[VIC] Free Tickets to University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concert 25/9 5pm at Hamer Hall (Limit 2 Per Transaction)

220

It's basically this deal again, but with all new music… by which I mean old music… by which I mean awesome music (Mahler rocks!!!), plus a soprano, a contralto and two whole choirs backing up the Orchestra.

From the blurb:

The University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presents Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (The Resurrection), one of most powerful musical experiences encountered in a symphonic concert.

The orchestra will be joined by by contralto Heather Fletcher and soprano Teresa Ingrilli, along with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus and our Conservatorium Chamber Choir.

Join the nation’s finest young musicians as they take the audience on a journey between life and death, mortality and rebirth.

EDIT: Mahler 2 run time is ~80-90 mins, so I expect the concert will wrap up around 6:30pm

EDIT (16/09/22): A small number of additional seats available in the Circle.

  • Op @Yapapi, it would be great if you can share how long the session would go for. Don't want to be frown upon if we have to leave earlier for somewhere else we need to be later….

    • There's usually an intermission, right?

    • +1

Mahler 2 running time is ~80-90 mins, and there is no intermission as this is a single work.

  • Only balcony seats left?

  • ticket allocation exhausted! :(

    • Has been before, I think they are progressively releasing more seats, so check back later.

    • A small number of additional seats available in the Circle.

  • Is there a dress code for hamer hall? I've never been.

    • +1

"There is no official dress code for Arts Centre Melbourne, although shoes and shirts must be worn at all times (if you're taking a Back-stage Tour, you must wear closed-toed shoes). If in doubt, smart casual is always a good choice.

We want you, and those around you, to be comfortable. If you'd like to dress up for the occasion, that's wonderful, but if you prefer comfort to couture, then that's fine too."

Jeans and t-shirt is fine. I've worn ugg boots to a classy concert hall before, not an issue.

      • Thanks for the info. Its just that my tux is at the drycleaners at the minute! xD

Jeans and a shirt no worries.

For me, I certainly would at least go smart casual with a button up shirt. Hamer Hall is a beautiful and premium venue.

And the performers will have put hundreds of hours into practice and preparations. Dressing nice is just a little way of showing you care for all the hard work they have put in and recognising the occasion it means to them.

      Enjoy the concert!

  • Exhausted. Thank you.

    • A small number of additional seats available in the Circle.

Fun (totally irrelevant) fact … I was a tenor in the MSO Chorus for all of my uni years. It was the most fun 'gig' I ever had. I had to give it up when I started working, because the time commitment became non-viable. If you have a lot of free time (i.e. are retired), live near the CBD, are a tenor, and can sight read reasonably well, I highly recommend that you audition for this choir at the next opportunity (they have auditions once a year). They can never get enough decent tenors, so if you fit the above criteria you will be a shoe in.

Went to this tonight. We’d never been to anything like it. It was good. Kids got bored. Lots of empty seats everywhere though even though it was booked out. Maybe ozbargainers forgot to turn up! Will go again for sure (if it’s free).

I went and it was fantastic. Kinda disappointed seeing the empty seats though.
