  • I'm so stuck on whether to get this or the phillips lattego 2200

I personally didn't like the lattego. I had an issue with the grinder which impacted the taste of the coffee. Could've been doing something wrong, but luckily Amazon let me return it.

It could've been that specific unit or I could be an idiot unable to work it, but just giving my 2c.

If it helps, internally the brew units are basically all the same, so all produce the same end product.

I really like mine. I'm not a coffee snob and it's my first coffee machine and had it for a month.

Been trying to get my Delonghi auto to produce a decent coffee for about 8 months. They cant do a proper fine grind espresso, and the coffee they do produce is ok at best.

But just had a break through

While its grinding the shot, move the grinder setting from coarse (say 6), then to 2 for a few seconds, then back to 5 or 6 at the end.

    Finally produced a decent shot.

If you just chose coarse, you dont get a full extraction.

If you chose just fine, water channels to the side and doesnt go through the coffee.

Yes, there is a trade-off with convenience. Won't be the best coffee but will be a damn consistent one. Even at my local caffe they make damn good ones, but sometimes they make shockers.
Recommend you turn the strength dial to max, and calibrate the water volume if you have not done already. OOTB for a single shot mine was like 20ml but really should be less than 10ml for a single shot. Takes seconds to get to your desired level of perfection and it remembers.
I think you also need to find the right beans, nothing oily, I have found that fine on this isn't really find so just leave it on fine.
I've tried a few from the supermarket and just didn't work well with this machine, Aldi ones seem fine. But I found a few local roasters that deliver and no issues with their beans.
As per the manual (and I concur from my testing) when you adjust the grinder (which you can only do when it's grinding), takes about 2-3cups before it settles into the dialed in position. So if your the type of person aiming for perfection, takes a lot of coffees!!!

      • I pulled my grinder apart and put back together a bit finer, so literally know it inside an out. If I chose 3 or less its super fine and will choke the machine completely (using Aldi Brazillian single origin). Not sure about the 2-3 cups to settle bit. There isn't that much surplus before the shoot to the brew unit (maybe half a puck max). My variable grinded pucks definitely have a variation in grind within the puck. The coffee came out much darker and at a much slower yet consistant rate. As for adjusting, yep, just a plastic shaft on the grind adjuster, so if you want to go finer, then make sure its moving. This machine is about a 4:1 (go less to play safe). So around 35mls per 10g shot. The double cup button is a total waste (it just puts through extra water). So you end up with 2 cups of bitter juice.

I hopped into my time machine and brought back some comments from the future to save typing

"not automatic need to foam milk separately"
"not as good as my [insert name of machine that costs two to four times as much]"
"no true coffee aficionado would ever buy this over a manual"
"coffee is all I have for a personality and this machine's mere existence triggers me"

    • You okay?

      • +1

I'm awesome because I have one of these machines and a personality that doesn't revolve around bean water

    • +1

funny that. i am looking for a capsule machine replacement…

    • Any machines that do good milk foaming automatically?

      • I hear the phillips lattego is pretty good for the milk part.

      • +1

Replaced a broken fully automatic with this years ago, far less cleaning.
Fully automatic is easier though if there is more than one coffee drinker in the house, but it's just me and my 2 cups a day.
