I knew it wasnt going to be a good outcome. But that email was filled with a lack of care for their customers. Probably one of the worst Ive seen.

"Our bad guys, no monitor for you lol"

    • +2

They were legally allowed to do that though. I think the only crappy thing is how long it took for Dell to cancel the order.

I reckon there were many that they had to run an overnight automation to batch cancel the orders.

    • +2

Did the email tell you to f… off?

  • +14

    Mine got cancelled:

"We inform you that your order of “Dell Alienware 38 Monitor - AW3821DW”, Order #2008135021930 has been cancelled due to the high amount of rotten no good nicks from the sewers of OzBargain taking advantage of an obvious pricing error. I mean, WTF!, did you really expect us to honor this price and take such a massive hit. YOU and your mates at OzBargain are nothing but rotten, bottom-feeding algae scum!

We at Dell don't appreciate your type around.

    FU twice!

    Dell Cunstomer Care"

    • +3

Haha that should be the email sent a few of the deluded and self-entitled members here.

  • +1

Well they better f***** process a refund quick smart since my card was charged (in production status)

    • +1

Mine still in Pending charge though… Was yours already fully charged?

      • Still pending currently but that’s like every purchase

        • Yeah, but many companies will just let the authorisation expires and the transaction just seems like it never happened instead of performing the refunds manually.

  • +1

    We demand reparations

    • -1

You want reparation? Go to a church ;p

So no voucher and just wondering how about those chat with support?

As I said before more chance the OP can get it if only one order.

    • Hey I managed to order at 7:37am before this post went up and my order was cancelled :(

      • Long time ago I ordered my Dlink router from Amazon UK reducted from $3xx to $6x, I did receive it.

  • -5

We can pay it by EFT manually, the payment detail is in the first email you received. And talke to the support that we have paid. Give them extra work to refund. Hope this can force them to honour.

    • +7

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds dumb as bricks? “Force them” by handing them money, which they will eventually refund. Don’t you have better things to do with the money you have lying around, like chucking it in a HISA, paying off high interest debt or putting it into investments? Who knows how long it’ll take to refund you and whether you will need to follow up on it because it will likely be manual.

      • Yes, dummy and their money soon part.

    • +1

Give them extra work to refund. Hope this can force them to honour.

      They won't

  • Finally received the cancelation email. Still doesn't show it on my Dell Account order though

  • My order was cancelled. I am in tears.

  • Mine was cancelled too… same email as what others have posted.

    • Associated all got cancelled?

      • Sorry, not sure how I managed to ticket the associated box, but I have no connection to Dell.

  • +1
    • UPDATE orders SET order_status = 'CANCELLED' WHERE order_id IN (SELECT order_id FROM orders WHERE product_code = 'AW3821DW' AND price = '249.01' AND order_date >= '2022-09-16')
    • +1

By this logic, everyone's initial orders would have still progressed through because orders made on Friday morning were showing as 15/9 😃

  • Hahaha called it suckers. No need to fomo if you missed out on this deal when it was 100% going to be cancelled anyways.

    • +8

Casually scrolling through to see how many salty people I can find. Every blatant price error people get so upset. They never learn.

      • -1

At least they provide us free entertainment.

      • +1

For me the cancellation isn’t so much of an issue, if it’s a legitimate price error then fair enough. The email response and the delay in sending it was disappointing though. It came off as insincere, I think it could have been managed better.

The rest of it was a bunch of jokes and laughs for us. I don’t think many if at all anyone is actually salty about the cancellation. It maybe the poorly drafted email that people took objection to.

        • +1

Probably took time for management to investigate and make a decision. What was the issue with the email? Is it because they didn't give you compensation?

          • +2

@Clear: Have you read the email? How it was worded.

The “internal use - confidential” line.

It comes off as unprofessional and insincere irrespective of compensation.

We have seen other price errors handled much better from smaller businesses. You would expect much more from a large organisation such as Dell, or maybe not. Haha.

            • @gamemaster:

We have seen other price errors handled much better from smaller businesses.

Like Shopback? Everyone's personal information and passwords stolen. After a bonus $3 all is forgiven. Significantly a bigger deal than having a little sook over 3 words in a cancellation email.

              • @Clear: That’s a different issue and that was handled poorly. A data breach, not a pricing error. It’s comparing oranges to apples.

In any case I’ve blacklisted Shopback and closed my account with them.

I’m not sure why this is making you upset?

                • -2

                  @gamemaster:

I’m not sure why this is making you upset?

Isn't that you? Everyone who is complaining about an "insincere" email and a very blatant price error not being honoured.

I always have the time of my life pointing these out in every price error deal. This one time in a HP laptop deal I was getting negged and being told I was wrong when I said the ACCC won't do anything no matter how much you report it.

When people came back weeks later to say that the ACCC said HP did nothing wrong…. man was I happy.

                  • @Clear: I’m not upset by the email, I’m pointing out it’s not a great one IMO.

Given the time taken to respond to the obvious pricing error, they could have put a little more effort into the email. Brand reputation is essential in business, why tarnish it with what I read as a poorly drafted email.

Personally I think they sent out the wrong email, that would certainly add to the drama of it all.

                    • @gamemaster: Seems likely that the draft email is the final email and they just didn't remove that line.

          • +2

            @Clear:

What was the issue with the email?

They didn't leak everyone's email address in CC's so that we could have a nice old reply-all chat.

  • +21

I LOL’ed at those geniuses spending hours trying to get “confirmed” only to be cancelled

    • +2

Myself and others said it pretty early on. That means jack shit until the order is actually shipped 🤣

    • -2

Let's just wait and see hey?
Tracking numbers have to mean something right? xD - Thats all im saying

    • This is why, when I find a deal, unfortunately I keep it to myself. Thought I’ve never seen anything as good as this - I assume experts with their price checking sites knew about it very early on and who knows if they got it

  • +22

You know what to do next time all jump on chat together asking about the price error.

    • donkeys, ruined it for everyone lmao. reminiscent of a naruto run at area 51, what did they expect to happen??? hahahaha

  • +2
    • +3

      ACCC is a Toothless tiger.

    • +10

Why would they? ACCC and consumer law specifically covers that cancelling orders due to a price error is legal.

      • They are not toothless.

They are a political org so only interested in issues that can make the news headlines.

  • +2

This just in - Muzeeb spotted taking delivery of 1200 AW3821DWs after updating the delivery address for all our orders to Hyderabad, and sending out a mass cancellation email to the Ozbargain collective.

  • +2

Some people will still receive monitors. Just wait.

    • +12

Yes, those who paid full price.

  • +7

On the plus side, at least we got to laugh at the clowns who thought they could outsmart the ordering system.

    • +9

Now watch those clowns try to involve the ACCC

      • +1

So embarrassing. I ordered early but the initial invoice didn’t look right, I thought, might get a voucher at least, oh well

  • +2

I received a cancellation email too, at the bottom in a small grey font it says:

    Internal Use - Confidential

    • Me too

    • Exactly. That email wasn’t meant for us.

      Not over fellas.

      /s

      • So… Who was it meant for?

  • +2

How many people are going to be filing complaints on Monday? I assume alot of people

    • +2

      Doing it right now!

      • How? Emailing?

        • +17

          Yelling at the clouds

        • +1

It’s Sunday. They are confessing in their church.

          • @edfoo: Did you see someone confessing in your church?

    • Only desperate and loser will do. Its already Wednesday tho. Have you got anything?

  • Nice! No more Dell products from now on!

    • +1

How many did you buy before?

      • -1

Dealbot will be having a hard time when posting a Dell deal next time.

    • +4

      Lol this troll review:

I purchased a Dell monitor and payment was made. Dell waited a few days and sent me an email saying the order was cancelled. Initially I was a little peeved, but phoned support who told me they would in this one instance, honor the price but could not do it for everyone as there simply wasn't enough stock. Basically, they turned around and made this customer happy rather than frustrated. I rate Dell at 3 only because it didn't have to be initially so frustrating until I spoke up

    • +1

      Here we go Ozbargain Army!!

    • +20

Dude this is a bit ridiculous. It was obviously a mistake. It’s full on entitlement to expect them to honour a price that’s a total mistake. And then review bombing them.

      • What do you expect? There are idiots in this world.

  • +9

I reckon they sent out the wrong email.
The one they sent seems like a draft.
Formatting is off and it’s not worded well. It’s comes off as insincere.

I think the “internal use - confidential” at the end of the email also suggests this.

Having to wait two days for this email is disappointing and to be honest seems unprofessional. Even though the most likely outcome was cancellations it could have been handled better by Dell with open, honest and swifter communication.

Maybe the used this event as business promotion and to add additional customers onto their books? I might be a little cynical.

    Until the next price errors…

    • +4

Nah the internal use is just another evidence to show how bad Dell is. Cannot even check the email properly

    • +1

"I don't care anymore, just send it, put them out of their misery."

      — some mid-level manager after trying to get a decision by HQ on their day off, probably.

  • I was hoping they’d at least offer EOFY pricing

  • I have not received my order. Therefore, I am requesting a refund. I invoke my rights under Kickstarter's Term of Use:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/terms of use/oct2012

''Projects Creators are required to fulfill all rewards of their successful fundraising campaigns or refund any Backer whose reward they do not and cannot fulfill.''

This is a formal request for a refund of my pledge amount.

I want a full refund of the total amount pledged for the project.

  • +1

So which is the best email address to send my long complaint to?

    Dell | Order Received <[email protected]> - NO
[email protected] - Better but not great

    • +4
    • For others like me that didn't pick up that Candyman implied that the ANZ email no longer exists:

      Dear Valued Customer,

We regret to inform that this mailbox is retired and no longer operational.

We truly apologize for any inconvenience caused to you. For any support on your recent order(s), please visit our Order Support page.

Received the same internal email, however:

    • My orders are still on my order page.
    • The email was definitely not meant to be distributed the way it was. It looks unprofessional, not to mention the internal use stamp at the bottom.

Apparently Dell have their feedback email setup with a rule to automatically send new messages to trash.

  • +4

    GG everyone
Perhaps the real bargain were the friends we made along the way

    • I love you 3000.

  • received email at 5am while everybody is asleep 😂😂😂

  • +1

Here's a tip for future pricing errors.

"If a pricing error is genuine, a retailer may be able to back out of a sale particularly if no money has changed hands.

The situation can be very different if you've paid for a purchase." - https://www.moneymag.com.au/price-tags-consumer-law-your-rig…

If people had paid via EFT (bank transfer), there would be real grounds for getting the monitor.

    • I was one of very very few people that paid with eft. Do you have a official government link that shows that if you have already paid you get to receive it?

      • Nah I don't. It's really up to the seller and how much hassle they want to go through. The ACCC/Fair Trading will question them and waste a bit of their time if complaints are made. Dell may choose to avoid the hassle and deliver some of monitors but that may make them responsible to deliver all they reasonably can. I think Dell is choosing the cheaper 'hassle-full' option over the more expensive less-hassle option in this case.

Price errors are more commonly honoured than not. There are numerous pricing errors listed on OzB that have been honoured. The last one I missed out on was the Anaconda metal detector deal. Ended up being 40% off a 40% off price. That was an awesome deal and fully honoured. Sadly I got in late.

A few years ago Amazon listed some Sony alpha cameras for 10% of the price (90% off) and they honoured 1 per order. It went down in history in the Sony photography community.

I purchased a pro mic for my camera for $8 (RRP was $349) a couple years back - an obvious price error. That business honoured it.

Businesses do honour pricing errors more than the naysayers here lead on.

It was totally reasonable to have had hope for this deal but it appears we haven't been so lucky this time.

      • +3

        You a cop?

  • -2

The 3 people the negged this post should be removed from ozbargain.

This deal was as good as it gets….sure, it got cancelled, sure it was highly unlikely that we get it, but this post and deals like this are the true representation of what ozbargain is about

    • +3

"but this post and deals like this are the true representation of what ozbargain is about"
      OzBargain is about GETTING deals…
I just don't know this deal is "as good as it gets"

      • +1

Yes…and you got the deal, it's only after 2 days the business declined it, the post should not be downvoted for that, go vent your frustrations with the business.

The post and the OP did everything right

        • +2

Wow, actually I think the positive upvotes before a deal has come through are in the wrong. It creates a false sense of a good deal from a unobtainable one.

          • +2

@lonewolf: This is a good deal. We get free entertainment for 2 days. The adrenaline, the tension, the hope.

            Its priceless.
            Should have 20,000 positive upvotes
