[SA, WA] Brother Wireless Mono Laser MFC Printer MFC-L2750DW $224 + Delivery ($0 in-Store/ C&C/ to Metro) @ Officeworks

2550

I was previously advised in this thread (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735562) to wait for a better deal on the 2740DW/2750DW to get the auto-feed duplexing scanner feature.

Lo-and-behold, Officeworks appear to have dropped the price by about $100 last night. Doesn't appear to be a catalogue deal, but by chance I found it at this price when I was at officeworks. No 'special' price tags or anything indicating its for a limited time only but I'm not sure. The nearest price I could find was $280 delivered or thereabouts.

I've got an older Brother wireless mono laser that performs flawlessly. No connection issues. Fast and high quality printing.

Highly recommended

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

Ive had this one for over a year, would recommend.

Auto feed duplex scanning does in fact work well

    • Same. Got it last year or so and very happy with it. It is still getting software updates, and it connects with Windows, MacOS and Android nicely.

    • Yep also had this for around a year and very happy. Replaced an Epson WF3650 and no regrets. Great for the kids with their school work and my invoicing. The scanning is really good too. I've also set up a few for some of my SMB clients and they have also been happy with it too.

    • How is the ADF? I bought the one without the doc feeder based on reviews that it skewed pages.

      • I had one feed crooked when I first tried it, but now I snug up the guides when adding a new document to be scanned and haven't had an issue since.

        • +2

That's good. I scan maybe a half dozen pages per year so I'm not too fussed, but it's nice to see a low-cost device that works well. I've been telling people who ask me for years that Brother is the shizz when it comes to affordable laser printers.

          • +6

@Chazzozz: Just to add a note regarding the scanning features, the L2750DW and L3750CDW support scanning directly to email address (SMTP) but they don't have it enabled out of the box.

If you email Brother, provide the serial number and ask for scan-to-email (SMTP) to be enabled, they'll send you back a firmware update link and unlock code.
You run that, put in the code and it'll enable scanning without needing the software on computers.

It used to be already enabled or a file you could download yourself but now needs some interaction with Brother.
It's a great feature that is standard on office copiers so wanted to make sure more people knew about getting it going :)

            • @Drow: That's pretty cool! Is configuring it very difficult? Hopefully it supports Modern Authentication so you can use is with services such as Office 365, otherwise you'll need to have available (or set up yourself) an SMTP relay that will allow you to send email through it.

              • @Chazzozz: Configuring is pretty easy, just normal SMTP details and put entries into the address book.
I also add shortcuts to the home screen to reduce the button pressing.

I don't believe it supports Modern Authentication but the SMTP2GO free plan would be plenty for any home environment and possibly some small office environments.

      • Been quite happy with my 2740. I scan a lot of random stuff. I have one gripe and that the fact that the software crops off a few mms off the edges. It's not a bug. Brother has told me that it's by design… - I have no idea why anyone would design it like that though.

    • Although I know this is B&W printing, is the scanning coloured in this one?

      • Yep, scans in colour

  • +4

I bought my parents this and no complaints. Even bought 5 after market toner cartidges.

  • +2

Nice one, I have two of these in my office, and some 2710DW's and they've been plugging along alright.
I swear though, new toners just dont really seem to last as long as the older ones, even with the toner/drum bypass commands.

    • +1

ooo what toner/drum bypass commands are there? and what do they do? I presume something like "keep printing even though a no toner alert has been given" ?

      • +2

I have to google it everytime but off the top of my head

        It was

        Get error out of toner
        Open cover
        Press cancel and clear
        Clear again
        Reset toner

        Done

      • +1

yep. Another reason why my purchase was Brother. The bypass was the most straightforward that I've found.

    • +4

I've been refilling the cartridges on my L2395DW (and previous Brother printers) and that saves heaps. Some folks are wary because they're concerned it's a health risk, but if you wear an N95 mask and some gloves you should be fine.

      • +1

I'm not too fussed with the health risk aspect. I'm reasonably careful.. my biggest concern is that isn't it messy? I buy cheap compatible toner. Would refills be markedly cheaper still?

        • +3

If you read the instructions thoroughly and are careful with what you do then, no, it's not messy. If you're careless, don't give yourself enough space, aren't paying attention, etc, then it can end in disaster with toner everywhere. I highly recommend watching a couple of videos first, and if you want to have a go then always ensure you properly close or cap anything that has toner in it and don't open it until you're ready to use it.

In terms of value, this cartridge does require a 'reset chip' which is an extra cost, but for around $21 for a full refill that seems like good value to me. Certainly better than paying four to seven times more for a genuine cartridge. (Less plastic e-waste as well.)

      • ah yes, the old health risk that no one told me about when I was a teenager/assistant working with large professional plotters and printer/copiers where'd we'd fill up toner and change waste toner bottles and work in the same room with no ventilation all day, and there was toner everywhere and clouds in the air when we did!!
        The old days…

        • +1

One of my first jobs was an office supplies place that also serviced copiers. When I got toner on my hands the technicians told me “The only way to get rid of it is wash your hands in the hottest water you can stand”. Not only did I nearly scald myself, but I managed to fuse some toner to my skin such that it took a week to wear off…

          • +1

@Chazzozz: We once had a spill of about a litre toner bottle and tried to clean up the mess with a standard vacuum cleaner …. bad idea, fused in the cleaner and blew up the cleaner with a bang, we ended up with a cloud of dust, cleaner never worked again, and there was a black smear on the wall next to where the cleaner was at least a meter across that was still there when we moved out a couple of years later! It would not budge when trying to clean it off

  • +2

Thanks bleemo, been waiting for a deal on this printer for ages!

    • +4

      2750 is better than 2730

      • Ah yes just saw was trying to edit oops

      • Why better?

        • +3

          It's 20 better

    • I just ordered this.. damn…any difference?

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a quality third-party toner for this or a cheaper place to buy generic toner?

I have purchased third-party toners in past but the print is very light and not great in comparison to the original toner.

    • +1

I always use aussietoner store on ebay

    • Had the same happen. Kept using it and it came good.
This was a generic high yield cartridge off ebay.

    • +4

I highly recommend Ink Station - https://www.inkstation.com.au/search?keywords=mfc%20l2750dw%… . I have a model similar to this one and I ordered my first generic toner from a big seller on ebay only to have to return it after it didn't work properly. I ordered my next couple from Ink Station and have had no problems at all. Should have just ordered from them from the start as I've used them in the past with inkjet refills too, and never had an issue.

      • Can also recommend Ink Station after a similar experience - ordered toner from another seller that the printer wouldn't register but no issues with the ones from Ink Station.

    • Maybe I need to try inkstation but I’ve had heaps of issues with generics, mainly with leaking powder :(

    • +5

      Inkstation has 20% off.

      Use code VIP20.

Three toners TN2450 for 57.86 shipped.

    • +1

I suggest refilling, but that's not for everyone so YMMV.

  • Got one, thanks.

  • Good price ..well done

    Good printer

Happy with mine and bought for $269 some time ago

  • +3

I have a similar model (MFC-L2703DW) and highly recommend these mono-printers.
The toners are extremely inexpensive for how long they last, on eBay for around $15-25 each (delivered).

  • +1

    Thank you bought one.

  • +1

I bought this for around $250 circa 2019. It has gone up in price a lot since then. Luckily it still goes on sale sometimes.

  • +1

Ah awesome.. I was just going to price match them down from $289, now picked one up for the same price as I was considering the 2730 off Amazon. Cheers for the post and letting me know!!

    • +1

In the exact same boat, glad I waited a bit to give it some thought.

      Thanks OP.

  • +1

Thank you grabbed one, wanted a cheapie for the kids endless printing off photos.

  • +2

    Nice, under $299
    Easy tax deduction

  • +1

Do we have any good deals on color laser printers? TIA

  • How do people find the wireless printing on this? I had a previous wireless printer but it gave me constant problems. Would like to get something reliable this time.

    • +3

I've had a different Brother for a couple of years and found the wireless to be rock-solid. Both Windows and MacOS picked it up and automatically loaded the driver, no troubles with printing after that. It even works off my iPhone!

      • +2

Same experience for me too. I've got a L2395DW and it's wireless connection is perfect.

      • Good to know, thank you!

  • +1

Picked one up to replace my 12 year old brother printer, thanks!! On a side note, how to dispose of my old one? Hard rubbish?

    • +1

Check your local council website for how to dispose of e-waste. They might offer a drop-off point, or a collection day a few times a year. Mine does one every quarter.

    • +2

Officeworks and some other retail stores which sell electronics collect e-waste, I think most/all Officeworks stores have e-waste collection though depending on the size they might not be able to accept a printer if it too large and have no available room in their e-waste bin.

      • Would definitely call OW ahead of time though. Visited one, only to be told they weren't taking any more printers for the foreseeable future.

    • +1

Check bunnings. They've got e-waste bins all over SA

  • +1

Damn I've been holding out for this.

I just ordered this off ebay today with the $80 voucher making it $259 delivered.

Even checked Officeworks first and it was $349.

    I'll try for a cancel.

    • I was close to pulling the trigger yesterday too. Good luck to you

      • Managed to cancel and got this deal instead.

  • +1

Amazing find! Was waiting for this to go on sale! Thanks OP!

  • -1

does this model have the same firmware issue that blocks generic toners

I have been using the 2740DW for years. It will not die or go wrong, so I cannot get rid of it. With wireless printing, you can even complete documents on your phone and print it off, no need for a computer/laptop even.

    • Phone or tablet printing has been revolutionary. I think you can even scan direct to your phone too.

  • +1

Thanks for sharing OP 👍, been looking for a good laser printer to replace my 3rd inkjet printer. I am done with inkjet printers time being.

  • +1

Is there a colour eqivalent to this? Cheers

    • Also want to know this!

  • +2

Purchased. Thanks OP. Looking forward to being done with inkjet.

  • Bought thanks

  • Does this do batch scanning. For example I feed 20 pages and it auto scans double sided documents

    • Still wondering if someone has a reply but just purchased because of FOMO lol

    • No it doesn't. It can either do single or double, you choose the setting before you scan. But you can pretty easily delete any blank scanned pages using the Brother software before you save the scanned file.

  • +1

I've found Brother printers to be really good. have two of them.. one cheapy has done over 19000 pages and is still kicking along. That's with cheapo ink from eBay as well.

  • +1

Legend! Been waiting for this deal for years.

  • Any paper recommendation while we're at it?

  • Great price. I have the same and recommend it.

  • +5

    limit: 5 per customer

yah, deck the halls with brother printers

  • Have this. Avoided the firmware update prompts from the brother software to date. Figure it will cause issues with aftermarket toners. Can anyone provide any info?

    • +2

found no issues with firmware updates and using aftermarket toners

  • +2

bought one tonight, just want to use the scanner features instead scan by phone.

  • Nice find..can we get it from Amazon?

  • Thanks man. No more inkjet for me :)

  • Delivery was free for me, in 2 different states

  • +1

Got one for our office, thanks OP
Was looking for a duplexing scanner for a while, I mean years

  • +2

Have had a 2700DW for at least 6 maybe 7 years now. 2nd toner (generic).
Works perfectly, not a single jam printing. Couple jams over the years using the adf.

Never had to interfere with it, update it, re configure it. It just keeps trucking.

  • Have a 2710DW with no issues, however a bit inconvenient with erratic single side scanning. This should be a nice upgrade, cheers op

  • Bought one. Free delivery in Sydney. Delivery expected on Thursday.

  • Random question, can this do 110 and 240v?

    • +1

Sorry, according to the Brother web site it’s 220-240v only. Scroll down the page to expand the Specifications section, then click another link for Detailed Specifications.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, got one.
