Join the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in their second concert of 2022 and share in a kaleidoscopic experience of musical imagination.
Led by Associate Professor Richard Davis, the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Tom Henry's Visions from the interior (after Fred Williams). They will also be joined by the winner of the 2021 Conservatorium Concerto/Aria Competition, Brian Luo, for Rachmaninov's virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 3. After interval, the orchestra will perform Berlioz’ Symphony fantastique, a ground-breaking symphony which changed the course of musical history with its vivid musical storytelling.
The performance will open with the world premiere of Tom Henry's ‘Visions from the interior (after Fred Williams)’. Brian Luo, the joint winner of the 2021 Conservatorium Concerto/Aria Competition, will then join to perform one of the most technically challenging concertos in the standard piano repertoire - Rachmaninov's ‘Piano Concerto No 3’. After the interval, the orchestra will perform Berlioz’ ‘Symphony Fantastique’, which portrays the semi-autobiographical story of an artist as he navigates increasingly nightmarish opioid hallucinations.
