Trackballs rule! I have several. So handy when you desk is messy, small, or using a laptop on a train / bus / plane.

Yeah, really wishing Logitech would release a revised MX Ergo already. With USB-C and correct microswitches that I don't have to douse in alcohol every few months to stop double-clicking. :(

      • what is that? probably i should do it
what i know: every few weeks i just pop the ball and clean the inside with tissue.

The switches haven't been a problem with my multiple old M570 trackballs, so they're fine. But the MX Ergo has a known problem where after a while the buttons develop a tendency to inadvertently register multiple clicks. I tend to believe this technical explanation of how they've selected inappropriate switches for the use case, making them unusually sensitive to corrosion or maybe even plain dirt.

I'm not technical enough to be able to replace the switch myself, so I just resort to dousing the switch with isopropyl alcohol whenever it acts up, and hoping to keep it going a bit longer until a superior model comes along. I've been doing so for years now.

          • @mystarey: okay, can you show me where is the switch? i have no idea

@CyberMurning: The switches are the actual "buttons" mechanicals internally, so you will need to open up the whole thing up - remove the ball, remove all the screws (depending on model they may be hiding underneath the glide pads). There may be some ribbon cables connecting the shell to the circuit board but you can likely leave those alone.

It'll look like this (image stolen from this post showing more thorough disassembly). I just spray both switches liberally and leave it to dry (or blow some air on it maybe) and reassemble. Repeat every time it acts up, which is every few months for me.

Someone more handy with electronics should be able to buy replacement switches for relatively cheap and replace them outright.

              • @mystarey: ah no wonder…. hmm im not too good with opening but will try one day

      • Had no problem with microswitches but the soft touch on mine has gone bubbly =\

    • Agreed! Also saved my wrist when I was working from home all day, can't live without a trackball now

  • oh that not the trackball with the angle adjustment, right? i was wondering how come so cheap

    • Yeah, I believe the M575 is just a minor revision of the ancient M570, with added Bluetooth.

  • Have both M575 at home and M570 at work. Both brilliant.
