$2199 can net you a 12700H+150w 3070ti G15 on one of those semi recurring deals. Sure worse build and screen but you can always upgrade with an external monitor down the line and you can’t upgrade the gpu.

If you just wanted a standalone machine it’s still better to wait for - we had a lenovo sale like 1 1/2 months ago - L5P 5800H/3070/32gb for slightly more than 2.2k. Sure worse cpu but gaming wise you still get to edge out this config by quite a lot, or there is L5P 5800h/3060 for sub 1.7k and you really dont lose much gaming performance over this for quite the discount.

Probably better to wait for boxing day/cyber monday deals I reckon, Black Friday is more of a US thing and unless Im mistaken we get better deals around Christmas time, it’s closer to CES announcements and brands will surely offer a more competitive discount for near-last-gen rigs.

    • We do get some decent Black Friday/ cyber Monday deals, so if this is average maybe best to wait to see what else comes out.

    • L5P 5800H/3070/32gb was on sale for $1999.2. That’s what we call as a deal.

    • Does the G15 perform as good as it's lenovo counterpart with same specs?

      • Would see slightly worse thermals but by all means comparable performance. Its a 150w (125+25w db) 3070ti in both rigs with mux switch as well.

For better or worse, G15 now shares the same internal layout & cooling solution as Alienware M15/M16 series. Only differing by the external chasis and that higher end alienware sku gets liquid metal on the cpu.

        • Thank you so much. You're always vey helpful on PC & Laptop stuff on Ozb.

I'm thinking of getting this one: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/dell-g15-gaming…

          Any advice?

          • @Tarajm: I would personally hold on for the return of the 20% off dell ebay coupons where you get the 12700H + 3070ti sku for 2199. The difference between the two chips here is actually tiny. 12900H is just a better binned chip with slightly higher clocks and nothing else, cant even undervolt on it.

Extra $ saved can definitely go towards a nice monitor and an external nvme enclosure-only one drive slot on this years G15 for some goddamn reason.

also note if it’s anything like before, I was able to request Dell ebay representative to create custom deals which can still use the 20% coupon- such as warranty upgrades etc

            • @Brrrrt: Thank you so much. I was under the impression that the difference between the two chips is huge. I'll wait for the ebay deal then. Also, what do you think about the 16gb ram for gaming? Will it hold up for a few years?

              • @Tarajm: If it’s just for gaming + with discord up I am confident 16gb will be enough. Will you get a few % higher with 32gb? In some games yeah, this count will go up as more demanding games come up but 16gb is still more than enough. When it comes to the time that you see a significant drop with 16gb, ddr5 would have dropped to a cheap enough price that it’s a easy upgrade for anyone. By that time you might want a new machine as well.

  • Terrible deal

  • I bought one of those bare bones intel nuc x15 computers with an i7 plus 3060 for $1200 - not sure id pay this much

    • Where is the nuc with 3060

      • Kraken x15 look on bpc. The 1199 deal is gone but there’s still other deals

16% cashback at Lenovo with cashrewards so that'll make it a bit better deal

    • BLACKFRIDAY22 is not listed on cashrewards.

      • It says on cashrewards that Coupons generated by Lenovo will be eligible for cashback even if they're not listed.

  • Can it be powered by USBc

    • 135w with legion charger 100w with normal pd charger.

But you lose a lot of performance so it’s for e emergencies/ light workloads only

      • I got a Legion 135W USB-C GaN charger link, and can confirm it can be charged via both usb c port and power connector port.

When connecting to the usb c port, it shows slow charging. And when connecting to the power connector port, it does not show slow charging.

The maximum watt I can get using power connector port is 40w cpu + 40w gpu, plus 30w charging battery. GPU watt is capped at 40w, and the timespy score is only around 2500 for GPU. Cannot do aaa gaming with this, but good enough to do youtube, netflix, and browsing.

  • After seeing that cracking deal last week on the Kraken X15, Lenovo has to do better on its 3060 equipped models.

  • So I've been eyeing the legion series for a while now. The deals stay exactly the same, but lenovo keeps changing the name of these deals. Today it's BlackFriday22, tomorrow it's ChrisMasMadness.
