could be several plausible reasons - my guess is that someone on the weekend sent that email out trying to (hopefully) smooth things over with customers who were affected. But this sort of decision needs to be made by another internal team who are now up to speed on the problem and doing their thing, regardless of what comms were already sent out.

Just a theory could be completely off the mark.

    • +4

I don't think many Dell employees would be across the fact that emails have already been sent especially maybe it was over the weekend. I think the decision has been made already. Let's not get our hopes high and let us all move on.

5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

You’re at the bargaining stage right now.

  • +6

Yes, Dell could have handled this situation better. But, it doesn’t give anyone a right to abuse customer service workers in hopes of getting the price error honoured. They literally have no power in this situation and Dell’s position is now very clear. Some of you need to get over it now and stop acting like entitled children. Everyone here knew it wasn’t going to be honoured. I honestly thought that most people here were just having a laugh at the situation, but apparently that wasn’t everyone.

    • +4

It's a little sad to see how serious some people in the ozbargain community are taking this matter.

Abusing Dell staff, writing up poor reviews, really ??

Pricing errors do happen, sometimes you may be lucky, most times especially when there is $1k + difference you'll probably have your order cancelled.

Fortunately for Dell they are not a small company, if they was a small company receiving all the bad reviews from certain members in the community that would be a huge setback and could potentially cause the company to go out of business.

  • +5

Muzeeb reading all your comments like 👁️💧👄💧👁️

    • +6

So looks like mujeeb is not getting abused. Wonder if there is a truth to the statements that people are abusing the CSA's. Majority of ozbargainers won't do this. Leaving negative reviews for the company doesn't equate to abusing staff.

  • +1

Kind of sad how some people's reactions and responses feel so entitled.

For the record, I did order like two of them, I know 1000% it wouldn't be honoured, but just the off chance and also what they might end up providing as a good gesture, i.e. discount code.

But hey if I get absolutely none of that, move on. Why would anyone be so upset or butt hurt by how bad their internal systems are, how they can't manage prices, etc etc. They didn't even take any money from you yet until it's delivered.

    • +1

I'm not upset but I am interested in some level of response from Dell.

      Partly for the lols.
Partly because I can't think of an example of a worse example of miss handling of customer experience from an enterprise this large.

While I agree no one should ever be abusive to staff, any of that is on Dell's end I think.
A customer experience rep should have been assigned and their should have been a clear option for communication to them.

A mailbox with "issues@dell" and a quick Automated phone message update could have seriously mitigated what I'm sure has been a disaster for customer service today.

The fact that there's seemingly no process for incident management at Dell is something that is fascinating to no end.

For people who paid via PayPal pay in 4 (like myself), I've already had 1/4 of the price paid for. I got the cancellation, but how does PayPal deal with it? Do I need to contact them and tell them it's cancelled and get the money refunded?

    • -2

Try to argue it, since you have made a payment(even it is partial). That means Dell agree with your sale contract. Try to discuss with ACCC with your case.

      • +2

ACCC don't investigate individual claims and sellers are allowed to cancel orders for price errors.

    • +1

      This is actually interesting.

I'd assume once Dell actually cancels the order on their side paypal will issue a refund.

If you're worried right now I'd contact Paypal support and tell them where you're at the order has been cancelled in email but is still live and ask them how it will be handled.

I wouldn't bother with Dell I've had no luck getting them to confirm if or when they're cancel my pending charges.

    • Pay in 4 T&Cs mention that the first payment is considered to be a non-refundable deposit. But, fear not, you can still pick up this amazing monitor for RRP less your deposit

    • +2

Dell reports to PayPal that the order has been cancelled/refunded. PayPal returns you back whatever you have paid so far. Simple standard process, source: dealt with similar situation in the past.

  • It is absolutely normal to feel upset for those who bought but not to be honoured. Why those people keep laughing/educating those people. When you see something has big discount and you buy it. You will expect you have completed a purchase and wait for the delivery. Then the seller said it is price error. you will definitely feel upset. How hard to be understand? That's why some company will honour the sale even they don't have to.

Price error. Literally, it is an error. That is why people have negative feeling.

    • +5

Let's not be naive and think we never thought this would not be honored. It was a part of discussion from the beginning that this could not be honored. The negative emotions are not justified really.

    • I think it’s being honoured — I mean, we’re all still talking about it…

    • Haters gonna hate

    • +4

You can feel upset. I don’t think it’s very justified in these circumstances, but feelings aren’t very rational. The problem lies when you pester customer service workers because of these irrational emotions. I mean look at a past comment you made that I responded to. This is what you said:

“We can pay it by EFT manually, the payment detail is in the first email you received. And talke to the support that we have paid. Give them extra work to refund. Hope this can force them to honour.”

Your suggestion was to annoy the Dell’s customer service workers to try to force them to honour the price error. Can you not see how toxic this is? These people are just doing their job and likely have no power in this situation. Not to mention that this was a dumb suggestion because you never know how long the refund will take to be processed.

Lots of people on Ozbargain seem to be abusing Dell’s customer service team and it is incredibly disappointing how entitled these people are.

      • That's my previous comment, nothing related to this one.

  • +17

So I forwarded the cancellation to my account manager at Dell as a business customer quering if they could assist to do at least a decent price (because I kind of want it now).
He apoligised and emailed me a quote for $2614.70 delivered for the monitor, with a link to pay via CC.
RRP is $2500, and it's $1800 on Amazon.

What a journey, and they wonder why I don't use their accounts team and just buy from the website direct.

    • quite interesting :D

    • +2

Hehe .. decent price. They need a dictionary.

    • +6

This is the first believable "I talked to my Dell contact/account manager" story in this thread.

My experience with Dell's account managers is that they have 0 interest in any hardware outside the rack room unless the volume is crazy high like the 10k devices range.

      • +1

Their small business team is entirely unnecessary.
They complain when you order online without them, yet when you try order through them the prices are either higher than online or the same.

        • +1

For small business it's usually better to establish an account with Dicker or Ingram where you can often get Dell for a lot less than their small business team.

      • So I reckon there’s about 10K thirsty OZbargainers who would want a deal on this monitor. We should all get together and see what deal they can do for us.

        Say, I don’t know, $250 a pop? 😆

    • +1

He apoligised and emailed me a quote for $2614.70 delivered for the monitor, with a link to pay via CC.

Mine was offering around $1600 which still isn't the best price. Seems you're not spending enough dollars :P Then again I work for a national company spending big bucks on enterprise gear.

      • Well the team could have had XPS's, but all of them prefer MacBooks pros.
Probably blame intel at this point.

    Reply from customer service:

    Dear X,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

We are very sorry, there was a pricing error on the Dell Alienware 38 Gaming Monitor - AW3821DW.

We have fixed it, so it is now available for sale at [at that price/as advertised].

    Thank you for choosing Dell.

    • What exactly do they mean "it is now available for sale at [at that price/as advertised]."

I can't see it for sale on Dell.com at all - under either the personal or business site.

    • +1

Lol no it isn't, it's still taken down from their site

  • +8

I think after the discussions for nearly 3 days internal team came to the following conclusion regarding ozbargainers: eff off

  • My Dell relationship manager said that if somebody wants to email a complaint they should direct it to:

    ANZ_Care_Corporate <[email protected]>

    • +1

      They are useless.

      Thanks for your response!

  • So what is everyone doing in this situation? Are we contacting support or leaving the order as is? My payment is still pending

    • +5

tomorrow at exactly 10am we all march to DELL store/warehouse depending which city you are, to sit and demanding talk with the managers

      • +8

        where is everyone?

        • +2

          How did it go?

      • Is this an anti vaxxers protest deja vu

        • we march to support price error and anti muzeeb

    • +10

Maybe a Chupa chup to each person impacted.

    • +12

      compensation for what?
For damages? this didn't cost you anything, i don't even think they took money
For wasting your time? How much time did it take you to place the order? do you really expect them to compensate you for that entire minute of your life?

      The Karens are real here.

Cmon people, it was fun whilst it lasted, but Dell's actions after the price error are all completely legal and expected. for more info on if it's legal to NOT honor a price error, see my previous comment

      • +6

        The Karens are real here.

Negs on your comment have proven this to be true.

        • +12

Their the sort of people that lowball people on FB marketplace, then when the seller declines the offer they say "Thanks you just ruined my child's birthday, now they are crying"

        • You have very outstanding on the understanding.

          • +1

@paddywide: Let me know how your case with the ACCC goes.

            • @Clear: Wrong assumption. I won't lodge a complaint on ACCC.

              • +2

@paddywide: That's the spirit. It wouldn't go anywhere.

      • -4

I pre-sold a monitor on Gumtree and need to ship it…

        • +1

Contact Dell and ask them to change the address to the one of gumtree buyer. You won't need to stress about getting it delivered.

  • Dell site still didn't show cancelled.

  • +8

I received an SMS staying that my order has shipped through Star Track. I also have a packing slip.

    Dell wrote to me stating:

We were unable to cancel this order.

However I have Stop Shipped this order and informed logistics not to deliver this order.

Incase if carriers happens to deliver this order please reject the order by not accepting it.

Once I get confirmation I will proceed with the refund.

    • Was this a full price order?

    • Huge if true

    • +1

      Muzeeb power!!

    • What time did you order?

    • +1

      sure……`

    • Incase if carriers happens to deliver this order please reject the order by not accepting it.

You can reply to Dell that I will let my Rottweilers loose on the Star Track courier if he approaches my property.

    • They can keep the money, no need to refund. Will happily accept the monitor.

Just pretend you did not read their email and if the monitor arrive then accept it.

    • +3

That is interesting. I got a notification on the AusPost app an hour or two ago that something is coming to me via Startrack but I haven't ordered anything else. It just says ready for processing so far (so not in the Startrack network, just paperwork must have been generated). Haven't received any emails regarding it though and the order status on the Dell website is still just received. Might be unrelated entirely to Dell but just found the timing interesting since I have no idea what else it would be.

      • +1

This has happened to me too. Labelled as "E-Commerce". I had the same thought - very strange

        • Yeah, mine sent by "E-Commerce" too.

        • +1

e-commerce may be samsung stuff, I just had 15 items appear from delivers over the last year of samsung products

      • Also got something from "E Commerce"
Edit: date doesn't seem correct, says 14 Sept. No clue what it is.

      • Just checked my Aust post app, got something from e-commerce too!

        • So I assume you guys all did the Muzeeb

          I know Phoenix did

Muzeeb is worth his weight in gold.

          • +1

@TheCandyMan2020: I never started a chat with Dell /Muzeeb btw. I've left it as is. It's like playing roulette, except theres no real loss and the ball is still spinning after 3 days.

I haven't bought anything from Samsung as well.

      • +2

        I got this notification too.
But said delivering to westfield parramatttta shop 2119.
And I search the shop 2119 in parramatta westfiled, it is samsung shop….

      • +2

There seems to be a bug with AusPost / StarTrack backend.
I got all of these too, as well as a friend. All past dated.

        • +1

My AusPost app is still empty :(

      • Same! Startrack!
Wohoooooo god of dell is listening to me

        • Did you chat with Muzeeb? Not too sure if initiating the chat with Dell had cause my order to be cancelled

        • Did you receive the message from Dell too?

      • +2

Apparently, there was an issue with the Aus Post app where old deliveries were showing for some people.

        https://whrl.pl/RgvQWJ

Sorry, it doesn't look like it's your monitor :(

    • Lol

    • Incase if carriers happens to deliver this order please reject the order by not accepting it.

If you paid $249 why would you do that?

  • +2

You can only hope all orders are sent to logistics automatically the other day and they don’t give a f bout the pricing since their work is just to pack n send. Dell staffs must be smoking some heavy stuff to think that customer will reject the item if it is sent out … hahahaa
“Pls reject our $3k monitor and we will refund u $300..”

    • +2

At the same time, if you were a courier and knew of the option that you didn't have to deliver a lot of these bulky monitors then you probably choose not to. It is not hard to reroute or issue new directives based on tracking numbers.

The odds are stacked against buyers if the directives of stop shipping are true. Good luck to those who got the notification, you got to hope the courier messes up.

  • +2

Oof yep it's definitely over. My order number is now invalid. GG everyone :)

    • Nevermind. For like 30mins my Dell order number was invalid on the website and now it's back in the "received" status.

      • Yeah they sent cancellation emails yesterday morning, more than 24 hours our order is still there on website? Weird. Should be easy press delete

  • Looks like those who got it confirmed and startracked by Muzeeb will receive it :/

    • +1

      We're the unlucky ones :/

      • +2

IDK, there seems to be a lot of red herrings in this thread. I don't know what is real vs what isn't…

      • I've tried the complaints department. They won't honour it. However if you were lucky enough to get it manually confirmed you'll get it, just ignore their advice to not accept the delivery. Sucks to be us lol.

        • +1

          Complaints department?

You did well to find them.

  • Well played to those who are getting Startrak deliveries via Muzeeb.

    Good joss.

    • Now another plot.. muzeeb got sacked but then get a job as startrack ceo!
