Oh god ALDI is going to need security in the aisles from this special buy.

    • Do they need the counter to activate the card before you can use it?

      • +45

I wasn't referring to stealing, I was meaning the absolute pandemonium of everyone trying to grab limited stock special buys.

        • I wasn't referring to stealing,

I mean if they need to activate every card before you can buy them, it will be a mess at the counter.

        • +8

that's like every saturday when some obscure furniture or some wheely bin featured up on some tiktok

          • +1

@slowmo: Exactly, people lining up an hour before Aldi opens at the best of times lol imagine if there's something a lot of people would want.

        • -1

Anyone else pick up on the biggest up voted whoosh ever?

    • +5

aldi probably going to release 10 card per store and then entire sydney stand outside ald in a hope of getting jackpot :D :D

    • Can one buy this online?

      • Yeah I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. Either it won't be available online or servers will go down trying to cope with the massive surge in traffic. Quite sure ALDI realises that and won't bother.

        • I just checked. You cannot order online.

    • There's a demographic who turn up in vans doing this, they did it at Coles twice on me. I'm assuming for some kind of money laundering purpose. There's normally multiple people, they don't look like they have any interest in the cards themselves and they're on their phones reporting back to someone somewhere.

Also see them oddly taking photos in woolies of vitamins and other yellow label specials and sending photos off somewhere, is all very odd.

They truly cleaned out my local Coles last time there was gift card deals

      • Its more than likely a money laundering ring.

Coupled with professional shoppers. Seen a few taking photos of vitamins at costco. Likely buying heaps to ship overseas. Similar to those buying loads of baby formula.

      • I'm Asian so I guess I could ask: are they Asian?

  • +10

Just in time to coincide with Amazon Black Friday Sale.

    • What's the date this happens?

      • +4

Black Friday is the 25th November, so should be around there.

  • There’s a first. Lovely!!

    • +42

use debit savings to avoid the fee

      • +38

you need to insert the card, not use pay wave also

        • +2

To clarify, is it ONLY inserting the card (not using contactless via card or watch) as well as ONLY savings (not cheque) to avoid the surcharge?

        • +2

I use EFTPOS tap and go and never get fees at Aldi… I assume because it's Cheque

          • +3

@Romen: most cards are debit visa/mc cards, so you don't get to choose that option.

even for big 4 banks, i have to kick up a stink to get them to issue me a keycard that has no debit card facilities.

            • +2

@slowmo: I think Apple Pay has the option of setting up the card as eftpos when you tap. I don't have an iphone so haven't used it, but people mentioned it in the discussion about Hiver cashback.

              • +6

                @Miss B: Thanks for this…just checked and you can…

How do I change my default payment method to eftpos in my Apple Wallet?

                On iPhone:

                Open the Wallet app.
                Select your debit card.
                Tap the three dot icon.
Select eftpos SAV or eftpos CHQ from the Payment Option section.

                On Apple watch:
                Double-click the side button.
                Select your debit card.
Then firmly press the display and choose eftpos SAV or eftpos CHQ.

            • @slowmo: My card just says EFTPOS Keycard.

              I assume that isn't a debit card?
              Never really thought about it.

          • +2

@Romen: Yep, you need to make sure it goes through via the EFTPOS network instead of visa/MasterCard. Therefore you need to insert the card and select savings instead of credit. Otherwise the typical card will use credit when you tap.

Apple Pay and Samsung Pay have options to select EFTPOS as the default when tapping with selected banks/accounts.

I use Samsung Pay with a NAB debit card and set to EFTPOS.

            • +2

@dyziplen: Yep. I use Android pay and it goes through just fine through the EFTPOS network with my bank. :)

              • @Romen: I just changed the payment set up on my card with eftpost instead of mastercard. Hell yeah, supports eftpost payment, go local! Supports Australian product!

              • @Romen: Is it with a Visa debit card or a EFTPOS only card? Samsung allows you to add a visa/master debit and let you toggle between the two. With Google you need to hunt down a bank that will give you a EFTPOS only card which they don't normally give to either over 16s or over 18s.

                • @dyziplen: My bank, Bank SA, provides an actual tap and go EFTPOS card to any one.

            • @dyziplen: If you set the network to EFTPOS do you still qualify for the transaction requirements on ING Savings Maximizer account?

            • +2

@dyziplen: Some savings accounts only have debit access. Savings will simply not work at Aldi. So even though it's not a credit card, the surcharge will still be applied. Only way to avoid is to get cash out elsewhere.

        • -3

Wrong. Just used HSBC tap and got 2% off.

      • can this method be applied to any Credit Card ?

      • If you use Visa or Master debit card you still pay 0.5%.
        However HSBC will refund 2%

    • +3

So it would be 9.55% off, if paying via credit. Still sounds pretty good to me! Good way to achieve the minimum spend for credit card sign up points bonuses as well!

      • I didnt think gift cards count to min spend?

        • All the bank sees is a transaction at Aldi. It doesn't identify what you bought. Buying gift cards at any supermarket works fine for credit card sign up bonus spend. If you buy from a store that only sells gift cards (like an online gift card store), then the bank can easily identify it as a non-eligible transaction.

    • I am guessing that Coles mastercard will incur a surcharge too?

      • Most likely yes. Never shopped at Aldi, so can't tell you with certainty.

      • Yes

      • only if they still keep Aldi as active merchant. Heritage bank may block Aldi as well at some stage.

    • +6

Well, my HSBC card gives 2% off so it is worth it.

      • Amen, bruda/sista.

      • Yep, that's what I use at Aldi as well.

      • ya but need do 5 separate transactions if maxing out due to the $100 rule

          • @MiscOzB: what else would I be talking about

            • @Poor Ass: Yeah was about to edit my comment, forgot about the 10% off anyway lol.

              • @MiscOzB: did you end up transferring all ya Hiver money to another account now that it's all used and abused

                • @Poor Ass: Did that a while back yea, hardly got much use out of it. Also still yet to use my HSBC card for cashback, was great timing on the Coles Prepaid Mastercard deal.

    • +4

      I only pay with CASH

      • +4

pfft. i only pay cash when it's $x.x1 or $x.x6, otherwise it's card.

      • +2

        Very good.
        Keep it up.

        CBDCs are coming…

    • +4

      pay by cash, no issue

      • Also no companies have a record of what your buying so they can't build a profile of your shopping habits to sell on.

    • i use hsbc, 2% cashback for credit function under $100

    • -1

Wait just another Year and Comrade 'banese will introduce bank fees on all accounts again! So much for being social!

  • +3

Has any other retailers had 10% off Amazon Gift Card? I feel this is a first (and will be in hot demand).

    • +3

Yes around Christmas last year, Coles had 2000 bonus points on $100 Amazon GC or eBay $50 GC.

      Amazing deal

      • +14

Arguably this is a better deal as some people prefer a straight discount rather than points though 😉

        • +1

Some people also prefer to get a tax deduction for the full amount and use the remaining 10% for their groceries. Win win situation.

      • +5

        That's not 10% off.

  • Limit of 5 gift cards per customer.

I wonder what the biggest denomination is?

    • The photo in the OP is showing $100 for Amazon.

    • +4

probably 500 - But does it really matter if you can walk out and walk back in

      • +22

By the time you walk out and back in, there's not going to be any stock left.

      • -1

        It says 5 per customer.

So you can walk out and back in, but if you've already purchased 5, you are not entitled to any more.

        • +1

Dad, Mum, Child #1, Child #2

          4 x 5 Cards each = 20 cards x $100 cards = $2000 value at $1800 :-D

    • +1

      $100

      • +1

Yikes. Gonna get dizzy with going round and round 😂

      • -1

        Does Aldi has Ultimate Everyone?

  • Other the Aldi Credit Card charge, is there any other fees/costs?

    • +1

      pay with debit savings

      • no other charges? Like the Coles ones that have a fee to setup.

        • +1

Nope. that is only on Mastercard OR Visa cards.. These are normal gift cards. No Activation fees

    • Pay with cash

  • Time to make my family go to Aldis

    • +1

All savings are offsets accounts ;-)

  • +1

So where are you going to hide them OP? /s

    • I'm popping in the day before and hiding them behind the kale.

      • +1

Is that behind the frozen kale?

        • +1

          Not telling, you'll steal them

    • I thought only me doing this. I feel better now.

  • +2

Why take the kids to the Easter egg hunt when you can take them to Aldi for a better treasure hunt. Right?

  • -5

I wonder if aldi sales rep would be happy split my payment to a few transactions of $99 so that I can use my HSBC global debit card to get a further 2% off… I dont know if I have it in my to ask… :o

Has anyone had experience with splitting payments before at aldi? would have been so much better if they had self serve kiosks in QLD/near where I live.
