July 2022 suggests either Axl is well past it, or he had COVID or some other ailment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23LT0E89m1s

Or perhaps it is the long term result of too much abuse of his body with meth and coke (not the cola variety).

Whatever they are a legendary band and $89 is pretty damn cheap for a band of their status.

I am interested if anybody who went to the Perth or Brisbane shows can comment on what they saw and heard?

Gold reserve tickets were over $200 when they first went on sale, now $89 + $6.90 booking fee

If you buy more than 1 ticket, only one $6.90 booking fee applies….

Based on this Brisbane footage, Axl's voice is cooked

Your non existent link isn't even required to know that :)

Say what you like but last they were in Sydney they were terrific. Sure Axl couldnt even then hit the highest notes he could as a twenty year old, but he could still sing.

I don't know if Dublin was an abhorration or if it is the status quo from now on.

      • Agree, I was about five rows from the stage for their last concert at ANZ in 2017 and they massively exceeded expectations. Meanwhile others at the same concert left early because the audio setup was garbage.

        • Were you to the right as they looked from the stage?

If so, I was probably near you.

I thought that concert was awesome

          • @TheCandyMan2020: Slightly to the left but close to centre. A guy just in front caught Axl's microphone when he threw it into the crowd but not sure if he ended up with it as a couple of meatheads decided they wanted it.

  • Listen to a recent Axl Rose performance before you spend the money !!

    Trust me

    • I would rather hear from fans who actually went to the concerts in Brisbane or Perth in the last couple of weeks.

Judging from this, Brisbane last week, Axl's voice is well past his prime

Axl's voice in the Dublin clip is poor, but the music still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I can't believe I'm saying this but the wifey bought me tickets as a surprise to the Perth show. Boy oh boy was it a surprise indeed. I didn't have the balls to tell her axl can't sing for poo anymore, so I let her have her own little surprise in return haha. He sings in a much lower key, can't hit any high notes and my ears started to bleed. I really wish he had just been honest and said guys, I can't sing like I used to anymore so is it okay if I just lip sync? I would have settled for that I tell you. Make sure if you go, you get fully loaded with pre drinks before the show starts because you will need to be sky high to listen to him. Aside from that, the production was excellent, Slash was amazing as always and they play for 3 hours non stop. They mix the first half of the set up with one popular song to every 2 or 3 trash songs. The last 90 minutes of the show is hit after hit and they finish really well as you would expect from an old school rock band.

His voice is cooked! Such a shame.

Went to Perth show last weekend.
Vocals were not great, wasnt sure if was his voice or sound in the stadium. Show was worth attending though, Slash still has it!

Agreed. Axl's voice isn't great anymore and he moved around the stage like a cute grandpa but oh boy, Slash was amazing! Optus stadium's sound system isn't great if you're seated at a fair distance from the stage (found it crap for other concerts as well) so that probably made it sound worse too. But yeah, they still had the energy to play for so long so definitely worth going to see them if you're a fan.

  • Went a few years ago in Sydney, by far the worst concert I have been to.

  • Same deal is for Melbourne.
But gold tickets are still top level of the MCG.

  • Same price in Vic

I went to the Gold Coast show and it was awesome. Not as awesome as 1993 at Eastern Creek where there were Coca-Cola cup bonfires and human pyramids. But align your expectations - Axel is 61 years old.

    • I'll just leave this here:

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949)

      • A true entertainer indeed. Another who struggles to hit the high notes due to old age.

        • Axl misses most notes these days

    • metallica still puts a lot of effort in and sounds good

I couldnt even finish watching the YT vid

  • It was discounted in Perth too (late - ie due to low sales). I think they were $69.

I will forever hate Guns n Roses for not making Use Your Illusion 1 album. ! album of all the good stuff and it is one of the best rock albums of all time, but as it stands its just 2 overblown turds with some gold nuggets buried in their..

Appetite for Destruction was their pinnacle.

Don't Cry and Get In The Ring are my favourites on 2…

      • +4

Impossible to overstate how influential Appetite was.Truly distilled every hard rock element into an album of bangers - then a few years later Nirvana changed the ground rules.
Still sounds fresh to me, but a frozen moment in time, some good songs afterwards, but hard to recapture that energy and arrival, where you listened the first time and went “oh my god, this is how rock is meant to sound.”
So angry and vicious, and Slash and Duff just driving and making a platform for Axl to be Axl.
I would have loved to see them in Vegas or somewhere at there peak. It’s not possible to recapture that, but I feel like there would still be glimpses.

better value than Taylor swift $94000 for a ticket…..

I went to the Brisbane show on tuesday.
If you go with realistic expectations you won't be disappointed.
I thought the show was excellent

  • +2

They definitely were the best band of the late 80's to about '94.

Watched Terminator 2 again yesterday and the water way scene with You Could Be Mine was just as good as it was on '92 in the cinema.

  • BING?

Went to the Brisbane show with a mate who loved them and I was a bit meh about them. They were awesome. Loved it.

For those worried about Axls vocals, yes he sound like Daffy Duck occasionally but the music makes up for it. Duff and Slash still go hard.

Also, here's the concert where they filmed the You Could Be Mine video: https://youtu.be/yOiB37q1QRE. Axl had issues hitting the high notes then but still an amazing band to see live.

  • Gunners are my favourite band of all time. I've seen a lot of their live stuff on screens - particularly from the 90s, but I've never seen them in flesh and blood.

It pains me to write this, but I've never been overly impressed by their live performances, except perhaps pre 90s when Axl was at the peak of his fitness levels.

To me, one of the coolest aspects of their music is the long, drawn out vocals that Axl achieves - often bending from one note to another (hope you get what I mean).

Axl has always been very animated on stage - even now how attempts to be, despite his aging and his waning fitness levels. This always leaves him breathless. Now I know they are a rock band and as such, there may be some expectation of the lead singer to appear energetic on stage. The problem with this is, he cant hold notes long enough when he's struggling for air. In order to more closely reproduce the magic of their studio recordings, I would be more than happy to see Axl sitting on his arse the for whole gig now. Back in the 90s, he could've just strolled around the stage in jeans rather than running and jumping around in his budgie smuggling tights like a man posessed.

Regardless, I still think they are best rock band ever.

    • Pretty sure Axl also had a serious injury from an onstage fall sometime in the last year or so - I suspect he is still pretty gunshy after that.

      • He was singing for ACDC a few years back (2016) when they kicked Brian Johnson out, allegedly for being too deaf. I remember seeing his leg in a cast onstage at that time. Apparently he busted his foot on his first GnR night back with Slash in 23 years.

  • The guy is 60 and been rocking his whole life with a massive vocal range, you can't expect the guy to sound like he did in his prime. He certainly sounds much better atm than he has previously.
