Will there be a search function, or do we have to scroll through pages of products?

    • +2

      Link in OP above.

      • I could not find the link of search function you mentioned. Could you copy it here?
        Thanks.

Pretty easy to find these eligible items, not sure why people complain. Anything 20% above RRP is eligible

      • +2

        😂

      • +3

        22%

        • +6

          50% increase. 22% off. Bargain.

          • +5

            @PainToad: 28.2% increase, 22% off, you're still in front

            • -2

@CacheHunter: How do you work this out? Please

              • +1

@MaccDogg: Don’t worry about it, it just works

              • +1

                @MaccDogg: 1.282 × 0.78 = 0.99996

                • @gilbarc: Ok so your equation takes the 22% off to varify its correct. I like that, thanks.

But how did they get 28.2% tho?

Something costs $10. How do I work out $12.82 at 22% off will be back to $10.

                  I can't simply add 22% to $10 because thats only $12.2

                  • +8

@MaccDogg: You must divide by a decimal.

An item costs $10 after 22% discount, what did it originally cost? Well, it's now 78% of its price. That is 0.78

                    10 ÷ 0.78 = 12.820512..

This is how you work backwards with discounts.

                    Original price x 0.78 = new price
                    New price ÷ 0.78 = old price

                    They're reversals of each other.

      • Spot on 👌

      • could you tell me How to find these eligible items
        Thank you.

      What do you mean ?

    • +7

This is why I don't use ebay anymore.

      • +1

Do you remember those predictions that Jack would leave as soon as amazon arrived?

        • I don’t
But there were some pretty good deals like 10% off storewide (not just eligible sellers) leading up to Amazon’s launch.

      • +2

Same, I rarely use eBay these days.

As a longtime Amazon US/UK user, I found it amusing that people thought Amazon AU wouldn't come good 😂

        • +3

As someone who doesn't buy stuff unless it actually is a bargain (and I need it) what a weird flex

"I knew the billion dollar company that sells crap would be THE BEST at selling crap, and to think you all doubted me!"

On that note I don't understand why Ozbargain appears to be the domain of upper middle class people these days, go to Amazon and get $50 off a $2200 Apple Macbook, how is that a bargain? What is going on these days?

          • @ikt: What weird flex?

I think you'll find OzB has been on the Amazon train for years, well before it hit AU formally… my comment was mostly for the media outlets that slammed Amazon AU as trash when it first landed. And to be fair it wasn't great, but they doubted the longevity for the platform here which we all knew was ludicrous given their buying power. Amazon was always going to regularly hit ATL on CCC, which is healthy for competition.

          • @ikt: No one is questioning the way you shop, so why question those that have different needs to you?

    • +15

Words from Sellers: Sorry, we fund 14% of the 20%/22% while eBay only tips 6%/8%.

      • sorry not sorry

      • +5

Then why opt in and make yourself look bad when you jack a price?

Do you even get an increase in sales volume when eBay run these?

        • +5

I only tell the truth behind as many don't know why. I am not a seller, no further question.

Wonder why they never get hit with accc like Kogan did

    • +2

I think Zip eBay sale on the 17th &18th was not aware by these sellers as they don't fund it, which is a example of real eBay sale.

    • Which ones were price jacked?

    • +1

So its a Jack in the box?

    • -2

I think it's more a case of them stopping double dipping. Often they will drop the ebay price to match any sales they are also running on their website. When "sales" like this come along, they put them back to retail price to stop the double discount. Can't really blame them for doing so if they are copping it.

  • +12

Just in time for me to get an $80 voucher and not be able to stack it with any decent deal. Nice!

    • I thought this too but seems like it doesn't stack. :(

Has anyone tried the ryobi to oztio adaptors from China?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134229609995?hash=item1f40b54e0b…

    • +2

I haven't tried one, but they're just plastic spacers - there's no smarts inside.
As long as it fits properly, you probably can't go wrong 👍

    • FWIW, the ozito range is white labelled from Chinese brands, they're pretty easy to spot on taobao, etc. Exact same specs and skin, different colours. That spacer would be right at home.

    • Should be fine. The same product you bought here are also made in China.

    • If you have or have a mate with a 3d printer, you could print one for about a dollar

Just like the $1 FVF deal. Stuff you eBay.

  • +3

Yes my evil alter ego pricejack will be attending

  • Check the sale on the last day as SB cashback may be eligible or with bonus challenge offer.

  • And tomorrow is also the day we are supposed to get our $80 voucher for the ones who signed up to ebay plus a few weeks ago. I hope we can use it together with these codes

    • +2

No chance. Also be aware that $80 is one-time-use.

      • +1

Yep, and it expires sometime in December, which is pretty soon!

  • Jack is back

  • +2

I’ve got a few items on my watch list and taken screenshots so I can compare tomorrow. Will be interesting to see who does and who doesn’t invite Jack to the party.

    • +1

I would be interested in knowing how your comparisons go with screenshots. I did this once when an OzBer complained that SSD's skyrocket during these 20% off sales. I saved a search page, 100 different SSD's. Most of them weren't part of the sale, but the one's that were either kept their prices the same and therefore included the 20% off or they were removed the item from the sale. My guess is they removed the SSD as they were not prepared to sell it for 20% less. But not one of the 100 SSD's was price jacked. May I suggest that in addition to taking a screenshot, you set a search to 100 items per page, then (if you're using a Windows computer) right click on the page and select "save as" or "save page as" for Chrome or Firefox. Then you have 100 items to compare.

  • +3

These sales and their friend Jack is a prime example of why eBay is a joke. Jack means that eBay isn't even practical or reliable for everyday purchases.

There are so many times where an item is the same price on the sellers own website or priced with the coupon in mind to give a much lower saving.

Back in 2019, I joined eBay plus to build my PC and there were actually decent savings. Since then, site wide are much harder to come by - every sale is eligible items.

Search results, multi item listings, hiding descriptions on completed listings all have massively reduced the sites usability. Even the attempts with Coles were a joke. eBay just isn't set up for that experience.

Sure, there are a few deals here and there but that's about all eBay plus is good for. Still, at basically free each year - it's not awful for the occasional deal.

    • +6

Multi item listings and the search results sorting by the lowest cost item has made eBay worthless to me.

What's the point of sorting by price if all the Chinese sellers put $0.50 stickers in their listings for $50 products and those results rank dramatically higher than $45 listings?

  • Blackjack

  • I know a lot of people are saying Jack jack JACK, but can someone link items or stores that jack their prices before the sale starts.
I would be interested to see how common this price jacking is.

    • Even if the store hasn't explicitly price jacked an item, it still amounts to the same thing if they take down and re-list items at a higher price or only apply the sale to items that were originally put up at a stupid high price to take advantage of the sale.

      • +2

I had this experience with JB. Saw a 30% off Logi PC speakers sale so went and found the price had been raised to RRP to apply the discount. The day before the sale I saw them at their regular selling price 40% cheaper than RRP.
JB admitted they were meant to put the price up a week prior but the speakers slipped through. They caved in and gave my 30% off the regular cheaper price.

  • nice! like good old times when eBay discounts didn't suck

let's see if the item I want is included. with current promos it dips to $1019

  • Not for regular members ?

  • +2

    Black JACK Friday sale.

  • So how much does the store fund? 10%? And eBay the other 12% with eBay Plus? So actual discount is around 12% or is it less?

  • Jack, off ebay!

  • Jack Ass !
