@Red Pandas: I'm in Perth and the loophole may have been closed. The Everyday extra 10% came up, press Yes, didn't take off another 10% discount.

            • @trixieb: Yip didnt apply for me too - 10% off question is asked, select Yes, but no further discount applies

              • @cheapfab: Did you also have more than $500?

                • @trixieb: Yes bought 10 of the $100s in the 1 txn, seems to be the issue maybe.

                  • +1

@cheapfab: I just bought another $250 at a different store and Everyday extra 10% didn't work. Loophole probably closed.

            • @trixieb: Did you have more than $500 worth of cards?

              • @Red Pandas: Yes $600. Should have given max $50 extra discount

                • @trixieb: Maybe that’s why? As it says maximum $500 on their faqs

                  • @Red Pandas: Not sure. Thought it would still discount to a max of $50

                    • +1

@trixieb: Cheers for the input, saved me from signing up just for gift cards

                      • @Red Pandas: I've asked cheapfab above.

                      • +1

@Red Pandas: Loophole probably closed. I bought another $250 at a different Big W store in Perth now and the Everyday extra 10% still didn't work after pressing yes.

                        • +2

@trixieb: I bought 4 x $50 ultimate home, 2 x $100 ultimate home, and some other items - grand total under $500. Then pressed yes to apply the 10% monthly discount - stacked with the 10% off the gift cards.

                          • @cycloneaussie: Great. Is it because you bought other non-gift card items that activated 10% also on the gift cards? Otherwise it doesn't work with gift cards alone as per T&C's.

                            • +1

@trixieb: Must have been because it’s a mixed purchase. Like you said, shouldn’t have applied to the gift cards.

                              • @cycloneaussie: That looks to be the case. I tried with a lot of the same card value and it asked to apply but didn't take off. The next lot I did I had different values mixed in and it took the 10% monthly discount off.

                                • @4892: So your saying, for an example, you mix $50s and $100 of say Home GC and less than $500 in total value, the system would give you discounts? Don't have to put other misc items (i.e. bag of chips) ?

                                  • @cloudie9: We bought 5 times the same card but we bought other items at the same time. Not sure if you have to add other items.
My friend bought different cards but bought as well a bottle of water so cannot say for sure if that is/was required.

                                    • +1

@Heiks9000: Just did one, got a bottle of water just incase, and the extra 10% applied! Thanks for the tips.

                                  • @cloudie9: That’s correct, I also was able to mix different card types of the same value, so for example a Home and a Him both $100 and even if the overall value was over $500. As others have pointed out, adding a misc item may help also. I didn’t try this though as I didn’t need to.

                                  • +3

@cloudie9: Well loophole is closed as everyone talks about it here and some smart ass IT guy working for Woolworths fix it for monthly reward :D

                                    That's why don't discuss loopholes…!

                                    • @SydBoy: True true, but I wanted to give something back to the community here. :)
That said, how else would you share it?

                  • @Red Pandas: My friend bought 600 plus a bottle of water. Got an extra $50 off. Not sure if you need to add an extra item.

                    • +2

@Heiks9000: What happens if you buy Amazon gift cards, doesn't matter that it's not on discount, if I can get the everyday extra on it then 10% is great.

                      • +2

                        @CheapBrah: Good idea

                        • +3

@trixieb: Worked thanks! I can confirm that for me, the Everyday Extra discount wouldn't work until I added some mints. I was using different Him and Teen cards but all $50. The prompt for the Extra discount doesn't happen until the very last screen just before payment.

                      • @CheapBrah: Great question. I have not tried it. Maybe something to test next month hahaha

        • +3

Can also confirm this just worked for me! Extra 10% off, via a prompt right before payment. I purchased some water and chocolate just to be safe 😅.
I only managed to find $100 worth of Home cards at Eastgardens but hey, better than nothing, right?

        • +4

Confirmed it worked this morning. Scanned my rewards membership, scanned 4 x $100 Ultimate Thanks, 1 x $50 Thanks and then a $2 Kit Kat and the prompt for the 10% appears.

          • @BellaWii: The update hasn't been rolled out to that terminal yet.

            • @JIMB0: Meaning you noticed the patch has begun to be rolled out?

            • @JIMB0: If that’s the case then people need to act sooner rather than later.

              • +1

@BellaWii: Still working at 5:15pm 19/11. Just bought $450 worth of Home cards and a $2 lolly. Extra 10% was applied on self checkout.

        • Didn't work for me at 1:30pm yesterday. $500 worth of the same card, $15 of body wash, prompted to offer the extra discount, but it didn't process it.

          • +2

@snuke: Max purchase for extra 10% off is $500. Sounds like your total was over $500?
I grabbed $450 worth of cards to stay under the $500 limit

            • +1

@L45er: You can safely grab $550 worth of card, because the 10% off GC applies straight away so 550*0.9 is $495 at check out.
I just did 5x$100 card with two $1 snickers and I ended up paying $406.8 for $502

      • +1

Confirmed worked as well, Signed up the 30 days Trials, SO GOOD it got double dipped, better than coming 15% coles GC sales…

        I purchased $350 Ultimate GC + $50 Amazon GC + some lollies $6

        • +1

          Great loophole.

    • Wow!! I bet OZBs who got the discounted master card will wish they can pay with that (which I heard you can't).

      $364.5 for $500.😲😲

    • +1

19/11 @14:30, PERTH. Confirm still worked. Bought 4x Ultimate HOME $100 (all I could find), and a chupa chup $0.50
Prompted 10% extra saving at the end just before payment, ended up paying $324.45.

Now the next qn is: will the same trick work at Woolies next time they have a xx% off certain GCs? Here’s hoping 🙏

TY TY TY for the hack 👍

      • +1

Great to see that so many people managed to get it :)

    • +1

Confirm it is still working at 9:10am at Big W Brisbane, got 5 x $50 and a box of chips $2.5 for $204.75

    • Has anyone tried this today?

      • +1

Yes, bought 5 x $50 eat ultimate and Extra Chewy $4, only paid $206.55.

    • +1

I am an everyday reward member but how do you get 10% off ? are you talking about woolworths mobile 10% off per month ?

      • +2

This is brand new Everyday EXTRA, which is a subscription based program. You get the first month free trial if you sub now check your ER app and go to the “Discover” tab at bottom left.

      • Im wondering too if this only for everyday rewards extra or the other Woolworths subscriptions like mobile and insurance that give you 10% off your groceries per month. It means I've could've used this loophole for years since I'm with woolies insurance

        • It was just rewards extra that slipped through the cracks. They stopped the discount on the other products years ago.

  • +1

Any Sydney stores where I can still find any stock?

    • +1

      townhall doesn't sell gift cards
I called Pagewood and Hurtsville seems they are out of stock for Everyone gift card, but they are not sure

      • nothing in western sydney too.

      • Hurstville today had no Him or Teen but had some $50 Her and $100 Style. Campsie had some $100 Her; and some $50 for Students, Home, Baby & Mum, Thanks, Active, Style, Beauty & Spa, Kids (only a couple) and Eats. No Everyone in either store (just the variable amounts, which don't get discounted).

    • Not much left at Eastgardens. Only $100 cards are Her.

However the Extra 10% off is still working there! I just purchased some other GCs which aren't often/ever discounted, and am very happy to get 10% off.

  • Just tried to use at JB and the order went through. Shortly after i received a email saying the order did not process. Any idea's? used it as if it was a credit card

    • +1

The online purchase is a hit and miss. For a guarantee usage, in-store would be the best way to go.

  • Managed to snag some today, but had issues trying to load some of the cards into Apple wallet, error message saying "Your Issuer Does Not Yet Offer Support for This Card". This was on both auto and manual entry. Still managed to redeem the remaining physical cards in store so all good.

  • Has anyone managed to successfully convert any of these physical Ultimate Everyone, Ultimate Kids or Ultimate Teens cards to store gift cards for either JB Hifi or Ebgames?

    • Or what you can do, buy a product, and return it the next day for change of mind, usually they refund in JB Gift Card.

    • It will be up to the employee depending what they will allow, but the Ultimate cards present at the eftpos terminal by swiping and hitting credit as the type and putting in the pin. I’ve had mixed results before in terms of what the “rules” are, but have generally been able to use them to buy other gift cards at JB such as Apple etc. The system doesn’t seem to block it, it’s mainly the staff who will prevent you from going forward.

      • The only way I can think off is just casually rock up and purchase what gift card you want, and tap the Ultimate Gift Card (if you got it under apple pay). But for physical, because it is magnetic strip, should be ok, they usually don't questioned it unless you make it obvious.

    • Sorry - to clarify, I meant converting from the physical card to the egift version from JBHifi or Ebgames using the Ultimate cards portal.

    • I successfully converted my Ultimate Teens cards to PS Store credit at EB games just now

  • Can we mix and match the card variants in one transaction? As in pay with Ultimate Kids and Home together?

    • Yes, can't see why not. As long as the retailer accepts both cards.

  • What's the limit to the amount of gift cards you can buy?

  • @WookieMonster the Everyone card wasn't on sale at Sunshine Big W but others were. Are they maybe excluded from the sale everywhere?

    • Was this the variable load denomination or the $50 fixed denomination?

      • +1

I actually didn't realise there was a difference and staff weren't helpful so I'm thinking that must have been the reason.

  • @WookieMonster What is the best way to convert the Ultimate cards that can be redeemed at JB Hi-Fi into Apple GCs?
Could I take the Apple GCs in value that I need at the counter, pay for them one by one by swiping the Ultimate GCs? Are they similar to EFTPOS gift cards with a magnetic strip?

    • +1

Bring the wanted cards to the counter, pay them all at the same time using the $50/$100 denomination GCs (TCN/Ultimate) by swiping and pressing “Credit” then PIN. Don’t have to pay one by one.
      Thats my experience anyway.

      • Thanks for confirming. I will just get annoyed looks from the customers behind me if I hold up the queue for too long.

        • what about with apple wallet ultimate over $500, do we need a pin as well? the pin attached to the card?

          • +1

@ivyholmes: No, not for purchase transactions.

If you are doing a refund transaction, you will be asked for a PIN (but I'm sure you are aware of that).

            • @WookieMonster: for refund transaction, the pin is the pin attached to the card, or we make a new pin?

              • +1

@ivyholmes: It is the PIN attached to the card.

                • @WookieMonster: Oh you are talking about the refund transaction to the phsycal card, what about the digital card, I mean once I was asked the pin with a refund with digital card, then i only press entered where the signature is required, but i didnt give any signature and it went through smoothly! I still dont quite get it when the refund is given digital card, which pin are we insterting too? the pin which attached in GC or we make it up

                  • +1

@ivyholmes: I did say you will be asked for a PIN for refund transactions, but I didn't say you had to provide a PIN!

Magstripe-only cards and prepaid gift cards are two of the only types of cards in Australia that will allow you to still use signature verification as a verification method.

I know that Coles will actually require you to provide a signature for a refund transaction to a prepaid gift card where you do not enter a PIN, but Woolworths will not ask for a signature from prepaid gift cards for any transactions (including refund transactions).

If you are to provide a PIN, provide the PIN attached to the card.

  • -1

    When can l buy these?

  • Ultimate him card does not have Jb in front of the card

Anyone bought this and confirm if this works in Jb hifi ?

    • Yes. I bought a few psn gift cards online.

  • Today i try to use both HOME and EVERYONE gift card at officework store. And they all got declied. Does anyone experience the same problem?

    • Nope. I used two Ultimate Home gift cards at Officeworks yesterday and it worked fine.

What error message did you get on the EFTPOS terminal?

      • I swipe the card on the eftpos machine and then it ask me to enter the PIN. It didn't allow me to select CREDIT before going to enter PIN. After i enter the PIN, it got declied.

        • +2

One of the Ultimate Home gift cards I used at Officeworks yesterday was swiped. I entered the PIN on the back of the card when asked and it was approved.

You will not be asked to select Credit at Officeworks, because Officeworks' EFTPOS terminals actually check the information on the magstripe to see what card networks are supported on the card you just swiped, and present the different card network options accordingly to you. Considering that these Ultimate gift cards are only supporting the Visa network, Officeworks is saving you time by not asking you to choose the only card network option available to you.

The problems you are encountering can be due to a few reasons, including:

          • The gift cards did not have sufficient balance available at the time of purchase.

          • The gift cards are faulty. (Unlikely.)

          • You entered the wrong PIN. (Again, unlikely.)

          • The EFTPOS terminal you were using at Officeworks was a terminal that Blackhawk Network does not know about. The way in which Ultimate gift cards work (at least for instore payments) is that they use unique identifiers embedded in an EFTPOS terminal to determine whether you are a participating retailer. It is up to the participating retailer to tell Blackhawk Networks what their EFTPOS terminals are, so if Officeworks forgot to tell Blackhawk Network about the EFTPOS terminal you were using (or Blackhawk Network was told about, but forgot to correctly program their systems to recognise that terminal), you will not be able to use an Ultimate gift card using that EFTPOS terminal. However, it may work at a different EFTPOS terminal in the same store.

          • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster You mention insufficient balance. When I use several Ultimate Home $50 and $100 gift cards to pay for a $500 item, does the checkout operator have to type in the split payment amount each time before I swipe? Is it the same procedure at Officeworks and JB Hi-fi? Thanks.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thank you for the quick reply. Today i will go to a different store to try those gift card again. I hope it all goes smoothly. Cheers

          • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster hi, sorry for dumb questions and seems like you know really well, may I know how many gift card that I can use in 1 transaction? I have more than 10 giftcards that I want to use for buying a laptop at Officeworks tomorrow. What do I say to the cashier?

            • @yummypinacolada: If you are in-store, you can use as many Ultimate gift cards as you want, but it depends on whether the cashier lets you do this. I don’t think the Officeworks in-store checkout system has a set limit for the number of cards you can redeem in one transaction. I know you can use at least three.

Tell the cashier that you would like to do split payments and you want to use multiple cards (or multiple Visa cards). Make sure to clearly tell them the amount you want to redeem from each card.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks, just finished from Officeworks. The person was trying to use it as a gift card which couldn't be recognise but I told him to use it as a normal card payment then it went smoothly. Too bad I and the cashier forgot to scan my flybuys card to have another 0.5% savings, but im still happy with it.

I personally think he was unhappy when he knows he needs to do 11 split payments. Be sure to come early to avoid busy hours if you'd like to pay with these gift cards.

  • When you load it into your Google Wallet to tap and pay in store in JB, do you need to enter the PIN? That would slow things down.

    • +1

You do not need to enter a PIN if you are doing a purchase transaction.

You will be asked for a PIN if you are doing a refund transaction.

      • +1

Thanks for the quick response! That's reassuring for using multiple cards.
