  • Hmm…. trying to decide if this is a good deal or not. Haven't seen the duo come up in the past 6 months.

Potentially get a better deal with buying the machine and grinder seperately.

Not a bad deal but I would expect more for this prime thing..

  • +1

Deals on this gem have been pretty scarce lately.

I grabbed the dual boiler mid lockdown… didn't get much of a bargain, but I've been more than happy so far.

My only real complaint is the black finish scratches way too easily. I wish that I'd chosen the regular finish.

    • If you got it mid lock down I suggest it's time to open it up and replace the seals.

Mine recently started pooling water and by the looks of things has been leaking internally for a little while.

Best to replace the seals preventatively.

      • Wow. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not particularly handy at this sort of thing. Do you know of a decent newbie's guide to doing this type of DIY maintenance?

        • +5

Sure, here is one of the most comprehensive threads I have come across:

          https://www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/breville-dual…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNZcCEMr7Z4 - on some of the ports there are two slightly different o rings which you can replace with just one of the 007 style o rings.

This is the kit that I have coming in the mail to replace all the o rings on top of the boilers: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/384391273957

I opened my machine up on the weekend for the first time and am replacing the seals tomorrow so if you have any questions that crop up let me know and I'll see if I can help.

          • @Nuggets: Thanks for the links.
Is your machine the newer style with the swiss filter and screw fittings on the boilers?
I think the newer ones have screw fittings for some of the connectors instead of the clip type in the earlier machines, but the o-rings probably still in the thermal probes on the top of the boilers.

            • @repeat: No screw fittings in my machine.

Probably best to open up the machine before ordering any parts just to make sure.

          • @Nuggets: Exactly the same here - I just ordered the same o ring kit last night after reading that thread and watching that video :D I ordered a needle valve for the hot water spout as well.

            • +1

@jimwyze: Some of the probes are very long so in order to avoid mucking around with the cable ties I opted to skip replacing those O rings. Everything else went pretty smoothly though. I also flipped the seals on the ball valve for the steam wand, a bit more involved but happy to have gotten rid of the slow drip that had developed.

              • @Nuggets: No drip of out of the steam wand for me yet, but some pretty bad dripping out of the water spout - I've left it for too long. It might just need o rings replaced around the valve, but I've ordered a new one anyway.

As for the steam wand ball valve, I may end up flipping that washer while I'm in there. Did you have to take the external steam lever off to remove the valve?

  • I'd say not a deal. I got deep into research and bought a Eureka Mignon https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/701518

and paired it with a secondhand Bambino Plus from FB marketplace, total cost about $800 and does pretty much the same job as this combo but much better grinding. And the bambino plus has a better steam wand, fully automatic.

    • Recently I got Eureka Mignon and paired it with my old Breville bes800 and fresh coffee beans however using naked portafilter and non-pressurised basket and I'm totally blown away with results. I'd say that machine is last on the list when it comes to a great coffee experience.

not the cheaper but still decent. I remember buying this with the extended warranty for less.

The black looks great but it does peel off (or get scratched) quite easily compared to the silver :')

  • I am loving the black sesame model which I have had for a month or so.
They have quite a different look to the stainless steel model, with a mirror/chrome finish for the drip tray and work area (and the rear as well I think) and everything else is covered in a gloss black powder coat (except the steam and water knob which is the original silvery plastic colour).

Here is a photo that shows the shiny work area in the black model. (I was experimenting putting a light bar in the work area of the machine at the time but it illustrates the chrome):

  • Anyone know how much is this grinder cost if bought separately?

    • -1

      $150 from HN.

      • Thank u very much

    • be clear that its advertised in HN at $280 (black) or $350 (stainless). You arent going to get it for $150 unless you happen to buy during a deal or somehow convince a sales person to sell it to you for 50% off

  • -1

Terrible deal! Machines still go for $799 and grinder is $150. Bought one from HN for this price 3 weeks ago.

$999 max for this bundle. Expected more from Amazon.

Of course shitters will down vote me for telling you this

    • Source? Only time the machine has been below $900 is with superannuation/first responders membership.

I literally went through the last 3 years with of deals.

Cheapest combination in last 12 months was $1,150 only once.

      • +1

It wasn't advertised. HN is commission based. You need to go in a speak to someone for a good deal.

Good guys /JB is the same but I never get good deals there.

You also want to avoid the duo combo and buy the machine and grinder separately.

        • Good to know this!!!!! Thx a lot

  • Price has now changed to showing $1250 for me.
