[eBay Plus] 0% Variable Fees on 5 Sales by Eligible Sellers @ eBay (Activation Required)

3310

It's back! 0% Variable Fees on 5 Sales from 30 August to 30 September.
Check your inbox or click the "Accept Offer" link in the T&Cs page to see if you qualify. Activation is open now.

The Promotion entitles Eligible Sellers to 0% variable fees, which is a component of Final Value Fees (as defined on eBay.com.au), on 5 sales during the Promotion Period on Eligible Listings.

“Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:

  • newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);
  • in multi-quantity or single quantity fixed price or auction format only; and
  • not listed in one of the Excluded Categories (as defined below).

The variable fees will be discounted directly from the eBay seller fees applicable to the Eligible Listings when they are sold.
This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period.
eBay reserves the right to cancel or change the offer at any time.

    • Use 'sell similar' to relist, this will give them new item numbers and they should be eligible.

In the last promo there were reports that ending the items manually and relisting them doesn't work.

      • Can anyone confirm this? ended then relisted items always have new item numbers in my experience

        • thanks guys, so now what i did , I clicked on sell similar, keep photos , then saved it for later, went back and deleted the old one, then used the saved one to List as new. hopefully it will work

        • Yeah sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned item numbers, I assumed that was the difference but after checking you do get a new number when manually relisting.

Check the previous June promo, here's a couple of comments about how relisting worked for them.

Of course if someone else wants to double confirm I would also be happy to know.

        • I always “sell similar” instead or relisting. It copies all the pictures and description across when you do it so it’s not any more work

          • +2

@FireRunner: It is a bit, relisting can be done in bulk with a few clicks. Using sell similar involves some clicking and waiting for pages to load for every item, it's not bad for 5 items but if you start doing more it adds up.

        • OK, I can pretty much also confirm that manually ended and relisted items are not eligible. I just sold a low value item under this promo, and full final value fees were charged. There's no reason to expect any differences in the terms between the two promos.

          • +1

@Hiphopopotamus: @bitcoinorbust It does say in the T&C of this promo (extract in the description above):

“Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:
            newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);

            • @Buy2Much: Good catch. I never considered that as relisting through GTC, but that also makes sense.

          • @Hiphopopotamus: Can I ask if your sold item was relisted in bulk or one by one? Just wondering if the latter might work…

            • +1

@achromatic: Bulk. One by one should make no difference, as that will still fall under relisted under GTC.

For that listing you were charged full seller fees for, did you use 'sell similar'?

              • @Hiphopopotamus: No, I did a bulk relist. I did ask Ebay CS about a specific item I listed using singular Sell Similar (that hasn't sold yet) and was told it wouldn't qualify either - but what actually happens when it sells might be different to what CS says

                • @achromatic: Yeah, eBay CS isn't exactly known as a wealth of knowledge. Read below.

Relisting one by one also isn't much if any faster than 'sell similar' anyway.

        • +1

Confirmed my manually ended and relisted item didn't get the discount.

      • Has Sell Similar worked successfully for anyone? I just had a chat with Ebay CS who agreed to do a one time fee credit for my relisted item that sold (promotion didn't work), but they said neither the Sell Similar or Relist options should be used in order to qualify.

        • +3

Usual nonsense answers from eBay customer service nuff-nuffs, told as if they know (but are wrong).
Yes, 'sell similar' definitely works. I sold something yesterday made from and old listing with 'sell similar' and it worked fine.
My promotion counter moved down and now shows 1 sold/4 left.
          Ebay customer service = useless.

Woo-Hoo!! I love saving on fees

Perfect timing for the annual iPhone sale after the new models are released in September! Thanks eBay

  • +2

You bloody legend. Thank you. Needed this badly.

  • Perfect timing. Have a few phones to sell.

  • +1

    Worked for me ,thank you.

  • If you have a few existing listings I'm pretty sure you can list them as new items (not relisting) and these would qualify?

  • I got one promo that's 250k items listed every month for free ( selling fees still apply)…along side this offer and I just listed something and it's using the FN'n 250k promo and not this one I am not even a shop, wonder why I got such a huge promo ….hope they credit if my item sells

    • +2

That's normal, when the item is sold, then the promo starts counting down.

    • Have you sold anything yet? Did the counter move to the 5 free listings? Thanks.

      • I registered and have listed and sold one item and the seller fees were rebated back and I was only charged 30c for the transaction. My eBay shows I have 4 listing eligible now

  • Not available. You suck eBay.

    • Are you an active eBay Plus member? Should work fine if you are.

  • What is this thing about meeting the minimum performance standards for selling on eBay during the duration of this offer.
Visit your Seller Dashboard to confirm your account is still eligible for this offer before listing.
Do you need to meet some sort of selling history metrics before you are eligible ? Sounds sketchy..

    • No it just means your account can't have anything that puts it in a "Below Standard" status (e.g. unresolved return cases, excessive negative feedback). If you haven't run into any issues selling over the previous year then your status will be fine.

  • Thanks, had to activate the offer though email

    OMG!!!!!

I just sold an item today - and got charged FVF.

    1. I accepted the offer
    2. I waited until 30 Aug
    3. I ended my listings
    4. I used "Sell Similar"

    Got charged FVF.

Hopped onto Chat, and this is the response I got:

Please allow me to explain when you sell the similar item that does not gets eligible for this concern, The newly listed items refers to that this item was never sold by you before and you listed it for the very first time. It may be a misunderstanding I am not blaming you for that , however I am requesting you a refund for this item fees."

    OMG!!!!!

So can't use "Sell Similar" then?

    • I think the rep made that up. The purpose of "Sell Similar" is for people to sell similar stuff if they have more than one. So technically you can say that it's a different item that you never sold before. I did that previously and it was ok (item that ended and I listed again using "Sell Similar"). Nothing in their T&Cs said otherwise:

“Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:
      newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);

      • +1

If reading that “LITERALLY” then technically any listing that you “manually” end and then click “relist” should also qualify wouldn’t you agree?

To break up that condition it reads:

1/ They cannot be relisted through ‘Good til Cancelled’

        AND

2/ They cannot be relisted through auto-renewal

        ——

Anything that is manually ended and then clicking on “Relist” is neither of the 2.

    • Some support agents are SO dodgy it's unbelievable.
One tried to weaponise the fees I had credited last month (as they should've been automatically) as a reason to not credit this month.
Still fighting. What clowns. And the T&Cs are rather vague.

      • +1

I think it is part of their stagey to be as obstructionist as possible.
The more frustrated you get the less likely you are to follow up and get what you are entitled to.
I make a game of it, stay cool calm and collected but keep contacting support until it is resolved.

In my case they decided it was easier to ban me selling than solve the problems with their promotion offers.

        • What reason did they give for banning you?

          • @proudwanderer: Refused to give a reason - I had 570 sales, 100% feedback and no seller defects.
Just stated they no longer wished to do business with me.

        • I make a game of it, stay cool calm and collected but keep contacting support until it is resolved.

Problem is they have enough agents to combat any complaints; they simply don't care and things go nowhere.

    • Just out of curiosity, when you listed that item, did it use up one of the slots for the promo?

In Seller Hub under Promotional Offers, you will see the offer there with Used/Left.

In past promos, items listed always gobbled up one of the promo slots and recorded the item number under Used.

When I listed my items, it didn't track under Used. I chatted with CS rep and they agreed something was wrong with the system and said that my items were eligible for the promo. They then said to contact them if an item sells and they will credit the FVF for me.

      • No nothing is wrong.

Promo mechanism has changed from how it used to work.

The slot will only be "used up" once the item sells, and not when it is listed.

The advantage of this is that - you can technically list 100 items, and the first 5 items that sell within the promo date will receive the promo - and counter drops down each time.

The disadvantage is that you need to be strategic in the items you list. So if you list 5x $1000 items and 95x $1 items - you could potentially waste the promo if 5x $1 items sell before any of the $1000 items.

        • +1

Another thing you could do to maximise the promo that you couldn't do before is:

          • Say you list your item on 01/09 - first day of the promo

          • By 30/09 - last day of the promo - item still hasn't sold

So you end your listing, and relist it (sell similar) on the last day. It should carry over to the next month if it was listed within the promo period.

Therefore, you have effectively taken advantage of 2 months exposure for your item to sell and still receive the promo.

Couldn't do that previously where the promo is attached to the listing and used up the slot immediately upon listing.

        • That's good to know about this change. Haven't received a promo offer for a long time now until this one. Will start ending some listing and list them again.

        • Wow that's great. So much better this way.

        • Thanks for explaining

  • So I had an item listed before the promotion. Activated the promo, cancelled the auction, relisted with changed title, description and price. Was charged full fee after sale.
The first eBay rep tried to convince me that I had to accept offer before I list an item. Like I am an idiot who didn't do it.
The next one stated that any renewals of any kind (auto or manual) make listing ineligible for the promotion. They referred to “Eligible Listings” means item listings that are:
newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period" part and completely ignored the "(i.e. they cannot be relisted items through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal)" part. The refunded me the fee in the end, though.

    • They just make up whatever comes to mind.

      My rep said (see above):

The newly listed items refers to that this item was never sold by you before and you listed it for the very first time. It may be a misunderstanding I am not blame

He/she even pointed out that I had sold that “item” months ago.

Meaning I can only get a FVF refund only once for any type of “item”

So if I sold a game a month ago and then sell the same game again I won’t get a FVF refund coz it is not eligible.

      Go figure……

      • He/she even pointed out that I had sold that “item” months ago.

Their rules say "eligible listings", not "eligible items". Was so much easier last time with this promo.

    • Also regarding them manually refunding you the fee … apparently they can only do a limited amount of manual refunds per year.

I don’t know the number, but for arguments sake let’s say a dozen.

Meaning after they’ve “manually refunded” you a dozen times the system locks it up and there is no chance for them to process any more manual refunds again until the next year.

True or not? I have no idea. But that’s what my rep warned when I complained just like you and got a manual refund.

  • What happen if your Ebay Plus ends before the promo and you don't renew?
Will you get charge for FVF?

    • I would say that once the promo is activated whilst you still had eBay Plus active, and eBay Plus ends before the promo ends, you should still qualify for the promo.

But this is eBay we're talking about - Anything goes…….

And as we all know, each rep makes up their own interpretation of the rules - kinda like monopoly where everyone has their own house rules….

    • If there is anything they can point at to disqualify you they will use it - even if it's not spelt out in the terms and conditions.
There is no appeal and their decision is final.

  • I haven't sold on Ebay in a little while, so I'm not familiar with the variable format/managed payments they now use. If the buyer uses Paypal to pay me, will that still incur fees? Specifically for this offer for the free listings.

    cheers

    • +1

Sellers now get paid through managed payments on Ebay. You will need to provide photo ID and bank account details to use it. It doesn't matter how the buyer pays you - you'll receive the funds from your sale through Ebay's managed payments system direct to your bank account. If you've got a fee promo active, Ebay will deduct fees accordingly.

As mentioned above, you will want to create a new listing or sell similar for the promo to work (don't use relist).

Edit: Ebay fixed fee is 30c for reference

      • Gotcha, cheers!!

  • hello. just want to double check.

if i list something today (after activating the offer), and then choose buy now (and allow offer) means i will be entitle to the promo until the item sold (doesnt matter when, because buy now doesnt have day options like auction style)

    am i correct?

    • +1

      That is correct.

The fees will be waived when your item sells.

      • okies will try to list via sell similar
i just want to get rid of them quickly so i will reduce the price accordingly basically the buyers will get the benefit.

        • It worked that way in the past (promo applies till item sold or expired) but like investment ads, “past performance should not be considered as future performance”. If it does not track, hard to argue with their chat support on the current promo wordings. ‘Best you cancel at end of month if not sold, and then list under the new month’s promo.

  • Confirming if I list something before this offer expires and it sells after Sep 30, no fees still apply, correct?

    cheers

    • In theory - yes. It should behave that way, and is my experience with last month's (August) promo items selling after it ticked over to this month (September).

But like Buy2Much said, “past performance should not be considered as future performance” - This is especially true with eBay.

If the promo waiver doesn't end up working, and you get charged the fees, then be prepared for an argument with their chat support —— who will make up anything that pops up in their imagination on interpretation of the promo "wording" to try and slap you away!

      • Cheers proudwanderer and Buy2Much!

    • The terms and conditions state “ This promotion only applies to the variable fees on Eligible Listings that are sold during the Promotion Period”
Guess it depends how they define sold ie listed or actually sold

  • Can I also theoretically list items tomorrow & the end date is tomorrow night at midnight. Or do I need to get it in before midnight tonight?

    • just list between the promo period.

      • Is it including the 30th? so I can list tomorrow
