        • Thanks for the reply. Which forums are you referring to? Do you think I should try and put it up for sale now, or wait until the new AMD cards and RTX 4080s are out first (to see performance and prices)?

    • 3080 is about $1k now and still seems pretty fast.

  • -2

Stupid and expensive, but for what it's worth, this is a good price. Considering the terrible exchange rate, it's basically MSRP with GST included in the current exchange. Unfortunately, I can't really justify anything that far north of $1000 for a GPU so hears to hoping AMD deliver on RDNA.

    • When are the AMD cards due out?

Just wondering if anyone can explain it to me, but I actually don't think the price is that bad (could still be cheaper) if the USD to AUD conversion was a bit better. Why do our prices end up being so high? Is there other factors in currency conversion that make it a lot more?

      • +1

Pretty much the conversion rate, GST and I imagine some distribution costs. Because Australia is a smaller market retailers might have to go through local distributors rather than purchasing direct from manufacturers although this would just be a guess, things could have changed in the years since I've worked in retail (when I was in Uni).

US MSRP+ GST puts the card at U$1758.9 which is A$2,778.43 so yeah the PNY card is a great price at MSRP :)

I think the RNDA 3 launch date is 3rd of November. So this time next month we could have AMD cards on the market :)

        • I guess when you put it that way it's not that bad. I was basing it on the $1600 price which would put it around $2500.

I will definitely wait for the AMD cards and see what their pricing is like. How much are 6900XTs going for second hand right now? Anyone know?

        • here's hoping, when the dust settles, probably just in time for christmas/ black friday deals.

  • +1

Still cheaper than the slow zbook/elitebook/dell precision/Thinkpad that everyone keep's on getting

    • apples and oranges, but let people spend their own money however they want imo.

  • I ended up paying around $2,400 for a 3080 last year.
Will have to keep using it until I die of old age. Or shame.

    • i feel bad for paying 1400 for my gigabyte vision oc. :(

  • So, are these all FHR now?

    • +1

All the top tier range, 3090 and above has always been FHR.

    • FHR vs LHR is no longer a thing.

  • Plenty of 4090's on Ebay not selling (I wonder why?). Price will tank over the next few months.

    • Plenty of 4090's sold on Ebay. 2 of the 3 listings I was watching sold out within 12 hours.

    • +1

Gigabyte 4090 GOC sold 38 from Computer Alliance Ebay

  • +1

It looks like you're saving about $170 on the current cheapest prices, but you're buying a preorder and gainward have no warranty centre in Australia.
That's a small saving on something so expensive

    • There's available or preorder 3k 4090s with GPU brands that have warrenty centres in Australia?

      • +1

most of 3k cards are sold out by now

        • Wow, was not expecting that. It does seem like it will be best value for money from a $ per processing point of view of all the 40 series, just it's so expensive, 4080 16g much worse value, and 4080 12GB such bad value it got cancelled, probably come back as a 4070 with a lower price

    • Was going to settle for this but thank God i saw your comment!

  • This pricing might just make me give up gaming, they are having us for a laugh. Time to find another more productive hobby…

    • +1

Or realise you don't need a 4090 to game.

      • +1

Well im into VR, even a 3090 is struggling but maybe a 4080 will do.

        • -1

Maybe you can give up VR and just play games on pancake mode.

          • +1

@edfoo: Its hard to go back, mainly flight sims and pancake mode is just not even close to the immersion.

            • @lew380: Well, if Flight Sim in VR at high res and graphics detail is so important to you, then you have no choice but to fork out the $$$ for the proper PCVR setup. It is not mean to be cheap if you want the good stuff.

              • @edfoo: No problems forking out money, i spent 2.2k on a 3080, but 3k just for a GPU? Covid was one thing, this is just robbery now.

I see the argument that (3090/4090)=titan, while the 3080/4080 is the true gaming high end that we all remember, i think thats where people are getting a little confused.

                • @lew380: $3K GPUs are the 3090 and 4090 range Nvidia catering for higher-end gaming for rich gamers (and previously crypto miners). There are a lot of rich gamers willing to pay that kind of money, if you are not one of them, then stick to your $2K GPU and you just have to play your VR games at lower graphics setting than those gamers with $3K GPU. Simple, no need to complain. Think about those who only want to spend $500 on a new GPU and still want to play VR games.

        • Likewise, still struggling along with a GTX1080. It's mostly ok in VR (DCS/) after a lot of tweaking (and not max settings, auto-refresh rate).

I'm pretty underwhelmed with the way the 4080 looks in raster vs 3090/3080ti. So I've just pulled the trigger on a used EVGA 3080ti ($1050), will be a big step up from where I am (particularly in VR) and get me to the next generation.

I don't know DLSS 3.0 will be any good for VR anyway (increased latency is not something you want when it's strapped to your eyeballs).

          • @Abaddon: Swapped to an $1100 3090 after the seller was a bit slow. Should let me skip this overpriced generation entirely.

  • -6

the 4090 is X4 faster than a 3090Ti and it sells for $2200, so $2799 for this seems like a good deal! The problem is the exchange rate not the GPU price alas!

  • These prices must be a joke.

  • +4

Seriously don’t pay this kind of money to Nvidia.

It should be at best $1500-$1600

  • +1

The brands with Australian warrenty centres in stock or able to be pre-ordered start at 37xx btw. So you are paying nearly a thousand more.

  • -4

Thanks man, got one to go with my 300 Hz 16 k dual monitor setup running three games at once. Cause god knows why else anyone needs this.

  • … I wonder what the price/perf proposition of the 4080ti will be once all the dust settles…. surely (hopefully) it would have to be on the AD102…. (and yes am aware there has not even been a mention of this card existing… next year perhaps…)

  • +2

Fun times for Aussies, so far all the 4090's under $3200 have 14 gpu power stages, that's 6 less than the FE, and cheaper electrolytic rather than tantalum filtering, they are overpriced junks. The options from $3200 upwards from Asus, Gigabyte and Msi are good, but at such cost.

    • Any idea about the quality of the Asus TUF non OC? That was under 3k but oos

      • +2

You know what, I didn't realize both MSI and Asus' entry level cards are the same as their OC counterparts that oddly cost $3-450 more!

What threw me is that Gigabyte's entry level card has joined the ranks of inno3d, gainward, colorful, palit, zotac and galax in going with 14x 'dumb' power stages.

While MSI have unfortunately ditched the vapour chamber on their cards other than the Suprim.

Only the FE, Asus and MSI using 70 amp smart power stages on all cards. All other brands either using 50 or 55 amp 'dumb' power stages.

And while the FE has 20 power stages, Asus and MSI have at least gone with 18x on their entry level cards unlike the the rest of the brands with 14.

So for the entry level 4090's under 3k Asus clearly win, MSI comes second, followed by Gigabyte, these three are ahead of the riff raff in their component selection at all price points as we see much more Nichicon, Panasonic, Vishay, Murata, Kemet (aka not Chinese components).

        • What does this mean for the average user though?

          • @cille745: Well it's not a huge deal if you don't want to OC the AD102 to its limit or don't care about quality?

Smart power stages will run the card at ~20-30w less than the 'dumb' ones due to efficiency, equating to a few degrees lower temps/ more turbo boost, and they have over current protection. Quality components will also further decrease chances of catastrophic failure modes.

Its worth noting Gigabyte's warranty is 4 years, Asus is 3 years and MSI is 2 years.

I went with the Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC during the previous 3.1k ebay deal but would have been happy with an Asus Tuf or MSI Trio.

The Gigabyte gaming OC has 20 'dumb' 50 amp power stages, vapour chamber, ten heat pipes, nice components all round, great input/output filtering.

Many of the things I'm ranting about will assist in getting the core clock to 3ghz, which is a nice number to hit, any of these three will be fine for it, which can't be said about the other brands. Although realistically we are only talking about 5% or so performance boost.

I do wonder what RDNA3 will bring and if it will bring down 4090 prices.

            • @TRANCE: So "overpriced junks" was a bit harsh of a term for entry level 4090s. See Overclock3D review of Gigabyte Windforce:

"Performance throughout our testing was very good. The robust cooling allowed the average and peak boost clock of the Ada Lovelace GPU to be higher than that which we saw with the Founders Edition, and this often led to gains in average frames per second in our suite. Admittedly the difference between one RTX 4090 and another is slender, but therein lies the charm of the Gigabyte Windforce. Why pay more for something which has no real world benefit beyond minor aesthetic considerations? The Windforce cooler is certainly capable of running cool and quietly under even the most demanding scenarios, and if it isn't quiet enough then there is the famous Gigabyte Dual BIOS option to swap from OC to Silent.

The Gigabyte RTX 4090 Windforce 24G is a card which revels in its simplicity, adhering to Viollet-le-Duc's form follows function maxim. It's all the card it needs to be, without compromise, and no excessive add-ons causing an increase in price and wins our OC3D Gamers Choice Award. Buy it, Fit it, Game on it, Love it. "

    • +1

Oh please, these cards are not "junk". Their power circuitry is more than enough to handle these cards at stock speeds. The extra power stages might be useful if you're doing extreme OC, but considering the sheer performance and limited performance uplift beyond stock power limits, it's hardly an issue.

      • 100% why pay hundreds of dollars more chasing a 1-2% increase in frame rates for significantly higher power loads

  • I've actually seen this exact card get the best overclocks so far.

    • Where did you see that? I saw some reviews showing Gainward as stellar performer. but it was for the higher tier up "Phantom GS" version

      • On paper the GS version has a +3.5% factory overclock, and slightly louder fans (presumably as a direct result). Anyone know if there actually any physical difference between the two?

        • This one only comes with the 3 pcie connectors. The GS comes with 4 which allows for more power usage therefore more overclock i.e. 600w vs 450w.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJn8ZGfZaII from 1:30.

          • @da1nonly: I'm not too worried about the included adaptor cables, given access to buy (potentially safer) CableMod adaptors. The question is more is the VBIOS locked to 450W.

Although personally doubt there is much meaningful benefit to going beyond 100% TDP

            • +1

@bboT: Unless you want to be on top of 3dmark I dont think you'll notice the difference between 2-3 frames at this level of performance… This is why the pricing on these oc cards is an absolute joke!

  • Anyone know what the warranty is for this card? I swear I saw 2 years somewhere but wanted to ask

  • HODL; RTX 5090 coming out sometime next year, or the year after, or the year year after or the year year year after. Just HODL ;)

  • What is everyones opinion on techfast? Ordered one a few weeks back only for them to email last week for "Payment verifcation" which I sent through, they are now not responding to my emails to verfy if what I sent them is actually accurate…

    • Bought two PCs off them last year. Excellent value for money and responsiveness from Luke.

    • I wrote an email asking if I can still be getting the card on the first week of Nov days ago and didn't receive any response as well…

      • -1

Hmm thats concerning, hopefuly they decide to reply to ther customers, I saw "Luke" was on last night so its not like he's on holiday or anything.

    Hi,
We are expecting to receive them here in the next week or so. Once they arrive we will begin dispatching.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • +2

Anyone know if the included 12VHPWR adaptor for this card has issues?

  • +1

Hey @luketechfast if I order now, what's my ETA, would I still be in the first tranche`?

    • I'm also waiting for such answer, will buy one if it's yes.

  • I just received an email saying the dispatch date is delayed because of the cable replacement… (right after I placed my order…)

    • Yeah, 2 weeks delay it seems.

…While investigations are still continuing and NVIDIA has not yet released a public statement, Gainward has told us that the cables shipped with their cards will be being replaced. As a result, they are holding shipping of all cards until this has taken place. We also understand this cable replacement will not be limited to Gainward alone…

      GG Gainward I guess?

  • +5

Saw this posted earlier on Whirlpool by user ReKTeK - would Techfast like to clarify?

"It would seem that the claim made by TechFast regarding Gainward is incorrect. If anyone has an order with the Australian retailer, you might wish to email them for clarification and cite the following from Gainward.

    Gainward
⚠️Clarification⚠️There is incorrect information suggesting Gainward is delaying the RTX 4090 shipment to replace the cables lately. Here we would like to clarify that- Gainward is not holding any RTX 40 shipment to replace the cables, and has no plan to do so.

The cables Gainward currently used on the RTX 40 have been inspected by NVIDIA team and found no issues. All Gainward shipment is being made as usual. Please don’t hesitate to grab the Gainward graphics cards if you plan to buy one!

      I smell drama

  • +4

This is what Gainward support reply
    Thank you for the mail.

Actually currently Gainward doesn’t have official distributors in Australia.
And Techfast is also not our direct customers.
So we are also confused why and where the news came out.

The cables Gainward currently used on the RTX 40 have been inspected by NVIDIA team and found no issues.
And Gainward is not holding any RTX 40 shipment to replace the cables, and has no plan to do so.

And Techfast still not reply my email about this, if they ran out of stock to delivery and amit it I dont mind but this is dodgy. Feel little shit here

    • +2

Im starting to feel really worried about my purchase, this is my first purchase from them and so far, I'm not impressed. I just hope they are going to actually deliver the card and not delay and then suddenly vanish with our money.

  • I got this as a reply in my inbox when I asked for clarification and linked what gainward said.

"We can confirm the Gainward cards will ship on the timeline mentioned previously, with adapter cables approved by NVIDIA.

    Kind Regards,

    Caleb
    Sales/Support Agent"

    • Exact same response here. :/

    • 'timeline mentioned previously' means 2 weeks later?

But that doesn't actually clarify this issue at all…

I feel like my first order with TechFast might be a mistake.

      • +1

Yep, I also reached out to support with Gainward's facebook post and got the same message as @Matthew xxl

Honestly I'm defs second guessing my purchase with Techfast, anyone know if they would accept refunds?

        • +1

I sent an email to Techfast yesterday and didn't get any reply yet.

          • @xjcs88: Anything new from techfast?

            • @YtseBargain: Still nothing, I guess they won't reply me during weekend.

And their after-sales support is really disappointing, when they asked me to confirm the extra charge amount of my credit card they could reply me as soon as 1-2 minutes.

I'll check this next week, hopefully they can provide some positive information.

            • +1

              @YtseBargain: Still nothing yet…

              • @xjcs88: What did you write in the email?

                • +1

@Tuttifrutti12345: Just cited the drama discussed here and asked them to clarify the situation as well as the dispatch date.
Sent to both [email protected] and [email protected] and got nothing back yet.

                  • +1

@xjcs88: Definitely let us know when you get something back!

So I got an answer from Caleb re: stock.

“ We are expecting the cards to arrive in the next week or so.

Once they arrive, we will be dispatching the cards to their orders almost immediately.”

Now unfortunately the price is now up to 3200. I was hesitant to purchase at first because of your comments and I got a reply within 3h of me asking to confirm stock.

I didn’t see their reply until the day after when the prices had already been raised.

So I guess I missed out, but I hope you get your card as stated.

                      • @YtseBargain: Thanks for your sharing. I still got nothing from both their sales and support email.

I'll keep watching my emails and probably wait until next week.

But TBH, even if I get my card in the near future, it would still be a very bad experience of my online shopping…

                        • +1

@xjcs88: "TBC, even if I get my card in the near future, it would still be a very bad experience of my online shopping…"

I suspect the die were cast on that one the moment you agreed to pay $2,800 for a graphics card.

Sometimes in life, there are no winners. Just varying degrees of losers…

                      • @YtseBargain: By the way, before placing my order, when I firstly ask Luke to confirm if I can get the card in the 1st batch, and when I replied Celeb to confirm the extra amount of charge (the credit card transaction check), I both got replied very quickly.

But after I paid, no one replied my email yet.

                      • @YtseBargain: Yeah pretty sure I got a similar email, pretty much the generic "we're expecting it to arrive soon and once we get em we'll ship immediately".

Thanks mate, haven't gotten any sort of shipping info or anything yet but will keep everyone posted

  • I also asked them about warranty if something goes wrong and were told "They are still figuring this out"…

    • Maybe they want extra payment for warranty given the card is super cheap? ;)

      • No. It's logistically. These don't ship to au. So they need to proxy the warrenty. Nothing to do with charging more

  • +3

For the record. It's likely techfast is simply not communicating well. That being said @luketechfast should help give clarity to this situation.
