  • dammit i was just there 2 hours ago, didnt go to the electronics section… i could have my every wall in my house with big energy tvs!

    • Sounds like you need a self lit OLED.

  • Picked up an EKO 65" one about 4:30pm there this afternoon. Cheers for the post mate!

    • Glad i could help. The wife wouldn't let me buy another one

  • JVC still a reputable Japanese brand?

    • +1

For what? They were bought up by Kenwood, and stopped making TVs some years ago. Anything you see now is just them licensing the name out.
So treat it like any other no-name product.

Based on name alone, might as well get a 65" EKO over a 55" JVC!

      • +2

This is half true, kenwood only bought the car audio division and they are as good as ever.

The other stuff like TVs are Chinese rebadges, but in the past some of their models have been the same as Aldis Bauhn models, and they are decent and quite reliable. I have had a jvc as a second TV for years and it's been rock solid (not a smart one).

$500 for a crappy 75" TV is normal pricing.

I bought a friend who thinks bigger is better a 75" Linsar for $500 exactly just a few weeks ago.

The picture is awful and the sound from the internal speakers is infuriatingly disgusting.

He thought the picture was ok but agreed the tv needed at least a cheap sound bar.

    • +5

every tv even for 10 000 needs external sound

      • I never listen to the internal speakers, however, my Samsung 75" sound significantly better than the cheaper TV's.

Try listening to an eko or Linsar, it's painful.

The Samsung at least is ok until the new sound bar arrives for anything other than music and movies.

      • +1

Sony TVs generally have good internal speakers. I assume dedicated Sony sound bar would be better though

        • Speaker must have volume- flat tvs don't have volume for speakers. $100 speakers will beat any built in sound by a huge margin, add cheap subwoofer and you will never ever try to use internal speakers again

    • i don't get it, it is 4k, how can 4k be rubbish

      • +1

4k only refers to pixel density. Doesn't mean the panel quality is any good. Expect bear bones with 0 features or smooth motion etc compared to the bigger brands.

        • Interesting have an oled but might get this to see the difference

        • A bear bones TV, what is this the flinstones?

  • Are there any left?

    • I doubt they all sold out by 5pm

got a JVC 65 inch 4k smart tv from Big W Top Ryde tonight, considering my old faithful big screen died last weekend after 10 years of service this is a great deal :)

There was a few different sizes and brands in stock and on clearance at Top Ryde. The weirdest was a 32 inch for about $300 and a 55 inch for a few dollars more.

    • how much was it? were there more 65" or bigger?

      • +2

I got the JVC 65 inch for $499, there was a Polaroid 65 for the same price, and from memory a 50, 55, 58, 70 and 75 ranging from around $350 to $650.

oh and some 32 and 24's but I didn't check them.

  • huh even the shop is giving up keeping them

    • Actually the store rep said they will continue selling them, he said they are either bringing out new models or making way for Black Friday stock

Thanks for sharing, but I'll stick with my 77" OLED. :)

  • $449 for the pro series (that supports Dolby Vision) is pretty good. They do chew a fair bit more energy, than say a TCL.
Well, the specs say it uses more. Probably turn the backlight down and they will use the same.

  • Are they not all junk brands?

  • +1

Purchased a 65” Eko a few years ago for $399. Was out of the box, got home and it had 4 dead pixels on it. Contacted the manufacturer and it was covered by warranty so got a brand new in the box replacement. Customer service was great! Have an Apple TV hooked up to it and everything runs fine. I admit the picture quality isn’t the best in the market, but it does everything I need it to do (movies, Kayo, video games, Bluey non stop). Still going strong!

Would recommend getting at this price if you are looking for size. Just add a sound bar for better sound quality.

  • Weird isn't BigW normally nation wide pricing?

  • It's called false economy.
Go to ANY TV repair shop and ask what are the least reliable TV. ECO are on top slong with other cheap garbage tip filler from TCL and ECO, JVC (Chinese made), Dgtec etc.

    • +3

TV repair shop ? they still exists ?… would have throw away if broke, hard to justify to spend half the cost for just call-out fee.

      • Pretty much this, Tb repair shops are kept open only by brands that don't have their own service people, there's zero market for them fixing out of warranty units now, because they charge like wounded bulls, and charge a call out or just to look at the TV, and then tell you exactly how hard you are going to get reamed. It's sad, because it ends up meaning more tvs just go to landfill

Sold out pacific fair - none left

  • To the unsung hero who posted this, I hope i run into you one evening & can buy you a carton! I was about to buy one of these for full price

Fyi for everyone else I was there at 10am and basically everything was gone

    • Hey im just down at Broadwater tourist park on holidays . XXXX gold or Larry's go down well. Lol

  • +2

Just spoke to my local, many of these aren't deleted/clearance stock in most big w shops, Pac fair must have either overstocked and need to shift some to get new stock, or someone f-d up and just started marking new stock as clearance based on size alone. It's slim pickings elsewhere, and mostly they are more expensive

    • Change of mind returns perhaps?

  • -2

Would rather get a half decent second hand tv than one of these new crap ones.

  • Big W Bankstown have them ticketed on clearance $299-$699… No idea on stock levels 55-75" various brands on display..

  • Costco’s QLED X635 55/65/75” smart Android TVs are on sale and have $100 factory mail in rebate. Picture quality is better than my EKO 75 $999 I bought 2 years ago. Motion and stellar colour quality!!!

    • it's $1499 :-/

    • You can get 3 of these for the money of 1 though.

  • Will Gerry Harvey price match?
