what do you call a duck without leg? duckless

      • A Ginnivan

        • Quack quack! All duck no dinner :)

    • No mate. Ducks swim or float.

    these are seriously ducking good!
Comes out really well in air fryers

We usually microwave ours, but now we have an aifryer, what time and temp? TY in advance

      • +1

Do you do chicken roasts in microwave too?

With my cheapo aldi airfyrer: 200C for 14mins, top tray closest to the fan for extra crispy skin.

        • Thank you! Will try it in my air fryer

      • ~15 mins at 200c is what I did before

      • Do you have an oven?

    • Yes sir! Last time these were out of stock at my local when I received my air fryer. Bought the more expensive breast fillets. First time cooking duck. Amazingly good!!

I looked at this and thought packaged heart attack. But when I went to the luvaduck web site I saw 9.1g of fat per 100g. That is surprisingly good!

    • +1

What I do is from the first pack save the gravy and put it in the fridge. Then you can collect or discard the fat. Then freeze the saved gravy (without the fat) and use it for the next time I have the duck and repeat again

      • What do you then do with the gravy? Sorry never had this before…

        • +1

I meant that I use the gravy with the fat removed for the second duck.

The gravy is tasty but I don’t want the fat and the easiest way to get rid of the fat is to let it set in the fridge and then scrape it off leaving me with fat free gravy which I freeze and then use next time or for other dishes/meals

        • I keep the majority of the left over fat/oil/gravy and stir-fry my vegetables in it. Not as healthy anymore ofc but I use it as a substitute to the oil, and it's much tastier

          • @sakurakiks: yeah dunno about this plan to reuse gravy/fat, but I believe they say duck fat makes the most delicious roast potatoes

          • @sakurakiks: Try this:

Add water, leave to set in fridge until fat sets.

Scrape fat off the surface, melt and coat cut potatoes with rosemary + s&p. Roast to golden brown.

Simmer remaining gravy / water, thicken with a bit of slurry and season with s&p and/or chicken bouillon.

Once potatoes roasted, add cheese, broil in oven until cheese is toasted, then pour gravy on top.

he still thinks eating animal fats will clog his arteries.

Put down the donuts and chocolate bars my guy

      • Excess fats will clog your arteries. I try to limit my fat intake to 20% of what I eat.

        • -8

Low saturated fat diets lead to extremely low levels of testosterone in men. That’s why we have so many soyboys in western society now. Humans have consumed animal fat as a source of energy for thousands of years.

@Justsendit: And prior to the last couple of centuries, rarely lived passed 40. Stupid argument for paleo crap.

        • dont worry george s the pollution in melbourne will kill you instead

        • +1

Not the fats, its the sugars, and the starches which turn into sugars in the body that clog the arteries. The manufacturers know this, but hide it under total carbs. Thats why when you buy products proudly displaying say 2g of sugar per 100g of product but check the back of the packaging and it says, for example 18g carbs per 100g, sugars 2g
you are actually getting 18g sugar per 100.
Thats equivalent to 4 and 1/2 teaspoons of sugar

    thanks bought 7

  • anyone know how long is the expiry date on this? thanks

    • +2

Months, to the point you worry how they do it.

Honestly, I think my last batch had 3+ months expiry date. Makes it easy to load up.

      • +1

Same, bought today. Expiry is like 14th Nov.

      • This right here, i've got a Peking Duck pack in the fridge right now that I bought 3 weeks ago, has a best before of 22nd December.

How is that right, even vac sealed I can't see how a piece of meat can last that long just refridgerated.

        • +1

Been cooked so it is pasteurized I guess then further preserved in its own fat.

      • +4

Preservation technique is called "confit". Practically it's limited to goose, duck and pork.

The excess of fat seals out the air/oxygen that bacteria need to reproduce.

    • Can you go past expiry date if freezing?

  • +3

Better than the coles orange flavor… this one has less flavouring

  • +1

Couldn't find it at Woolies branches around Hobart :(

  • Only four left at my local this arvo. Wonder if they will restock or that's it.

  • Bought 3 tonight, cooked one pack for dinner and made Peking duck style sauce with the gravy, perfect!

    • Can you share the recipe?

      • Ahh I just tried to replicate the sauce from the Peking duck store near my place by taste.
It is just as simple as water, sugar, soy sauce, salt, ground black pepper, duck gravy and fat, and cornflour for thickening.

  • Bought 3 and cooked 1 for tonight's dinner. It was perfect. Easily cooked on the air fryer at 190c for 15 mins with lowering the temp to 160 in the last 3 minutes to not burn the duck.

    • Tried it also with the air fryer for the same time and temp but did not lowered the temp on the last 3mins, it still turned out perfectly golden.

  • Holy duck what a bargain

  • Is this a serving size for one?

    • Feeds 2 in our household. Not a big meal, but with some sided sufficient.

  • +1

These are excellent, I luve em, they are excellent, they tend to sell out fast though locally ., And no, the fats wont kill your heart. ( but carbs / sugars / starches will.)
( Dont eat both in your diet unless you want to be in the same sorry state that many in their 50s and 60s are in.. )

    • Nailed it, might be the best health advise I have seen on this forum.

  • guess I'll DUCK in to Woolworths to check out this special

last time I got the half-price duck ?breast it crisped up pretty tasty

not like home cooking, but better than your average premasticated pre-cooked stuff from the supermarket freezer

  • +1

These are already cooked so you are really just heating up and crisping. We normally scrape out the white duck fat from the pack and chuck that in with some potatoes/carrots first up in the oven, then after 30-40 mins throw the cooked duck legs in to heat up. Makes for an easy meal. Best thing is the long expiry of them. I still have 4 left in the fridge from last 1/2 price deal some months back

  • Can you freeze these?

    • yep. the duck has been cooked and then vacuum sealed. We freeze the excess packs although they seem to come on sale every 3 or so months.
