nbn, Opticomm, LBNCo Broadband 50/20 $53.95/M,100/20 $68.95/M,100/40 $77.95/M for 6 Months (No Contract, New Customers) @ Exetel

2363

Sort of a repost of this deal but with some updated lower prices across nbn, Opticomm and LBN Co fibres. On top of that new addition is exetel can help with you nbn upgrade (from FTTC/FTTN) to FTTP as well if you are in an eligible area. Check more details here

Plans available to new residential nbn™ customers only.

Services that are paid by Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) incur a 1.0% transaction fee. You can pay by Direct Debit from your bank to avoid these fees.

You may cancel your service at any time by giving Exetel thirty days’ notice (including if you do not wish to continue to use your service during the notice period).

Also get 5 free speedboosts per month as listed here

Some amazingly good plans from Exetel which are now in line with prices on the Comm Bank targeted deal of 30-40% off. Only catch is prices rise after the 6 months honeymoon period, by that time the new nbn pricing agreement should see some big upgrades in terms of nbn ditching CVC and moving to fixed AVC for high speed plan and we should have NZ like internet UL 1000/400 for $99 a month (I know I am dreaming lol)

50/20 $53.95 per month (now $1 cheaper)
100/20 $68.95 per month (now $1 cheaper)
100/40 $77.95 per month ((now $2 cheaper)

No $99 activation fee like other providers charge for Opticomm Fibre (like Aussie Broadband)

Also now the $10/mth Unlimited call pack (VOIP and can transfer your no) which includes the following is now just $5 per month after the Slash My Bill discount.

Unlimited local & national calls
Unlimited 1300/13 calls
Unlimited calls to Australian mobiles (in Australia)
Unlimited international calls to: UK, New Zealand, USA, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, France, Canada, China, Singapore, India and Croatia. Other country call rates.

TAKE $5/MTH OFF your broadband bill every month when you order this eligible SLASH MY BILL bundle service.

I recently transferred across from Origin/ABB free 2 months deal to this on on Opticomm Fibre/FTTP and was transferred without any hassle. I signed up on the 100/20 unlimited plan for $69.95 and pretty much getting around ~110-115 Mbps downloads and ~18-20 Mbps uploads all throughout the time (have Sam Knows box paired up with eero 6 mesh to monitor performance)

Download speeds over-provisioned by around 15% as probably they want to stay at No 1 of the ACCC Measuring Broadband Australia Report
Currently Ranked 1 in ACCC Measuring Broadband Australia Report from June 2022
No lock in contract (there is a 30 day notice period if you want to transfer/churn/cancel)
Free VoIP (works great for my alarm system) which works with VoIP handset as well as SIP software
Free Home Secure for 3 months (seems to be a decent network security without needing to install any software and works even with custom DNS)
Does not seem to throttle torrents etc
Good content peering with CDN, all streaming services picked up 4k within 10-20 seconds even with a 50/20 multi user household
Uses Superloop backbone network, so international speeds are pretty great (Exetel is now owned by Superloop)

Feel free to use the OzBargain referral wiki (use referral code during sign-up at Payment Details step, Did a friend refer you?

Referrer code https://www.ozbargain.com.au/api/referral/827/72894) to give a fellow OzBargainer 10% off on their plans and you can also activate and combine with Cashrewards to get a $75 cashback (for nbn new customer sign-ups only, not applicable for Opticomm/LBN Fibre)

    • Web chat is great though

    • Set a reminder at 5th month anniversary, and give them a 30 day notice. They will usually match current active promo for another 6/12 months. If you don't ask you dont get.

Anyway there are 10000s of people on OzBargain who has been hopping $1 deals and free months and doesn't mind the downtime while switching or sub par support as long as it cost them pennies.

I have been with Exetel from the beginning, they used to have issues here and there but now I can’t think of one except the one month termination thing.

Speeds are great, support is great, I have no issues.

The Speedboost is a great plus, you basically get a two months of double speed a year.

    Recommended.

    • Hi mate, what modem do you use? Could you please share ?

      • Using a Netcomm NF4V.

        • Could i ask you to do a simple speedtest on Exetel?

Go to https://www.speedtest.net/ and do a test to 'Structured Communications' in London.

I just want to know what ping you are getting

Only if you get the time. Thank you

          • +1

@StarvingOat: You can test out for yourself via their lg server
            https://lg.exetel.com.au/

(I got between 270 and 330ms for the couple of tests I did via speed test app as a reference)

  • Is the $110 cashback only for the 100/20 plan?

    • +1

      I don’t think so .
It says all NBN, I signed up for 100/40, finger crossed

      • Ok cool thanks!

    • +2

Nope, I signed up for the 50/20 plan and the cash back got tracked immediately

      • Great! Thats the plan I want

      • Mine did not get tracked immediately… maybe tomorrow .

      • can we use referral code or will that void cashback?

        • +1

Its not a code listed on cashrewards so its best to not try

  • VLAN tagging with exetel ?
Australian help desk ? I'd rather pay extra and have an Aussie answer the phone.

    • +1

PPPoE and no VLAN ID. Call centre based in Sri Lanka.

  • Will the cashback work for opticomm plans ?

    • “combine with Cashrewards to get a $110 cashback (for nbn new customer sign-ups only, not applicable for Opticomm/LBN Fibre)”

      • Thanks mate

  • Do they run NAT? and can you opt out, I need to be able to access my plex/network externally.

  • +1

Can we sign up with a future start date?

    • +1

      Yes.

      • Like a couple of months in future?

        • Wondering this too and if it'll invalidate CR cashback if too far into the future

          • @CVonC: TBH this happened last time with one of the providers I churned to. Easily sorted via Telecommunication ombudsman complaint, they hate those.

            • @meowsers: You mean you contested a cashback via TIO?

              • @CVonC: Yeah because technically it's their marketing. They ended up applying a promotional credit to my account. (not exetel another provider)

  • Made an order an hour ago and suddenly my NBN with my current provider died. Could this be connected? Exetel website says order placed but not activated.

    • +1

Not connected. You have to configure your router settings to PPPoE and put in the Exetel credentials emailed to you.

      • +1

Got nothing by email and I signed up an hour ago.

Trying to log in to old providers account it's not working either.

        Wtf is going on

You would think your old internet would keep working until the new service is set up.

        • +6

You'll get an email shortly with new pppoe credentials from exetel
Or call their support in the morning

The disadvantage with exetel is that they use pppoe instead of ipoe meaning you need username and pass, so the quick NBN churn isn't as seamless as between ipoe based providers

          • @SBOB: Where do I enter my username and password?

            • +1

              @alz: In your router settings.
Look for something like internet Setup, then Internet Connection Type.
Most probably it would have been on DHCP or PPPoE.

Change the type to PPPoE, and then write the new username and password provided in your welcome email.

You have to know how to access the main setup of your Router to change this.

              • @Os Os: so we don't need to do anything to that black small modem that's connected directly connected to the wall?

the new Exetel username and password need to go to router, right? the one that emits WiFi signal and where all of our devices connected to, right? i.e. TP-Link Archer routers etc

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Correct. "Black small modem" is not touched. Settings are changed in the Router.

    • Happening to me too. Safe to say it’s connected to signing up to this

      • Yeah me too. I got the SERVICE username and password email about 10 mins after they connected me. (Don’t use your Exetel web page login)

        • Hey got it too

Where do I enter the username and password?

Tried logging in to my voda router via 192.168.1.1 and logins don't work

          I'm confused.

          • @alz: Your router is prob just admin / admin or similar (can Google this usually).

Then once you’re logged in find the Pppoe section and chuck in the service details. Might not even need to reboot the router, should start working a minute or so later.

(Mine is working on Exetel now)

            • +2

              @WhyAmICommenting: Worked now, thank you

              • +1

@alz: Yw, I’ve done quite a few years of Helpdesk ;)

I was surprised by the username and password requirement, haven’t needed to do that on nbn with other providers, not since ADSL days!

        • +1

When I went to superloop I didn't need to enter anything. Just rebooting modem and it worked! Nice!

          • @MrBillions: Yeah they were smooth for me too. I just want $110 :P

            • @WhyAmICommenting: Hey mate, I cant seems to log into my modem (netcommwireless NF18ACV from ABB ) on http://192.168.20.1/ with password admin/admin. It keeps saying your connection to this site is not private. very much appreciated with any help

              • +1

@bargainhereicome: Tell chrome to ignore that. That's a chrome https warning, should be a link below it to skip/ignore/you know but don't care….

    • +1

Happened to me too, check your email for your new username and password and change it in your router setting.

    • Same here…and still no connection

  • +17

I thought it would be worth mentioning my wife and I had to officially involve the ombudsman, just to cancel our service with exetel. It should have been simple to cancel, and we opted to cancel due to very common drop outs (which we had not encountered with any other provider at the same location). Staff insisted there was a 'manager's policy' (I'm not kidding) stating that whenever we choose to leave we have to pay for another 2 months from that point (we searched every policy, term and and condition and nothing matched what they were saying). (I'll cut this short..) skipping ahead, after opening a case with the consumer ombudsman, I received a call from one of the superiors, she addressed me with quite a stern tone, however after I explained the situation, she then said I was correct, and then insisted that EVERYONE I had talked to do far was misinformed and needed further training.
    So yes beware ^.^

    • +2

Yep, the key take-away is to plan your exit 30 days prior, although someone on productreview.com.au said they managed to negotiate out of that just by asking - get that in writing if you try it!

    • +3

This. They're called Exit-Hell for a reason. Added to my list of "Awful Australian Companies I will Never Give My Business to Again".

    • +2

But it is a no contract plan? So where did they get this from???

    • +1

So much for "No lock in contract"

  • So I just ordered the 100/20 and I'm currently with ABB under Opticomm. Do I need to inform ABB or Exetel will do it automatically like when you switch providers with your mobile network?

  • I am in one of the areas but NBN has no upgrades planned for next 6 months

  • I have an TP link Archer vr1600v from iinet
Will this modem work with exetel

  • $3.95 inflation tax

  • +1

Switched from Launtel (who are fantastic btw) to Exetel a few months ago on the previous deal, only to save about $30/mth. Really impressed - I work from home and haven’t noticed any difference in the service. Exetel was the only provider of Opticomm services that I could find (with a good a decent monthly fee, apart from Superloop) that didn’t charge a connection fee.

Don’t forget get to use a referral link!

    • Doesn't a referral link potentially invalidate cashback?

      • +1

There’s no cash back on Opticomm or LBNco plans

  • Do they provide a static ip? Couldn't find any info on it.

  • would anyone recommend purchasing the ZTE Gigabit H1600 modem that exetel offer for $130?
Planning on getting the 50/20 plan.
Let me know of other recommendations if not…

  • +1

can you get the cashback on the 100/40 or is it only the 100/20 on cash rewards site?

  • +1

I am with Exetel and can only praise the speeds I get. Way better than Optus.
Also their modem has much better wifi range than a $500 modem with six antennas.
btw, just turned on the turbo to test. It works as described.
THANK you for letting me know.

  • +4

    FYI

Just churned (HFC) from Superloop to Exetel this morning.

Used CashRewards and got an email saying it tracked.
Used referral code from here and got email from Exetel saying it tracked as well.

30 minutes after sign-up, Superloop sent me an SMS asking to confirm churn.
Lost internet for about 10-15 minutes before Exetel sent through PPPOE credentials.

Called customer support to opt-out of CG-NAT (approx 25 minute wait) as I have security cameras. CG-NAT turned off and got a static IP (no charge).

Not as painless as churn from ABB, but not too bad considering 100/20 plan for $68.95 with $110 CashRewards works out to be ~$50/mth for 6 months.

    • I take it there was no way for you to opt out of CG-NAT without having to call them? Some say there is a feature in the My Exetel platform with which you can do it?

Also, did you notice any improvement in speed etc after opting out?

        How do I opt-out of CG-NAT?

If you need to discuss your service or opt-out of CG-NAT, you can call our technical support staff on 13 39 38.

Didn't do any speeds test before change, sorry.

      • Your speed stays the same with CG-NAT on or off.

      • +2

You can do it directly via the web interface in their members portal/login.

    • was there an option to schedule cutover date? i can only churn within a specific date.

    • Same experience, 20 minutes of my time for a minor disruption in service and a relatively painless process. Sorted and no change to speed as far as I can see.
      Thanks OP.

  • Is it worth going 100/40 over 100/20?

Trying to figure out a use case for the extra 20 upload in general browsing/gaming/streaming usage

    • Most likely only needed if you are pushing a lot of data e.g. backups to the cloud. I doubt you’ll notice much difference unless you have multiple people doing video calls at once or something like that.

Games need low ping, but are not likely to benefit from the extra upload bandwidth of 100/40

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if you can get the $110 cashback and set a later start date? Moving in on the 22nd July

    • +1

It didn't say that you won't get cashback for selecting a future date. I selected it for after three weeks.

      • so you got an option to cutover at a specific date?

        • Yes.

  • I want to churn mid July (end of billing), will CR work/track if I set a future connection date…

    • Yes it will, just go through the sign up and setup activation to be within next 30 days

      • Sweet will do, cheers.

  • Does anyone know if the HG659 will work here? Thanks

  • Is there a 6 month contract on this, or no contact. I gather 30 days cancellation notice is required. So basically sign up and after 1 month send a notice for cancelling, having total 2 months of internet plus 110 Cashback. Cashback is on all plans including nbn 25? Also how further in future sign up date can be, anyone know?

    • Should be no contract but I wouldn’t leave until you’ve got your $110 and then you need to give 30 days notice.

  • Will this service work with myrepublic modem tg789vac v2?
    Using phone and nbn hfc
    Thanks in advance

  • how do I know if my HFC will be upgraded to FTTP? Do I need a specific plan?

    • Is NBN actually doing hfc to fttp upgrades? I thought it was only fttn and fttc in their current schedules.

      • from NBN.com

"Good news! It looks like your location is eligible for our wholesale high speed tiersΔ.
These speed tiers are designed to suit households that stream in ultra-high definition, with five or more concurrently connected users or devices^."

I take that as a yes?

        • Not sure. Think that just means you can apply for faster speed plans like 250Mbps etc.

Pretty confident hfc is not within the current transition to fibre upgrades being done.

        • Nah that message means you can get the 250Mbps and Gigabit plan over HFC.

nbn are not upgrading HFC to FTTP for free. Request a $0 HFC to FTTP quote. You pay thousands or over $10k for the installation.

          • +1

@Twix: NBN For sure is upgrading HFC to FTTP. You need to talk to your ISP and ask them if your area is been activated yet. Also for FTTN to FTTP you need to order above 100/20 plans for HFC to FTTP you need above 250/25 plans. Hope this answer your questions.

            • @imranauz:

sure is upgrading HFC to FTTP. You need to talk to your ISP and ask them if your area is been activated

Got a link to NBN site detailing hfc being included in the current staged 'free' fttp upgrades?
Sure you aren't meaning fttc ?

              • @SBOB: HFC is not included. It is FTTC to FTTP and FTTN to FTTP.

            • @imranauz: You have FTTC and HFC mixed up.

Upgrade from FTTN to FTTP by talking to your ISP and ordering 100Mbps or faster.

Upgrade from FTTC to FTTP by talking to your ISP and ordering 250Mbps or faster.

Upgrading from HFC to FTTP costs anywhere from $3k to $70k that you pay outright to nbn co.

              • +1

@Twix: Sure I have mixed it up. You are right there is no plan of HFC UPGRADES. My mistake sorry for the confusion.

  • superloop owns exetel anyway right?
