  • I'm an Australian permanent resident but UK passport. It says Australian ID required which I don't have. Anyone done this before and did it work? Or should I go in-store?

    • no can't get it working. License or passport… License because change address sticker on back is not included and passport apparently not very clear…

      • Was yours non Aus ID?

    • Australian driving licence should be fine

      • I don't have Aus ID. I'm a PR though which is the requirement but so is Aus ID.

        • haven't you considered getting a Learner's permit ? my missus got one just for ID purpose.

        • If you're PR then get an Aussie driver licence. Probably not in time for this deal, but why wouldn't you do it?

  • 420 trade in value for a s21 5g, is it worth upgrading?

    • Nope.

    • S21 5G will probably sell for $600 on gumtree and facebook easily.

      • What about s22?

      • That much? They were selling brand new for barely over that in recent deals.

  • +1

Thought I would rather this than my S21FE I got on the weekend for $616 from Officeworks… then I realised this didn't have wireless charging. I think I'd rather keep my S21FE

    • +1

whats the appeal with wireless charging? ive never used it

      • +1

I use it mainly in the car. Or at the office.
But otherwise if I've got access to fast charging I wouldn't use it. I just prefer having the choice

    • How did you manage that??

  • Is it likely that there will be trade-in deals for the pixel 6 or 6 pro later this year?

  • Is it only for the 5g model?

  • 450 for iPhone XS 64G, is that worth upgrading?

  • I'm surprised that many are still keen in the Pixel 6 series considering how poorly Google handled the softwares of them. Hopefully there won't be too much drama going forward.

    • I just can't stand the aesthetics of Android 12. Hate what they did to the notification menu with the massive buttons etc

  • This guy had issue with the 6a overheating during video recording https://youtu.be/XV3ys9vm8Nc?t=363

  • +2

Ahhh it's always only the 128gb models which are on sale. Need 256gb or more!

    • +2

Think the Pixel 6a only comes in 128gb, no 256gb option.

    • +1

      Need 256gb or more!

      What for?

  • Forgive my ignorance, but how does it start at 7am if the stores don’t open until 9am? If its online then how do they honour the credit and validate the trade in phone? Cheers

    • +3

It's a third party company working with JB Hi-Fi that handles the trade in, I believe the website "opens" from 7am. Once you confirm your phone is working and functional, they will then email you a gift card of the trade in value you agreed too. They will also email you a coupon for the extra $250 off which you can use in the transaction online. You then need to post the phone to Square Trade up who will then honour the credit. If you don't send your phone or if the phone is not what you stated, they will charge it back to your credit card.

      • +1

Thanks very much for the info, appreciate it!

  • +2

Can someone point me in the direction of an "ANDRIOD DEVICE"?

    • Ha ha saw that too. Amateurs. Here is a +1 to balance the neg

      • Thanks, much appreciated!

  • It doesn't say what kind of phone is considered for $250 voucher trade in

    • +1

anything that is over $10 in value

      list here https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/

      • The website is actually closed after 11pm…

        • Well I don't know about you but I certainly don't want to be handling trade in requests past 11pm on a weeknight, whether I have a complicated system of servers to do it on my behalf or not!

  • Getting $130 for my pixel 4a 5g.
Would it be worth shifting to 6a 5g at 749-250-130= $369?

Also anyone knows 6a5g also supports unlimited google photos storage at normal res?

    • -1

Why would you sell your 4a for 130$. I would give you $140.

      • +6

And are you also giving him a $250 voucher for JBHifi?

        • he said yes

    • No unlimited storage.

Would it be worth it? Wait for the full reviews and then you need to determine if the features that are improved outweigh the cost and whatever downsides come with the new handset. One thing that you are guaranteed to get is more future software updates and a new 2 year warranty. Other than that, if any of the upgrades are worth it is up to you.

      • Thanks !

Probably will wait a little for the reviews. Also the current one is refurbished already as have claimed warranty on the original one so this is not bad at $369 with another 2 years of warranty for a new set.

      • +1

AFAIK no phone has unlimited photo storage anymore except the original Pixel

        • +2

Apparently all phones up to P5 have unlimited in storage saver mode.

          • @Windows98: That is noticeably different IMO. I fully back up anything I actually want, the things I don't are just memes and random screenshots so it doesn't matter if the quality dips

  • Can someone explain why OP said phone price itself is not a deal at $749? Most places are selling it around the $1k mark isnt it?

    • That's the Pixel 6 that sells for $999. This is a deal for the Pixel 6a which is a more budget version of the 6.

      • ahhh got it - missed that.

So the rrp for 6a is looking like it's going to be $749?

        • Yep looks like it, $749 on the Google store as well

      • There was a deal for Pixel 6 = $704 few days back, now it is $729 which could be a deal too

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711335

  • I was kinda considering this until I read that it doesn't have wireless charging… that's a deal breaker for me because of how often I currently use wireless charging while at work etc

    • Maybe can consider this

      • Any feedback on whether these actually work well?

      • That's a decent hack but I don't think it's worth it. I use an s10e at the moment and the only real reason I'm considering a new phone is for ongoing android/security updates.
As long as I don't lose any features I would be happy, I also liked the idea of going back to "stock" android - at least not having the Samsung pre-installed apps when I end up using google ones anyway
Edit: ufs 3.1 storage is the other reason I would like to get a new phone

  • Hmmm I'm considering upgrading from my S20 Ultra. Will be $150 after trade in and bonus.. nothing really wrong with the current S20 Ultra, just figured I'm at the 2.5 year mark with it and might stay having some issues soon.

Specs wise on paper it seems like a side step / slight step down.

Anyone else changed from a higher end flagship like the S20 Ultra to the 6?

    • Better to get an s22 for abit more when the 500 dollar promo is back

  • +2

Any thoughts on trading a Pixel 6 for this Pixel 6a? Or am I better off selling the Pixel 6 and buy this?

I'm really struggling with the Pixel 6 size / weight, and I always like the "a" versions better. I had a 3a that I only stopped using because the screen cracked.

    • +2

and I always like the "a" versions better.

Same here. The a versions seem to skip all the expensive stuff I don't care about and just offer a good value phone. They are offering me $60 for my old cracked 3aXL so add in the $250 bonus and that gets me a brand new 6a for $439.

  • +1

Pixel 3 is worth $50 trade in credit. With $250 bonus, this is $300 total value.

Pixel 3 is $200 from ebay. Could use this to achieve at least $100 saving from 6a if you have nothing else suitable.

    • What about 3a? Worth anything?

      • What about 3a? Worth anything?

I just traded my 3aXL with cracked screen and faulty charge port for $60 (+$250). Picking up my new 6a today!

        • Picking up my new 6a today!

Oops didn't realise that it's pre-order only today, release date is next Thursday. I've placed my order so just have to wait until next Thursday for collection.

  • I feel like a samsung a32 at the same pricepoint is better in basically every way except maybe waterproofing. What's the hype on these?

    • 5G support (the 5g version of a32 doesn't have as good of a screen and is TFT rather than AMOLED compared to the 4g version)
      Much faster processor and GPU
      Dust and water resistance
      Better camera
      Lighter
      18W vs 15W charging speed
      Supposedly super fast fingerprint scanner
Apparently the screen on a32 is not that good despite 90hz and the high nits, people say pixels are better

But yeah a32 slightly better batt life and headphone jack. And slightly bigger screen if that's your thing.

I'd pick the pixel 6a over a32 just due to good camera and processor as well as 5g, noting that the 5g version of the a32 has a heavily downgraded screen

I also like clean android rather than one UI.

But both phones pretty good for the price range

      Wish 6a had headphone jack.

  • As per the validity dates for this posting, I assume we can wait for the reviews to come out on YouTube before taking up this bonus trade-in offer?

  • "We'll give you $10 for a phone you could sell on Gumtree for $200." Where do I sign up?

    • +3

They are really giving you $260… you only get the card with the trade in.

  • Iphone 7 plus = $100 trade value. Not sure if it's really worthwhile tbh. iPhone 6 is worth nothing sadly :(

  • Wonder when the pixel buds pro will be available. Keen on hearing some thoughts on them when they come out.

    • Wonder when the pixel buds pro will be available. Keen on hearing some thoughts on them when they come out.

I had some Apple Airpods which at the time were supposed to be quite good but they didn't come close to my $20 BT headband off ebay. And every earbud I've tried was even worse. Sure the headband looks ridiculous, but the fact that the speakers are firmly strapped to your skull gives great frequency response directly to the eardrums :)

      • mind sharing a link to your particular $20 BT headband, please?

        • mind sharing a link to your particular $20 BT headband, please?

This is the first link the comes up, but there are tonnes of sellers selling the same thing: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331569128709
Try them then compare with $200+ ear buds and you'll wonder where the money goes…

    • +1

I just got an email from Google, pre-order is available now.

      • Hopefully reviews drop a bit before they come out. I'm interested but need to see if there's any issues before i purchase.

  • Offering me $100 on my pixel 4a + the $250 cashback, plus I can get 5% off through employee discounts… seems like a good deal or am I missing something?

    • That a decent deal for less than $362 after trade in.

  • I like smaller phones and tossing up between 6a or S22. Only downside on S22 is the small battery/SOT. Recently got the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds from Prime Day sales, so weighing up whether to jump ship from the Pixel 4a to Samsung ecosystem. Decisions!

  • What happens if you get your devices valued at $x using the online tool and when you post it, they disagree with the condition, has anyone experienced this before?

    • They take your CC details for this purpose. Presumably they penalise you for a false declaration.

  • +1

Just filled it out but didn't get the bonus $250 coupon, despite clicking on the link in the email. Their website is extremely buggy and seems like it was developed by a 12 year old.

    • developed by a 12 yo

      That would explain this :-)

  • +2

I cannot see any Trade-In option on Google Pixel 6a 5G page. Am I missing something here. Can someone point me to right direction.

    • I had a look and couldn't find anything either…

    • Its on the 6a product page now

      • All good now, got an email from JB too with details of offer. Link showing on the page.

        • I sent an email to Square Trade Up's support email address and got the coupon code within a few minutes. Completed my order and pretty happy with the price. Thanks op!

  • I don't know If I trade in partner's iPhone 8 worth $100 + $250 bonus for pixel6a or get $150 from Apple towards a new Apple watch.
P6a would be for me, watch for her ^^

  • Can you stack with JB hi-fi gift card with the new purchase?

  • Thanks OP! Managed to snag one and used my 2020 iPhone SE as the trade in. $160 wasn't much but it was the $250 trade in that swayed me since there's no chance I'd get anywhere near that much combined if I sold it privately. Looking forward to get my hands on a Pixel again, hopefully this does not disappoint.

  • Thanks OP, only received this deal in my inbox this morning from JBHifi!

Tried running through the process - have the $50 credit but no $250 bonus to be emailed through after clicking the link in the email from SquareTrade up

Hope OzB cashing in on the deal hasn't crashed their systems!

    • +1

I had the same issue. Clicked the P6a link, nada but I clicked the Oppo link and it worked?! I msg'd them and requested a P6a code instead and got one in less than 1hr via email. Hopefully that works for you

      • +1

Yep, their support team just replied to my query with a code. If anyone else doesn't get it try that - response was within 15 minutes

  • Hmmm…tempted to upgrade from my Pixel 3a.

  • +2

Pro tip: if you guys don’t have a phone to trade in for the bonus $250 credit, Telstra is currently offering it for $649 outright on their store

Not too sure if JB can price match it JB won’t do it because I’m not a Telstra customer with an active plan (even tho I’ve an active Telstra ID from Boost)

    • (even tho I’ve an active Telstra ID from Boost)

You can buy from Telstra ID login.

      • +1

I could but I was hoping JB would price match it. That would make this deal even better with the bonus $250 trade in

I tried explaining it via the JB 13 number but they wouldn’t do it

        • Someone else later in this thread said they got a price match. Not sure if it's BS though
