Tax payers’ money probably better spent on fixing the broken NSW state lol

    • +21

Or help settling down the ever going Sydney Trains workers' strike.

        • well yeah but i took the extraordinary step of finding work that is 15 mins by car

glad to never need to take a bus or train

          • +13

@tonyjzx: You better of finding work that allows you to work from home.

            • @ca6leguy: Send customers the instructions and materials (and tools) to install their own cables… genius! Not sure who delivers the package, though. Better give that some more thought, and I’ll get back to you

    • But but free travel would be fraction of the cost.
Now imagin union put a stike on that day lol

    • Probably from 2nd rate state lol

  • +8

thx queen. do we just walk thru open gates again like the industrial strike days ?

    • +1

Na tap on because there’s every chance one of those transport idiots will try to ping you

    • +1

"There will be no need to tap on or tap off to use any bus, train, ferry, light rail or Sydney Metro service during this period.

Anyone who accidently taps on or off with a contactless device, like a credit card or phone, or an Opal card will be refunded within a few days."

    Any deal for Queensland?

    • I blame the Labor govt. myself…

    • +56

your state is now called Kingsland… get use to it.

      • +1

After decades of vicious queenslander! chants, it’s time to switch to slandering the king

    • +1

I can only find Proclamations for SA and NSW. What about VIC?

      • Same as Queensland, the name of Victoria is from the Queen too. So, not for the King.

"Public transport will be free across NSW on Sunday with the State government to waive fees to encourage residents to witness the proclamation of His Majesty The King.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the ceremony will be held outside NSW Parliament House from 12.30pm.

“Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend,” he said.

However, those unable to make their way to Sydney will still be able to take advantage of the free travel.

Transport Minister David Elliott said waiving bus and train tickets would give all residents the chance to attend the historic ceremony.

“The unique way in which our Constitutional Monarchy enshrines the rights of the people means that it’s only appropriate for everyone to be given the chance to attend the Proclamation,” he said.

Macquarie Street will close to traffic for the ceremony during which the NSW Police band will play “God Save the King” followed by the Australian National Anthem and a Royal Salute. .

A proclamation occurs when a new Sovereign takes over the throne after his or her predecessor dies.

The successor is proclaimed as soon as possible at an Accession Council in London.

Along with Mr Perottet, other guests at the Sydney ceremony will include the Chief Justice of NSW Andrew Bell, NSW Governor Margaret Beazley, NSW ministers, MPs and Labor leader Chris Minns.

The proclamation ceremony for His Majesty King Charles III, will take place outside NSW Parliament House from 12.30pm on Sunday, with the general public invited to view the event from Macquarie Street.

Operation Commander, Superintendent Anthony Bell, said extra police resources will be deployed to ensure a safe and secure environment for those who will be attending both event locations.

“We will be working closely with other agencies to ensure the free-flow of vehicular, pedestrian and commuter traffic around the event and across the Sydney CBD.

“With large crowds expected to gather at the floral tribute site and in Macquarie Street, we will be deploying general and specialist resources to ensure the safety of community members attending these events,” Superintendent Anthony Bell said."

  • +7

Guys, im shouting ya all free public transport from my tax this year

    • Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to the Cayman Islands until January, due to other commitments. But it’s a really generous offer!

  • excellent, i wanted to do a ride that was a bit far from home. this helps

  • Are ferries included in this? Some places say public transport, some others say "buses and trains"
    Thanks

    • +3

      Yes.

free travel, which will be offered on trains, buses, ferries and light rail across the State.

    • +3

Members of the public are urged to attend or celebrate with friends and family, with public transport across the State to be free.

  • +1

Dom probably thinks he's the king

  • +2

On ya Liz, even in her death shes giving us little freebies. Yes im well aware this is fully funded by taxpayers :P

    • +3

Actually, it’s only partially funded by taxpayers. Most of the cost is on the government credit card

    • -2

actually she's doing more in her death than when she was alive. Free public transport and an extra public holiday.

    • Miracles after her death, but unlike Mary McKillop, regina QE gets on with it and delivers promptly.

Jokes aside, RIP QE. While I'm pro-republic, I still respect her.

It'll be tough act following her…

      • Let's be honest there isnt really any following her 70 years on the Throne. Charlie boy is the captain of a shinking ship. The outpouring of grief we're seeing in the UK seems entirely for QEII, and not in any way for the monarchy. I agree, a Republic is only appropriate now that shes gone.

  • -8

Lame deal. Fix the strikes and commute. Stop delaying the light rail.

Don't use the Queen as a reason to make yourself look good Dominic Perrottet. Bloody jerk

He should have step down ages ago. Gladys was better

Perrottet is the worst premier for NSW just like his Liberal counterparts Scomo as PM

    • +2

      Someone needs a hug

  • How about Victoria!

    • +1

You only get taxed for using EV unfortunately

    • +5

      Rubber bullets

      • Rubber dom

      • +1

        That was a bit of a shocker…

    • Not this time unless you guys change the name to Charlestown

  • -4

What a s**t. When are we going to get of this slavery? Free at the expense of tax payer's money? Fix the roads and hospitals mate. When I see the once-real owners of this land, I feel sorry for them. None is ready to even declare a holiday to commemorate their past or present, but happy to celebrate birthdays and proclamation. Meh…

I know many wont agree, but I couldn't care less. Hope someone would have the courage to say the "king is nude". Sometimes truth is bitter.

    • R u ok

      • +1

Thanks I am OK. Hope you are as well. But the system, as a whole, seems not OK if you step out of prejudice and watch. Wish it was…lol..

    • -3

      Your ignorance is amazing.

    • Foods for thought: “Ethiopia and Liberia are widely believed to be the only two African countries to have never been colonized.”
I know not everything was ideal in the beginning, but look at where we are now compare to other countries. I know where I’d rather be. Embrace the present and make the future better rather than complaining and blaming.
For the record, I do not have any English root.

  • -1

    Should we still tap on?

    • +1

Post image link says do not tap on or off!

"Anyone who accidently taps on or off with a contactless device, like a credit card or phone, or an Opal card will be refunded within a few days. Those travelling on pre-booked regional train or coach services will be automatically refunded also."

      • I'll tap that thanks.

  • +3

    Hooray! All peasants/subjects rejoice! 😊

    • The only king I care sbout is Elvis! ;-)

      • +1

Have there been any recent sightings? I’m pretty sure he died on the throne, but I didn’t see it myself

  • -4

This deal defies critical thinking. You have train workers striking for fairer wages, amid high inflation, and at the same time the govt is offering free public transport in recognition of a monarch who’s born in privileged.

Let this govt be judged in the next election.

    • +1

Agree with you liberal state government is trash

      • 👍

I was also referring more to if they wanted to do something to celebrate the proclamation, think of something else to do. Not hurting working class folks more when they are already in strife for the recognition of someone who’s privileged, which is illogical and no critical thinking. The state deserve those with higher standards of level of thinking

  • +5

All regional trainlink tickets are coming up as $0 as well which I cannot believe is real… Free train ride to Melbourne anyone?

    • +1

Might as well travel in First Class as that's $0 too XD
Works for Brisbane or Melbourne :)

    • +1

      It’s a one-way ticket. Have fun!

    • +1

      Wow !!! Amazing !!!

  • Does this include the airport stops in Sydney, domestic and international. It doesn't say.

    • As someone mentioned above, the entire Airport Line is closed anyway (i.e. including Green Square and Mascot), as is becoming usual on weekends. Same goes for anywhere west of Blacktown.

      • And North of Gosford also from memory

  • We can be heroes…. You know the rest

  • +1

Last time public transport was free we still had to tap on.. but now they ask us not too..

  • +3

For all the GDP we generate, Sydney is a relative crap hole.

Crap transport, rude and crap people, crap housing, crap service.

    • The harbour is nice, though

  • Does anyone know how this will work with the park & ride car parking?
It requires a trip recorded, so you get the free 18hrs of parking.

    • Well if you tap on and off, you'll be refunded in a couple of days it says.

  • I thought the free travel was celebrate Nate Diaz's last UFC fight?

  • if my husband wasn't working a 24 hour shift today, I might have been tempted to go to the city, but, meh, can't be bothered going out by myself.

    • That’s the spirit!

  • Hope you guys enjoyed my treat (thanks to my tax dollars)
Will be running same promo when King Charles III passes away

    Lol

  • Sunday's 2.50 day unlimited travel so no idea the fuss.

    • Not for a couple of years now…

    • It's $8.40 these days (on Saturday and Public Holidays as well). But the real surprise was the regional train network, which would save you real money (if you managed to get a ticket).

  • what's happened to train network now? gates all open today! industrial strike or royal matter

  • 😮 the 2.50 travels gone, oh dear it's 8.40 now weekends dam.

    Well it's stil unlimited travel

    • Explains the traffic on sundays when its a nice day.
