BTW here is an extra 7% code, I accidentally generated it twice: LSTHXG8XC6NNNV

    • +7

      You are incredible

      Let's generate more together

  • Is this seriously worth it? Lotta coin for something you can at 1/3 the price. Sure those options are VA and this is qoled but the price…. can nearly get a 49" G9 for this price.
I'm not a big fan of AW gear as it is WAY overpriced for the sake of a plastic sticker with a alien head on it.
Marketing gimic and bragging rights is all it is imo. Looks nice but at this price i'd expect a 4k spec monitor, not 1440p

      • -1

        LOL. Got me good.

        • Huh?

          • @Axelstrife: You've got a Nintendo switch on this screen, I thought ironically but apparently, you legit use it for this purpose. I mean all power to you, but there's a lot that this monitor can do, that's being left on the table, when you're using it with a Nintendo Switch (not that it's inherently a problem), just its being paired with basically the best that money can buy when a Nintendo switch is not that.

            • @GENAB108: Console was to show why OLED is better than IPS, VA or TN panels.
You really think i spend $1700 on this monitor for a switch not a chance my PC is a 5950x/RTX 3090 literally above the monitor in the pic, you just cant see it cause my lights are off and i dislike bright PC LED's which are also off.
I also have a Xbox series S and PS5, merely picked a random one.

      • lol seriously downvoting me for showing why the monitor is amazing?

Peoples voting makes absolutely zero sense i swear.

        • -1

How does your picture show why the monitor is amazing? because it supports HDMI? I don't get it

          • -1

@Lebofly: It's more about what the picture doesn't show. It doesn't show the black bars on both sides due to it being OLED and blacks are actually black.

    • +5

None of those options are oled though.

      • +3

Exactly, this is a good price for an OLED monitor. I have a LG 42" C2 which I chose personally, but there will be those that want higher refresh rates than 120hz and the lower resolution makes reaching higher frame-rates easier, plus it's QD-OLED which has minor benefits over traditional OLED. It may not be for everyone, but this is definitely a good price.

    • +4

I think if you aren’t desperate you could wait a year or so and there would be lots more competition.

      • Agree, it's kinda new tech so wait a while and will be cheaper options like it.

    • +1

LOL - yes, it is worth is.

Even a typical (and good) 1440x3440 monitor for office use costs anywhere from 700-1100, let alone an OLED.

    • +2

It’s not overpriced for the spec of the panel; but whether or not it is worth it depends on your circumstances and how much you care about picture quality.

For PC gamers, it is the comfortably best monitor you can buy.

    • +1

      Is this a copypasta meme

    • +1

I have one and its amazing. Best monitor Ive ever used. You wont be disappointed

    • +1

Yea, it's worth it. I have one and it's drop dead beautiful.

    • +5

It is 101% worth it as someone who has owned one (moved to a C2 42”). There’s no other QD OLED monitor you can compare it to at the moment, Samsung are to release their one but looking at their G9 Neo pricing and other high end monitors they’ll be marked surely over $2000 AUD.

This will beat the G9 Neo in every single way apart from its 240hz, pictures will look much vibrant and the blacks are well ink black and I have had the normal G9 VA in the past and it doesn’t compare other than the aw factor of the G9s curve.

Also in-terms of this Alienware QD OLED you also get 3 years premium panel exchange warranty and I’ll take Dells warranty over Samsungs any day of the week, their returns are easy, try returning anything at Samsungs online store it’s next to impossible. Also because of the warranty if you need to RMA they will send you a monitor first before they pickup the faulty one, I had a AW38 which started having dead pixels, they sent me a new one which unfortunately did have dead pixel as well and without asking for return of both they sent another one which was perfect and later picked up both the monitors.

Also it being 1440p, is much easier to run games at, and is be impressed to see if people can tell apart 1440p and 4K at this size unless they’re pixel peeping.

      • That's a great comment!
Thanks to those who have replied to my comment. It was just my opinion about the price, as in the past people jump on the dell deals for monitors but only buy when they're on special at silly price reductions.
For a 34" i thought this price is overkill but with these comments it seems justified.
Looks like i'll be saving up lol

      • +1

I just wish it was flat and not curved :(

  • +6

$1633 @ Amazon. Cheaper if you have any discounted Amazon gift cards.

    • Does getting it through Amazon still have 3 year warranty?

      • Yes, same warranty

    • Additionally this will arrive by Thursday compared to Dell's 1 Month+

      • +1

Ordered yesterday, delivered an hour ago

        • Did it give you an ETA of one day or just lucked out?

          • +1

@Lebofly: I think when I ordered on Monday it had ETA of Wednesday, which updated to Thur, but ended up coming Tue. Was shipped by Toll and I subsrcibed to tracking through them

  • Dell is way overpriced

    • Way Overpriced dell is

  • Can't wait until they make a 32 inch 4k 120hz+ OLED monitor, that would sell like a hot cakes if priced reasonably.

    • There are many OLED models in the pipeline, and with very high refresh rates. The first gen is way overpriced to gouge the prosumer. Also the are issues with the technology which will be better implemented later.

      • +1

How is it "way overpriced"? There are full array local dimming LCD monitors that cost double this and still don't deliver the same picture quality.

Also I wouldn't expect the subpixel layout to change. This is the same Samsung who stuck it out and made pentile commonplace for phone OLEDs.

    • not holding my breath, at the rate these guys are milking the consumer i'll be surprised if we get it within the next 5 years, samsung still trying to fleece people with $800 4k 144hz ips monitors LOL

they trying so hard to segment TVs and monitors, got everybody hooked on ips wwwwwwqhd monitors. good luck with that i'll be using tv until <$500 4k high refresh oled hits market.

    • +1

what's a reasonable price for hot cakes?

      ^_^

  • -4

Umm… $1600 for an 34" oled screen? But why?

My 55" Oled tv cost me a little over $1,000.

    • +1

I assume refresh rate and gsnyc have something to do with the extra cost.

      • Oh.. And the word "gaming".

    • +1

Because there is no other OLED product at normal desktop monitor size

    • +2

A little over $1000? So either you bought it second hand or it's one of those nasty Hisense OLEDs from a few years back.

Either way this is a completely different ball game.

      • -4

OLED is still OLED. If you want a "good brand" OLED then you can still get a 40" one for 1k

        • +3

Can you get an ultra wide 34 inch qd-oled with gsync ultimate, hdr and 175hz?

Cos if so link me up. Otherwise let's stop comparing apples to oranges with tvs lol.

  • +2

I still reckon the 38” is a much better size and value

    • I’ve had both and the 38 looks quite a lot worse. I wouldn’t pay near as much for it unless you are very particular about the size increase.

      • I’m tossing up between the 38 and this for sim racing. Is the 38 really that bad when compared?

        • +3

Depends on your room environment, in a dim/dark room this looks significantly better but the difference isn't that big in a well lit room

        • Yeah I think the 38 is pretty high compromise in 2022 mostly cause it has really obnoxious local dimming that you cannot turn off.

  • +2

    this or C2 44'' for a desktop?"

    • +1

Depends on whether you use it for work. If you do the ABSL will drive you nuts

    • +2

I think you mean 42", and it depends on what your situation is. I went C2 personally due to inputs, resolution, and vertical space. I can still run ultra wide with black bars which on an OLED works out well as the black bars are completely off, which is less intrusive than on LED/LCD.

Dell panel is higher refresh rate (144hz/175hz) and is QD-OLED (there is a lot of info on this so maybe look into the benefits of each technology).

LG panel is higher resolution (4K) and has HDMI 2.1 inputs.

Auto dimming is an issue on LG (though I disabled it personally via the service menu - which may void warranty)

The fan noise may be an issue for some on the Dell (to the point where some people have ripped open the case voiding the 3 year warranty just to replace it).

LG only gives 1 year warranty (though given the purchase cost they should fix major issues out of warranty - replaced the panel on my previous 48" due to a deal pixel without argument at almost 2 years)

Dell gives you 3 years warranty which is peace of mind.

Price wise this is $1.5k on this deal, the C2 cost me $2k (I've seen it for $1800 though)

      • it's a bit hard to choose

I will spend a lot of time on it so the money is worth the price

however I'm in finance & accounting so I don't really need crystal clear panel or some sort, I just want to later on connect a Xbox to it to play some casual fifa so I'm leaning towards the C2 but still a bit hesitate to use a tv screen as a monitor

not sure what the downside is

        • +1

If you don't want a super glossy panel and didn't need the TV features you could grab the PG42UQ. Uses the same panel as the C2 but with a matte screen coating instead. I think they're $2299

          • @cille745: That ASUS looks like a much better choice than C2, if cost is not an issue.

Hopefully that price will drop a bit and it seems Scorptec is the only one selling it now.

            • @xenoic: I wouldn't say a better choice as much as subjective, I'd still choose the C2 if the pricing were identical myself. The PG42UQ is still not released though and while its release is imminent I think his pricing is too optimistic. The EU/US indicates around $2500 AUD if directly converted, UK pricing has it at around $2400. I'd personally guess anywhere between $2599 and $2799AUD once you factor in the Aus tax, but happy to be wrong.

Benefits for that panel are that it has a custom heatsink which is supposedly meant to allow the panel to stay cooler during use with the benefit being that they have disabled auto dimming out of the box. I personally question how relevant this is as I've disabled (as have many other users) the auto dimming on my C2, and having used it for 4 hours today already - it's still cool to the touch at the back including the panel itself. I disabled it on my 48" for around 1 year of use and saw no issues other than a dead pixel which was there since I opened the box, so not a result of the auto dimming.

Input wise the PG42UQ also has a DisplayPort, 2xHDMI 2.1 and 2xHDMI 2.0, I'd argue the 4xHDMI 2.1 on the C2 is better here, but down to use case I guess.

The PG42UQ also doesn't support Dolby Vision and lacks a tuner/apps for streaming, maybe not a dealbreaker, but I find having these to be very nice benefits.

There is an overclock to 138hz which is nice if it works as advertised and doesn't disallow any features while in use, but to me it's definitely not enough to justify losing the gloss coating, DV support, TV functionality and 2 extra HDMI 2.1 ports, or to justify the increase in price.

              • @boredofficeworker: Thanks for the insight. Let's hope the C2 42 will drop back to the sub $1,800 like it was couple months back.

The ROG 42" OLED pricing is up on Scorptec :
                https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…

                • +1

@xenoic: If that's legit then i'm pretty impressed with pricing. The US/UK are usually just a fraction below our RRP so that listing is a welcome surprise.

I'd say the C42 will drop again pretty soon, I sent a message to JB's online support citing Appliance Central's price of $2k and they were happy to drop theirs to match, plus dropped it further when I opted to pick up so it seems like there is plenty of wiggle room.

                  • @boredofficeworker: I can't wait to get onto the C2. Been scouting the prices for months!

It dropped in Aug but bumped back to RRP in many stores since last week :(

          • @cille745: Is it for sale yet? And is there an aus price guide? Cause I am having trouble believing an ASUS ROG product is going to cost only $2299.

            • @thesmartone1125: It's listed on Scorptec's website as $2299 and they're usually the most expensive. See below
              https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…

              • @cille745: cheers for the link mate, I am particularly interested in this one even though I have a C2 42" is because of the DP, since switching mac and pc on the c2 you tend to lose the 120hz on the mac side.

                • @thesmartone1125: Don't quote me but there's a certain limitation of the refresh rate it could get unless the monitor supports thunderbolt connection.

For instance, I can get up to 85Hz via HDMI to HDMI connection from my MBP 2022 to Alienware 38"

                  • @xenoic: Nah I was mostly interested in the the Asus’s DP 1.4, that way it’s possible to get 4k120 (TB to DP 1.4) at least on the monitor, since the hdmi on the 2021-22 MBPs are 2.0 hence limited to 4k60

                    • @thesmartone1125: Yep, mac is limited (for whatever stupid reason) to 4k60. If it was just the inbuilt HDMI port being v2.0 that would be another story but mac limits even thunderbolt to HDMI 2.1 adaptors to 60hz.

    • I recently returned my defective AW3423DW for an LG C2 (42in) and very happy to have made the swap. The 4K clarity is unbeatable for casual gaming, and the HDMI 2.1 for PS5/Xbox/PC@120hz is plenty for me. As a lifetime console gamer, it just feels more natural.

While the AW3423DW (especially with 2.25x DLDSR) is the better 'gaming experience', it suffers several manufacturing/QC issues at the moment. When paying nearly $2K for a monitor, it should be perfect.

Issues notwithstanding, you can't beat either: it's really a matter of preference and content priority.

      • thanks, what about text display? Is it the same on C2 as other desktop monitors?

        • +1

Personally, I think the text display on the C2 is bearable (certainly more so than the AW3423DW), but it does suffer from blue shift at any kind of angle against a white background. It took me all of 24 hours to get the shits with it, but fortunately I don't use it for productivity, and dark theme negates most of the impact.

I would still opt to use my old dual-1080p monitor setup to do any meaningful work in Word/Excel/Outlook.

  • +1

But why has nobody has posted the must have

    Thanks OP… Ordered 5

  • +1

I bought this last time it came on special and it is simply glorious for gaming. Played through Halo Infinite and Guardians of the Galaxy; the combination of QD-oled, ultra-wide, high refresh rate and HDR is incredible and a massive upgrade in my Acer X34.

    • how's the glare on the screen? This is my only concern with pulling the plug at the moment. I sit next to a window that doesnt get direct sunlight but its pretty bright.

My current Acer X34 works a treat with its matte screen…. little concerned about the OLED. My LG C1 upstairs is basically a mirror

      • +1

It's much less gossy than my LG E9 downstairs. There are reflections which I do notice when I look for them but my brain happily ignores them when I'm looking at content on the screen. Mine sits right next to a window and gets bright sunlight during the day.

      • +1

The anti-glare coating is violet in colour and a bit shiny. Better than matte in direct sunlight, but is not as good as the anti-glare coatings on the higher end TVs.

      • I primarily use this for gaming once the kids are in bed, so mainly at night. As such it’s not a concern for me. For what it’s worth, I have a window to the side, and another directly behind my searing position, and because the monitor is way brighter than the Acer X34, the reflections aren’t as much of a concern as I’d anticipated. If you need to use it to WFH the well-documented issues with text clarity would be a bigger drawback than reflections IMO (and it’s certainly not as bad as it sounds).

      • +1

The glare is controlled very well on this, it's much better than any other glossy screen so I wouldn't say it's distracting. Only issue is that because it lacks a polariser, all blacks turn grey in a bright room, making it look worse than other screens

    • Burn in risk?

  • Each time i see this on ozbargain it tempts me!
But I need to wait for a smaller 16:9 version to fit on my desk.

  • +3

Waiting for the 38" version of this…if there will ever be one.

  • 2 side by side would be nice

  • -3

You can get a good brand 55" OLED TV for the same price.

OLED + monitor = burn ins. Even if they shift the pixels. Explain to me how this is a good deal?

    • +1

      QD-oled, gsync ultimate, 175hz, hdr.

This is also a 34inch ultrawide. Which is good for gaming aspect ratio wise. A tv would be way too big on your desk and only casuals would play on a couch/tv setup, too big and slows down your aim.

This thing is in the high end of gaming monitors and there are cheaper options but this is a great monitor plus gaming monitor.

      • -4

Doesn't matter what your preferences for size of screen is. Fact is 34" for the same price as a 55" OLED TV is bad value no matter how you spin it. 175HZ is useless. Even 100HZ is overkill for most games.

The HDR better be prodigous and the "QD" and gsync better be gamechanging. I'm guessing it is not and that it basically looks like what you'd expect a 34" OLED screen to look.

      • +1

ppl on ozbargain used to claim a 4" iphone was the perfect size, any bigger you hold a brick to your head

and then the industry just gradually made everything bigger, hilarious stuff, ultimately most people will just buy what is advertised. you move a 50" tv back a bit and it'll look the same size, plus probably way better for you eyes too.

its funny the comment about casuals, because look at what actual csgo pros are doing, they're still doing 4:3 tn high refresh with low res for max fps, they wouldn't touch 'features' like hdr, ultrawide, gsync because all useless for them, whats the use in immersion when u ded.

        • Yeah I know what CS go pros are doing. But there is a middle ground believe it or not.

          TVs are for casual doodoos.

You can't fit a 55inch tv far enough away on a desk.

          • @RI4V4N: plenty of 120hz+ TVs out there by now including oled

why ppl keep wanting to put tv on desk, like you can just use stand/mount behind the desk. or just game on your couch very comfy

            • @abctoz: Gaming on your couch is casual stuff. How do you even get sweaty.

The colours and aspect ratio of this are also really good for work. Hacing multiple docs up or things like adobe/blender etc

      • Worth noting it doesn't have DSC and if you wish to use without chroma subsampling then you are limited to 144hz. (I'd personally make this sacrifice though)

Having a TV for a display comes down to how far you sit from it and the size. If you are using a 55" at less than 1m distance is going to be pretty horrible, but at just over 1m for my 48" I found it great, and having moved to a 42", i've actually had to move it forward a fraction. Plenty of people wall mount a 55" allowing them to sit further back relative to the screen.

It also doesn't take you any less time to move across the 3840x2160 pixels when looking at an 88" screen than it does on a 27" 4k display, as the movement is relative to resolution not screen size, unless you are modifying your mouse movement to compensate.

        • You don’t need to use chroma subsampling, runs at 8bit dithered at 175hz and going by the reviews the difference isn’t perceptible

    • You get a 3 year burn in warranty…

    • +1

Everyone seems to keep warning about OLED burn-in, but I've run my 2017 LG B7 for 10k hours and also as a WFH monitor full-time since 2020 with no issues.

I can't see going it wrong unless you use it at absurd brightness levels.

      • Isn't burn in from turning off and on..long time running is actually the true secret to avoid burn in and find the meaning of life

        • No, burn in is from cumulative usage of the pixels, the brighter the more strenuous.

      • -1

what brightness you use? they definitely get burn-in but i imagine if you lower brightness its much less impact

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/real-life-oled-burn-in-test

        • +2

It was far more prevalent on earlier panels and in the case of the above link, they tested leaving one channel on the entire time which is literally the worst case scenario. Heck, I've seen LCD burn-in with this kind of abuse, so it's not really indicative of real-world use.

I know having bought a C7 at launch (2017) and using it for countless hours of gameplay, with many games like breath of the wild eating into 300+ hours with huds, having then gifted it on to my mother who now uses it daily, burn-in is non-existent on that display, some 5 years on and the panel still impresses me when I visit her and watch something.

It's something to be mindful of as with any purchase, the TV requires care if you seek longevity, just that it's a topic which has been overblown heavily. It also doesn't help that you had Samsung stoking the flames in an attempt to push inferior tech in years past. With the current mitigation strategies in place, varying content, and allowing refresher to run, burn-in isn't really something most users will encounter within the typical lifespan of a panel. Rtings even says that on their conclusions.

    • This is a different OLED technology to the panels LG has been churning out for the TV market and I think Samsung is adopting for TVs. I know LG TVs used as monitors have been seeing some burn in but I gathered that these Alienware models won't get it. The latest version LG OLED TVs are made for gaming but I know that is not fool proof either. I know it is completely different technology but just as an example, the pro model iphones since the iphone X have been OLED and there is no burn in on those. I don't think you can take it as a given any longer that burn in on OLEDs is guaranteed, particularly if the whole industry is in agreement that this is where PC monitors is headed, with new technology and panel production options.

      • +1

The reality is it doesn't matter too much which brand you use, if you are buying a modern OLED and take care not to leave static elements on the screen in the same position for hours and hours on end, then it's not going to be much of an issue.

LG has been "churning out" decent TV's for a while to the point where Samsung spent a considerable amount of time running scare campaigns against OLED, going as far as to call their own TV's "QLED". This was all done while they didn't have the facilities to compete against LG in this space after they had invested heavily into LCD based tech. The reality is they made a mistake by not going in on OLED earlier, but thanks to their underhanded tactics were able to keep selling their inferior tech until … oh funny that, "check out our brand new OLED". If you believe this panel is immune to burn-in simply by virtue of being made by Samsung you are mistaken though.

Not to say Samsung have done a decent job with their first efforts into larger OLED panels, largely thanks to the expertise they have in the mobile display division along with their R&D into LCD panels and while I think they did a shitty thing to try stop OLED adoption while they weren't the ones producing it, I guess that's the nature of business when some much skin is in the game. I welcome competition in the space as it will benefit us far more than them investing in more smear campaigns.

And there are plenty of iPhone X's which have burn in.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago for a similar price. Very happy with the monitor.
