Apple Mac Mini 2.3GHz i5 2X1GB 500GB MC815X/A $585 The Good Guys Bayswater

120

Entry level Mac Mini normal RRP $699, beats the price that DSE had on Saturday

I know new model is expected to be released soon, but seems a good price for those new to the Mac. Don't forget you can use your own display, keyboard and mouse.

The Good Guys Bayswater is my local, may be available at other stores around the country.

Be an even better price if you still have the Aus Post 20% off gift cards from a couple of weeks ago

  • Looks like a good deal to me.

  • Throw Windows on there and you might have a nice little HTPC?

Better to put XBMC on OSX.

      • Plex seems to be the go (yes I know it is based of XMBC).

As stated by OP, it is overdue for replacement like 90% of the Mac range.

        • Just putting it out there that this one has a DVD drive where the replacement does not, might be handy for a HTPC

        • No, the spec heading of 2.3GHZ I5 excludes this possibility.
The last spec to have the optical drive had Core 2 Duo (2.4 or 2.66) CPUs

    • If running Windows, will any USB tuner work?

      • Yes, pretty much any tv tuner that is compatible with the version of windows you install via boot camp.

    Can it play Diablo III?

    Will it blend?

  • Awesome deal - but new one is just around the corner!!! This works out to be $468 with vouchers. Might still wait it out though.

    • How come 468? what sort of vouchers? can anyone please explain how I can get it for $468? thanks

      • As per OP's 4th point.

was just about to write the very same. Bought one a little while back not knowing they dropped the CD player. Made it a no deal for my application, so had to return.

Correct, a common fault on many listings.

I plan to use an external USB Blu Ray player, so I can get around region restriction issues.

  • Waiting for the new one :)

  • Just to be clear not all good guys store will have it, but you can call their techzone just to be sure.

Auburn Good Guys doesn't stock any just for reference.

That's Apple for you… "never" any spec's… "Trust us, it's worth the price" :-/

(It seems to be the size of an Apple Server, but is it the same or what?)

I presume you'd have to use "all" Apple gear to get it to work [optimally], right?

      What are you on about?
Are you having a go at Apple, because The Good Guys haven't bothered to post specs let alone the correct picture. That makes a lot of rational sense.
I spent a few hours and millions of dollars, but I was able to track down this very secretive information on all Mac minis specifications.
      http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_mi…

As for having to use ""all" Apple gear" - no, you can choose whatever monitor, keyboard and mouse you so desire. In fact many people (Apple zealots included) dislike the magic mouse and always use non Apple mice.

      • yeah.. non apple mouse rocks!!! I bet you some ppl will use Microsoft mouse on Macs. So what?
