Apple MacBook Pro 14" 10-Core CPU/16-Core GPU 16GB/1TB Space Grey $2987 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C) @ Officeworks

960

This is the 16GB/1TB model Apple sell for $3749 so a $762 saving.
Bought one myself. Did pick up to local store so no postage costs. Sure still near $3K but I can get gst back with abn and instant tax deduction for this financial year.
Have been using a M1 12.9 256GB iPad Pro that I didn't get on with just sold for $1400, so going to a laptop for my portability, also have a 24" iMac in my home office.
Been tossing up for a week v the 14" pro or even a MB Air then the 13" MB pro. By the time you bump the ram to 16gb and the extra storage they are getting up there for 2 year old models.
Anyway this is a bargain even $12 cheaper than the 512gb model.
Also if you have flybuys will get near $15 in flybuy dollars.

  • Sorry folks, looks like they only had 1, link says unavailable online now.

      In stock for me.

  • This is a bloody terrific deal

  • +14

Before any of you spend 3K on this, think whether your needs actually require the computing power of an M1 Pro, or if the Air would get you by.

    • +2

the other value of this is the brilliant and larger screen. Thanks OP bought one, finally time to upgrade my 8 yr old MPB with 2 battery services.

      • That's true. A lot of money to spend for a better/larger screen though compared to the price of an Air

        • air is 2 over years old and about to be replaced, also when bump to 16gb and 1Tb see how much they are.

          • @[Deactivated]: Let's see what the M2 versions bring then :)

            • @reloxation: we have a air in the house screen is average and not bright imo.

              • @[Deactivated]: Let's see what the M2 versions bring then :)

                • @reloxation: air 16gb with 1 TB is $2499.
Also new air is rumoured to have white border and white keys yuk

                • +2

@reloxation: Missing half the features you think it should have, half the performance increase you want and half as expensive again as it should be for options.

It has always been so, with exception of the move to Intel from Power PC and to M1 from Intel.

It is the (Apple) way. Now the rumours is the Air won't get all the fruity colours, just a slightly changed gold colour and a blue for something new.

RAM prices and storage upgrades will be the same money. Apple loves to wring the options rag until they can't wring it any more. Expect standard 8GB/256MB for the next two revisions.

                  • +1

@Daabido: I don't think people would be happy if they only put 256MB of storage!

                    • @reloxation: Apple doesn't worry about people's happiness. They used 64GB in the 12" Air and 128Gb in others for way longer than what was reasonable. Same with 4GB of RAM.

I would like to be proven wrong. I use a Mac as my daily driver and have since about 1986, except for a period in the 90s when they were insanely expensive.

        • Hell yeah the screen is worth it

      • nice, glad it's working.

    • +1

Yep this + MacBook Air refresh is imminent & well overdue

      • +1

Fingers crossed for some decent deals within a few months of release, and support from Asahi Linux too

    • +1

      I endorse this comment.

      • +1

but Tim, don't you want us to spend MORE at Apple?

        • +1

You should spend just as much as you want to spend. If you don’t need to spend more at Apple, then don’t.

    • Isn’t the M1 Pro twice the performance of M1?
So if you are a heavy user, the Pro would be worth the extra $1.5K?

      • +1

It doesn't scale linearly like that, no.

        • and even if it did scale linearly, my comment was more about this laptop is for those who have production level needs, not the average consumer. Hopefully Apple puts a better display on M2 Air and then it'd be perfect.

      • If you need more than one external display then you'll need the MBP. However, the difference is that the AOC price is about 2150 for the MBA with 16/1TB (same as this). If I were getting the MBP I'd want the 32GB RAM to go with.

        • I run two external display fine off my M1 MBA

          • +1

@TeeJay: But you need a DisplayLink adapter, which isn't ideal given resolution and bandwidth limitations. Plus drivers.

            • @happychappy1: Fair point

Just pointing out there's workarounds for it

  • Can't add and oos everywhere else

    • Try again, I just added to cart fine.

      • And when you go to the cart it says "Out of stock, remove item from cart to continue"

        So no, no stock.

  • Available at C&C Sydney Pitt Store store

  • The silver version is even cheaper @ $2797
I have to resist as my 2016 MBP works well except for battery life.

    • The specs change when you click on silver I believe

      • You are right! It changed to 8 core… they should have made it an option or another product item.

  • This is a legit question, have Microsoft fixed compatibility of the 365 desktop suite with the M1 chip?

Only thing holding me back moving to Mac over my Yoga.

    • +2

yes, 365 works pretty well, but MS Teams is still slow AF

      • +1

Teams is a universal app now, so it supports Apple Silicon. The only thing is that the audio redirect driver is still on Intel. The other option is to use the PWA version through Chrome or Edge.

      • +1

Teams is the only app left from the main app suite that still runs in rosetta

  • +1

This is the same price as a base model Mac Studio.

You lose the ports, but you gain the ability to pick it up and take it anywhere.

    • I would choose the bigger screen over portability

      • +4

        Mac Studio has no screen.

        • I was thinking of the iMac.
          The names are confusing.

          • @congo: Mac Studio probably would be a better name for the iMac, honestly.

  • +1

Sole trader with ABN. Can write this off as a DJ expense. How do you get GST back? Is it done through tax return?

    • +1

have to be registered for gst, if so at next bas.

      • Thanks. If registered for GST, do you have to charge GST for every sale of services?

        • yes

    • +1

If you charge GST for your service and filled out the BAS, you can deduct it through there.

    • You gave to make an annual gross income of $75k, then register for GST, then claim it back on a BAS statement.

Keep in mind you'll have to also collect GST from your customers.

  • +2

The M1 Macbook air is amazing value! I used 10% off discounted JB HiFi cards and priced match with officeworks

    $1497 ==> $1347
    Paid with 10% off GC = $1,212.30
Will claim 10% off GST at airport = $1,077.60

    • Will claim 10% off GST at airport = $1,077.60

I've heard they're cracking down on this?

      • Not sure…do you have a link to an article?

        • Just remember seeing something on OzBargain about it. Found this article but I thought this had always been the case. Bought a phone recently, would like to do it too haha.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks mate…interesting…practically unsure how they enforce something like this.

            • @slingyz: That's what I asked at the time as well. No one seemed to have a response

        • They’ve removed the $900/person limit, so anything you claim and subsequently bring back can be taxed. Up to you whether you want to risk it. I personally can’t see how they monitor such a rule

          • @SirFrankGrimes: Isn't there something you tick on the declaration card? I guess lying is a criminal offence? They can check if you made a TRS claim and see if you have that item maybe?

    • Hey, can I please know where you picked up the 10% off JB giftcards?

  • Seems to stock in QLD.

  • M2 better comes in June. I'm holding back real hard

    • Me too, but M2 13 inch pro likely won't have the display or other features of this model

    • +1

I suspect the M2 won't beat the higher end M1 Pro/Max/Ultra chips except in raw single threaded performance

    • +4

try not to to come in may. unless she’s cool with that.

  • In stock Melbourne

  • -1

Those waiting on M2 air going to be happy with white screen border and white keys? Not for me.
Also 16gb/1tB is $2499 now and will probs get bumped up knowing Apple.

    • what’s your favourite colour keys?

    • +2

Who’s talking about white borders and keys?

        • if the rumour ends up being true and it really bothers you that much i’m sure there will be aftermarket bevel covers or something

          • @[Deactivated]: All good I got this deal, don’t want a tonka toy, specked up with price increase will be near this price anyway.

            • @[Deactivated]: damn no white keys OR bezel

              • @[Deactivated]: nope just fingerprints galore on that midnight
A 16/1TB is the same price as this deal lol
                Glad I didn't wait.

  • +2

I see in stock for C&C in a few days time in the Sydney CBD so looks like it'll be shipping out to stores.

For this price, it's a real bargain. Highly recommend it as I have exact same spec bought shortly after launch last year.

    • Can it connect to 3 external monitors?

      • I think only the M1 Max version does that.

      • Never tried TBH as I use a Lenovo TB4 dock and a single 49" super ultrawide.

  • Anyone succeeded to price match with jbhifi?

    • Amazon have $200 off the 16/512 but HN wouldn't even match that before I saw this deal.
      Lucky.

  • 14 or 16 inches, for those who have compared the two? I currently use the 15"MBP from 2012…

    • +1

Go the 16 inch MBP (2021), you'll love it

      • This ^

Have always used 14" Lenovos and 15" Macbook Pro I always prefer simply for the bigger screen, despite me liking the lenovo keyboard and nipple a lot better.

    • If was my only computer and you are used to a 15" I would get the 16", I have a 24" iMac so this is for out of my home/office. might be hard to get a bargain though so

    • Go to the Apple Store and see what you like. Some people find the 16" just a tad too big to be portable.

For me, I was happy with 14" because I wanted portability since when I'm at home, I'm using a docking station/vertical stand.

  • It's out of stock.. any store that have stocks ??

  • OOS all Brisbane metro :( good deal though

  • Good deal for brodening on marketplace :)

    • elflipo yeah thought of that lol

  • Hopefully they send them soon, thanks for the vote of confidence.

  • i take it that op really like apple

    • +2

You got a problem with that

      • -6

nope not my money im wasting on overpriced junk

        • +1

          brush up on your English

  • Really good deal. Sadly, I had one in the cart but was too indecisive.

I see one on eBay (I think same specs) used at $3,400.

  • whats this instant tax deduction ur talking about
sorry new to this tax stuff

    • Got to the ATO and have a read (or talk to a tax agent/accountant).

For mine, this is about deductions (depreciation in this case) vs the covid 80c/hour quick deduction. If I buy something like this in this financial year, it will likely make a (painstakingly) calculated deduction more attractive. If I don't invest in any office equipment at all, then the 80c probably works out convenient for me.

Usually the hourly deduction for running an office at home is less than that, but you would normally claim certain other expenses on top of it.

My situation: I am an IT worker (employed PAYG), do not need face to face, and have worked mostly from home this financial year. I have a room set aside as a home office, and the vast majority of use is for work.
