Region 2 DVDs wont play in a lot of Australian DVD players unless they are multi region players.

This is not true. Region 2 and 4 are the exact same. You do not need a multi region player for R2 DVDs. This also applies to games and blu ray.

      • +1

Some titles are Region 2+4, but a region 2 DVD will not play on a region locked, Region 4 player. All good if region free, or selectable region.

True for most games and blu-ray, but not DVDs. Region 2 won't play on an Australian player unless it is a multi-region player.

However, that being said, there are a fair few UK discs that are both R2 & R4 (BBC titles, Universal Pictures titles), as both countries are PAL, and it saves the cost of re-authoring the disc for each region.

Edit - bah, Steptoe beat me to it by a few minutes :)

        • Exactly Mr Devil, there seems to be some confusion between blu-ray regions and dvd regions going on.

Blu-Ray = Australia in Region B, same region as the UK.

Most Blu-Ray players in Australia are locked to Region B, so cannot play Region A discs from the US.

DVD = Australia is in Region 4, UK is in Region 2.

A lot of DVD players in Australia are multi-region, and can play both Region 2 and 4. If it is locked, it is locked to Region 4, and cannot play Region 2 discs.

BTW This is a different set from the 3 DVD Discovery Channel Adventure Collection sets (the artwork is very similar, but they are listed as having 3 DVDs not 18, and there is a "3 DVD" sign on the box). Those offers only contain a single "Introduction" disc for each series. This set has the full seasons of each series, and has 18 DVD's.

  • Also from ZAVVI, but cheaper postage if you buy more than one item together.
