this is an absolute joke of process btw, if the couch is not returned assembled and in mint condition they will knock back assessing it.

    • Considering they sell it at the same price as the refund voucher I can understand why it has to be assembled. It doesn't make sense for them to have to build something and use staff hours when there is zero profit from it, there's also the chance they don't return all the parts as it would be less noticeable than if it were built. They may end up with a product that they can't even sell. Times that by the 40 - 50 buyback products they probably get during these offers and it's just not feasible. They shouldn't knock back products that are scratched and show signs of wear, but if it's stained then it's fair, no one wants to buy someone's piss stain covered couch (and it says in the terms the upholstered items can't be stained). But yeah, I made an estimate for some of the items I have and personally I wouldn't really bother, maybe during this offer I guess if it's something easy to carry but you may get more selling on marketplace or the like. and someone will take it away for you!

      • my experience was particularly awful.

Couch in perfect condition save for a velcro strip on the underside of one cover, which was never particularly functional anyway.

Broke down couch, drove 30+ min to store.

Stood in like for 30min only to be told it needed to be fully reassembled and i would have to go to back of queue.

reassembled couch in the waiting area whilst waiting another 30min for my 2nd turn

assessor looked at it and said that they wouldnt even make an offer on account of the velcro, which they say when they were talking to me and i showed them that as the only damage (they said nothing in the first instance)

        broke the couch down again

        drove home

all in all 2ish hours wasted.

sold the couch for 2x what the offer from Ikea would have been…..

they basically make an on the spot assessment whether they wanna give you 10 bux for your troubles, otherwise rejected for the tiniest scratch or dirt. That's after all the effort you go to carrying a fully assembled item to the store. You might as well just sell it on facebook market where someone will pay you more and come pick it up from your place.

Also can confirm same experience as others above. My experience was specifically at the Richmond (VIC) store.

They know you've gone to the effort of bringing the items to them and that you have no expectation of leaving with your items, so they lowball you with a "take it or leave it" attitude. So you're left with the prospect of taking all your items back to your car if you refuse the lowball offer… Plus the realisation that you just got screwed over by a big corp that doesn't give a crap about your children.

You're much better off selling on Gumtree, Facebook, eBay, etc. and getting the buyer to pick up the item, saving yourself the effort and petrol, as well as getting a lot more money for the item.

Have not tried to return stuff (like others above) however checked the "pre-loved" section at the Springvale store yesterday and everything just looked like left-over-junk.

I've had a decent experience with this. Returned a coffee and side table and managed to pretty much get back what I paid minus a few dollars. It helps that the items have increased in price since I purchased it and had 50% extra on buy back value.

    • Hi, can I ask, do they actually pay the quoted amount? TIA!
