A world of music awaits

Think of Spotify as your new music collection. Your library. Only this time your collection is vast: millions of tracks and counting. Spotify comes in all shapes and sizes, available for your PC, Mac, home audio system and mobile phone. Wherever you go, your music follows you.

And because the music plays live, there’s no need to wait for downloads and no big dent in your hard drive.

Music is social

It’s now easier than ever to discover and share music with your friends. Thanks to Spotify and Facebook, you can see and hear what your friends are listening to – just hit play on any music post.

You can also share music with a flick of the wrist. Send it straight to your friends, or post tracks on social networks. It’s how music should be.

Mod — free period appears to be indefinite, i.e. not limited to 6 months.

I'm giving both Rdio and Spotify a go for a week and see which I like more then I'll subscribe for a premium service.

Rdio has a cleaner interface, and I love that it can match your music library on your PC with songs on their service. Also their web app is really nice for when you can't access the PC/Mac program.

Also Facebook integration being optional is infinitely better.

At this point I'm liking Rdio better.

    • Thanks for posting an alternative :)

    • I use rdio too - it's actually really good, but I've ran into songs not being available due to licensing restrictions quite a few times (which is why I have a Pandora and Spotify account)

Also the rdio app for Android could be improved a bit. I don't know about you but I find that the volume is no where near as loud as the stock music app on android.

Edit: Also, the music matching feature on Rdio is terrible. I'd say the same about Spotify to be honest. Pandora is really good with that though

      • The problem with the matching feature for me is the fact that so much of my music collection is mixtapes and freely released albums that aren't on the service.

I think I'll grab an itunes match subscription for those free songs, and use Rdio for commercial stuff.

  • Anyone know of any coupons/discounts i can take advantage of?

I was going to buy 12 months but there's no discount on it (equals out to be exactly 11.99 x 12)

    • In the year that I've been using Spotify (US) I haven't come across a coupon or discount. Maybe we'll see some going around to celebrate the Australian launch but I doubt it.

  • JBhifi now is dead in the water soon :)

  • Instead of paying for the mobile you guys should try out Grooveshark it works pretty much the same with no mandatory sign up or Facebook!

  • Can I clarify that the streaming actually becomes limited after the first 6 months?

It says on their website that after the first six months you are given with 10 hours and every week you will be given with 2.5 hours of streaming. If you do not use it the hours will be saved but you can only have a total of 10 hours of streaming.

So technically it is not free unlimited streaming forever. Just the first 6 months. Really have to dig deep into their FAQs to find out about this.

  • I must say the ad-circumvention method via HTTPS proxy didn't work for me, stopped connecting after I enabled this. Guess I have to put up with the nagging Aussie voice telling me to upgrade to premium and other stupid ads every few songs :( They could atleast provide American advertisments, I'm much more tolerant of them and it doesn't feel like i'm tuning into lame Australian radio.
