It looks that the whole PC DIY market is shrinking as hell.

    • +10

Just curious why do you say that? It is normal for prices to fall as new products come into the market (DDR5).

Saying that GPUs may come down soon.

  • It costs the same everywhere anyway…

Which mobos and CPUs is this compatible with

    • +3

Any motherboard that supports DDR4 will work with these.

    • That's a very long list.

3600 Mhz also available for $179

Those RAM sticks are the exact same speed as the ones in this post due to being C18, definitely not getting anything for your extra $20.

          Absolute latency = (CAS latency*2000) / Frequency

          3200mhz DDR4 @ C16 = 10.0ns
          3600mhz DDR4 @ C18 = 10.0ns

You could probably run either of them at 3400mhz C16 for 9.4ns although in real world usage it won't really make any difference.

          • @Agret: Ah right, thanks for correcting me

          • +7

@Agret: Not entirely true. There's some great articles and youtube vids on the benefits of running 3600-3766MHz RAM and Infinity Fabric sync'ing on AMD platforms.

Running 3600Mhz DDR4 in sync with the native 1800MHz speed of the Inifinity Fabric has considerable performance gains on current gen Ryzens, even if latency is forfeited to achieve the syncronous speed. And whilst it may be possible to manually set RAM timings from 3200mhz DDR4 to achieve 3600MHz at looser timings, the $20 premium for the guaranteed sticks is money well spent in my eyes.

That said, arguably the biggest benefit of the linked Vengeance 3600MHz sticks, is the low profile of 3.35cm. Many of the same folk chasing faster RAM, overclocking and FPS will likely have 120mm or 140mm based CPU cooling towers need low profile RAM to accomodate bigger fans and heatsinks.

There's plenty of 3600MHz DDR4 these days at good prices, since performance builds on AM4 platform use synchronous 3600-3766MHz RAM for best performance - even better than faster RAM which runs asynchronously.

            • @UncleRico: what about for intel 12400f with b660 mb? is 3200/16cl or 3600/18cl better?
Purchased 980 pro ssd, corsair 4000x case and 2400mm AIO so far, will buy 12400f, b660 mb, rx6800 or 3070, 750w ps soon.
Or should i get amd 5600?

              • @stevelo: Sorry, I can’t speak intelligently on recent Intel architecture. Have only built AMD systems for the past 3-4 years.

            • -1

@UncleRico: It's not entirely true either. You cannot provide a clear evidence on that and are simply quoting those reviews. However, when you actually look at those scenarios, how realistic are they to "real life"? Do we all have flagship GPUs? Also, do we all have high refresh rate 1080p monitors?

There ARE scenarios where lower latency RAM with slower frequency wins out. In general application usage, the difference is generally minor.

In terms of REAL performance differences, depending on your usage pattern, you will most likely find CPU or GPU makes a much bigger difference. Furthermore, with AMD platform, DDR4-3600 RAM modules, there can be compatibility issues. Even E-die RAM modules are not 100% safe.

        • Some of those 3600 use e die.

          • +1

@ryantsang713: If a lifetime devoted to Rocky films and Russian overclocking websites has taught me nothing else (and it hasn’t) it is that, if e die, e die…

    • Is it worth spending the extra for 3600MHz version over this 3200MHz version?

      • +1

If you’ve got an Intel system, marginally.

If you’ve got an AMD, definitely.

      • If it is DDR4-3600 CL18, then there is higher risk and may not be worth it, unless you have a decent motherboard or a newish motherboard.

Majority of people want to go DDR4-3600 for AMD because of the clever marketing and the FCLK lock. However, even that is relative as certain chipsets and boards are more flexible on that.

It can be a frustrating experience getting DDR4-3600 to run on AMD if you opted for cheaper DDR4-3600. It's not just the CPU. The motherboard does matter too.

  • +1

Build a new PC with DDR4 now or wait and build a DDR5 system with new Intel/AMD chips?

    • Even the current Intel CPUs can run DDR5, just AMD we're waiting on.

    • +13

DDR4 and wait. Hentai doesn't need much spec to run.

  • Bought this last week. Works nicely.

  • Will this suit i5 12600kf on a B660? Or is it better to go 3600mhz? I'm upgrading from g.skill trident Z 16gb 3200

    • +1

      On a 12700k @ 5ghz (with rtx3080) the difference @ 1440p UW between c16 3200 vs c16 3600 was like 2-5fps in hitman2 and horzion zero dawn benchmarks ..ie negligible.

  • i am building a gaming pc for my doughter since 10+ years my last build, is this ram https://www.amazon.com.au/CORSAIR-Vengeance-PC4-25600-Deskto… any different except being 16g/white/rgb?

    • +1

Your memory is definitely taller (not an issue if you are building in a normal case), but besides what you already mentioned it should be the same.

  • thanks op. good timing. am looking for 32gb ram.

  • Just bought 2 x sticks for a machine for proxmox.

For my main PC, I have 2 x 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX C18 3600Mhz (CMK32GX4M2D3600C18) - would it be feasible for me to use the C16 3200Mhz in conjunction with whatever i have now? I am wondering if i should buy another 2 x sticks for my main PC.

    • Should be fine if you use it at 3200Mhz

      • thanks. Is 3600 C18 "faster/better" than the 3200 C16? Couldnt get my head around the differences. One has a higher clock speed but a slower timing - and the other one the opposite.

        • There are a lot comparision in youtube for this, it might be a marginal faster by higher FCLK theoritically.

  • It seems like that AM5 motherboard for the new AMD CPU to be launched in 2 weeks will only support DDR5 only.

    • -1

That's obvious. AMD is "marketing" AM5 platform to last for a few years, going with DDR5 is essential.

  • As OzBs are the smartest people on the interwebs for the best tech advice, I have Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3200MHz C20 RAM. Would this C16 or C18 cause any sort of conflict with the 2 diff latency speeds?

    • +1

As long as you set it to the slowest of both sets, it should be fine.
