oh yeah another hdr 400 + DP 1.2 monitor that can't even do 170hz at QHD

    • Is there a better option at this price at this size and resolution?

It's just like the Samsung G52 32 inch except a bit smaller and a bit cheaper.

I think the Samsung is IPS and this is a VA panel.

  • I have this, it's a great monitor - not ideal for gaming because of the VA smear (though still very usable for me), but the contrast ratio, lack of DSE, and the wide color gamut make content look great.

I'm on OzB so I have dozens of monitors in my house, but this is my unit of choice for content consumption.

What are the downside of VA panel compared to IPS?

Getting flamed by ozbargain for being VA and not the superior IPS

You'd be hard pressed to pick the difference unless you had both side by side.

Very generally however, VA has better blacks and performs better in darkened rooms (most games and sitting dead center), and IPS has better viewing angles and reproduces colour a little more accurately (content creation for instance, and getting accuracy all the way to the edges of the screen).

For my PC monitor I honestly prefer VA because I don't care about viewing angles, and I'm not into super accurate content creation where what I see on the screen is exactly what I want to see on paper. The black performance and darkened room superiority is when I notice things the most, so I generally gravitate to VA… but there certainly are exemptions to the rule.

In a nutshell it depends on the monitor, so the VA/IPS argument isn't very important.

      • Thanks. VA gets a lot of slack, but they aren't bad compare to IPS especially when the price is this low.

    • VA pros:

      • Better contrast (noticeable difference for me, it’s no OLED but still better than IPS)

      VA cons:

      • Smear on some movement (blacks streak more when image moves) - got used to it pretty quickly
      • Somewhat worse viewing angle but nothing too bad

Over all I’m still a fan of IPS, but decent VA panels are great for gaming and other content.

I’d go IPS if I was editing photos or making videos and VA generally for gaming and normal use. And TN I don’t touch with a ten foot pole.

I prefer VA blacks and the smear to IPS greys and glow.

You get used to the VA smear after a few weeks.
For me, I can't get used to the poor contrast ratio on IPS displays.

For accuracy, a good VA panel is no different to IPS either so that point isn't necessarily there anymore. I own a Phillips content creation screen as my 'screen 2' with a factory calibrated perfect white point and colour accuracy and that uses a VA panel.

  • Can we get a deal on lian li infinity fans please @op
