We call it MagicCrow in Australia

    • +6

I know this is a joke but the birder in me has to let you know that we have both crows and ravens here

      • +4

What are you raven on about?

      • +2

Yeah yeah… thought I’d have a crack at least. No need to crow about it.

        • +1

Man, you should be charged with attempted murder…

  • So how do you use this on a plane does it have built in battery because it says no external power needed but it also says comes with power adapter .?

    • +2

Provided whatever you're using it with can provide enough power over USB C, you're good. Else you can use external power adaptor or power brick etc.

    • I’m yet to try the combo on a plane but it works surprisingly well with the steam deck, although I would recommend external power of some sort to have any chance of a decent gaming session.

  • Ok thanks so it's 5 volt input .

    • +2

Yep so can be powered off a laptop or any power bank

  • Has anyone used this and any feedbacks?

      hi

i have 2 different size/brand portable monitors and they work really well when you are on the road. Maybe a big squishy to run a laptop and a separate screen on a plane though.

I've purchased an additional 0.5metre usb c to usb c cables (make sure you get one specifically for video data) as the ones that come with the monitor are too long. Ive never needed to run and external power support to these monitors.

      • Thanks.

I have one. It's the only one I've used, so I can't compare it to anything. It does everything I want it too, so no complaints. It's very thin and light. You may want to pick up longer shorter cables depending on your use. You want USB-C with data. I also picked up from Aliexpress a USB-C reverse adaptor so the cables don't stick out the side.

Thanks, ordered. Anyone found a way to mount these in a car for the kids in the back to look at together?

    • +1

You want to look for a "car headrest tablet mount" that fits a screen size of 16 inches or so. Unfortunately these seem to be quite rare, most of them only fit 13 inches max it seems.

  • How might one connect this to a Nintendo Switch per the OP description? Are there just cables that allow display output via the USB C port? I wasn't sure if you needed some proprietary Nintendo gizmo.

    • +2

      Nope just works.

  • I’m trying to decide between the MagicRaven and this https://www.amazon.com.au/cocopar-USB-C-Portable-Monitor-Com…

From what I can tell the differences are
    MagicRaven $98.07 - 1000:1, 300 nits, OTG port

Cocopar $129.99 - 1200:1, 280 nits, (Free protective case, desk mount or HDMI cable upon contacting them)

$30 difference worth the extra image contrast, minus 20nits and free desk mount (valued at $13)?

    • The Cocopar only has 85% sRGB colour gamut so that's worse than the MagicRaven's 100% sRGB coverage. I wouldn't bother with the Cocopar.

To me the only thing the Cocopar has going for it is that it has a VESA mount on the back, whereas the MagicRaven doesn't seem to have that (as far as I can tell).

Thanks for the info and help!

I didn’t read the description properly and missed seeing the 100% sRGB on the MagicRaven so it’s a no brainer now

Listing pictures show two holes for mounting on the MagicRaven but according to the reviews it applies to every other model except the 15.6” 1080p

    • I have the MagicRaven, and it also comes with a protective case. No complaints.

      • Thanks! I’ve ordered based on all the good feedback I’m reading

    Awesome device. Have two!

  • Nabbed one. Thanks OP!

  • i got one today and im underwhelmed on the colors. anybody has reco for settings? cheers

    • +1

Mine is default and looks great. Maybe upped the brightness.

  • Prime is required for $98.07. Otherwise it's $134.98

  • Hello everyone, just got mine today. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. I am running this with a steam deck and am using a 2 port dock (power in and power + display out) from my steam deck. I plan to use this on the plane with some 3D printed hooks so I can mount it to the back of the seat.

    • Wow a lot of effort and tech for a bigger screen on a plane.
