  • Can this laptop install Win 11?

    • +2

It can be installed but it’s not officially supported

    • +1

Yes, I've used this method (link below) a few times on PCs as old as 11 years old (3rd Gen Intel Core I7). So far stable and installing all patches. One day MS could send an update that breaks things or stuff stops working but that's a risk you live with on unsupported hardware.

      https://www.techadvisor.com/article/744222/download-windows-…

Essentially you're telling the Microsoft installer program to skip some of the hardware checking (RAM, TPM, SecureBoot) and then it installs Windows 11 as normal. If you need a key to activate Win10 and Win 8 keys have worked fine for me (have not tried Win 7 keys but they probably work too).

  • Seems V cheap :D

    • +2

They’re usually ex fleet laptops they pick up from auction for under $100, clean and flip for a big markup

      • Seems solid :)

      • I have a few for the kids school laptops and older parents. They work fine for most things (including Roblox for the kids).

    • +1

Seems a bit exxy to me for the vintage and the V small SSD.
I bought similar 3 years ago and it feels V slow now.
Check the warranty for the battery - this is the most likely issue.

Waiting for the X390 comment… Wonder how this compares?

  • burner laptop :D

    • +1

I will microwave it after hacking into big corporation.

  • +4

If only this has more cores, two is not enough.

    • +5

      If you bought an x390..

    • Dual core is pretty rough nowadays but if you’re just wanting a laptop for browsing, media playback and word processing, you could do much worse for ~$225

    • Definitely agree that 8th gen intel with 4 cores should be what one aims for in a cheap refurb.

      • How to determine 8th gen? Is that i8? Is i7 the 7th gen? If anyone reading knows of any decent refurb cheap laptops, then please provide link.

        • You look at the number in the processor
          i5 6300u - 6th
          i5 8XXXx - 8th
What do you need it for? For students/web browsing/YouTube this is still fine

          • @LiteDough: Yeah pretty much just couch browsing. YouTube. Maybe basic excel at the most.
Have work laptop for when it's needed.

  • Intel i5 6300U was released Q3' 2015

  • +1

i5 6300u Dual Core CPU.. not the best but not the worst.. makes for an ok web browser

  • This isn't the 2 in one is it?

  • Nice price for a Latitude 7 with 80% battery and warranty, even if it is a bit vintage. Not an X390, but still good for school, or anyone who needs cheap and portable.

  • doesnt accept the second code for me…. $280

    UPDATE …its working

  • Thanks, grabbed one for high school kid to use.

This laptop or this other one for $100 more. Is the 8th gen worth $100 more (after discounts)

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165270347804?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • how do you get this 8th gen CPU laptop for $100 more ? it's showing $549 - $109 = $449 vs $224 in this deal. Please enlighten me

      • Stacking both the 15% off coupon (EOFYLAPTOP) and the 'PLUSFY22' code (22% off) makes the total price come down to $364.

        **$140 more

  • Can anyone comment on what "Medium Case Scratches" might mean in real life?

    • +1

Basically if somebody dragged a ballpoint on the case or dragged the bottom on concrete. It'll scratch the plastic. You could ignore, cover it with some stickers or fill and paint with paint suitable for plastic. Depends on how much it bothers you and if you want to spend the time. The computer won't work any different.

this is my 1st purchase from these guys and credit where credit is due… this is a fantastic laptop for $225 bucks… i mean wtf do you expect for the money

i dont expect it to be as good as a $400 x390 in the same way i dont expect a $10k corolla to be as a good as a $20k camry

the condition was very good, i would put it at 85%, some minor wear… like literally this looked like a corpo laptop used as a desktop so not much in the way of very noticeable wearing on kbd or back or corners

now back to reality.. dell batteries are traditiionally not good and true to form this one has 80% remaining which is fair

i'm probably going to replace the drive with an nvme 512gb as 128 is just too small. especially since theres no 2.5 drive bay

to me this is a dispoable laptop… if it lasts out the warranty i'm ok with it

    • You got yours already?

I PM'd OP about my order on Saturday but got no reply.
