That is tempting for the S21.

I've got the Pixel 5, someone convince me not to buy the S21 pleaseeee

    • +5

      Don't do it!

    • +2

Wait until security updates stop. Pixel 5 performs well enough with excellent battery life.

      • -7

S21 is better, minus the battery life, no doubt.
I had both and Samsung software is unmatched when it comes to options and customization. Even without options, software is way more beautiful

        • Is it $600 better though?

          • -3

@Cyb3rGlitch: I bought the S21 last year brand new for something like $600-650 so it's actually cheaper than pixel 5
When was S21 $600 compared to Pixel 5?

I have to say that i literally owned both so i guess i just know better from the average downvoting pixel fanboy

            • +5

              @nikoris:

              i literally owned

              What's the non literal version?

            • +1

@nikoris: I didn't downvote you. But you did miss my point, which was that the person already owns a Pixel 5, so the cost of the S21 is on top for a small overall benefit.

              • -1

@Cyb3rGlitch: Yeah, how is the cost of upgrade $600?
You will obviously sell your pixel 5 to recoup most of what you spent, if not all. Also i beg to differ, the difference in software is humongous, the benefit is huge.

      Don't do don't

    • +2

Had both phones, got rid of the s21 - wouldn't last a day off the charger.

      • +3

You must be a heavy user, my wife S21 still have 60% before went to sleep.

        • +3

Couldn't get more than 2-3 hours screen on time. It was really bad.

          • -3

@Tycn: S22 was worse too, even with light usage Samsung phones suck.

          • @Tycn: I had s21 last year and it could last till the end of day for me. Of course pixel was even better but s21 was not bad

          • @Tycn: Just checked my wife S21, screen on time around 1.5 - 2hrs, still have 60%, turned on since this morning 8:30am.

Are you sure you don't have apps drain your battery.

            • @superforever: If mine was like that I would've kept it. I thought about sending it in under warranty, but Samsung could easy say that they couldn't replicate the issue or that it was functioning normally.

      • Yeah. S21 battery is worst

      • Turn off 5G. Mine now lasts 3 days.

    • Yes. The pixel 5 sucks imo. Just returned the one I bought and got a s21 instead.

      • -5

        Smart man.
The worse thing about the pixel is the software and how limited options and customization are with them

    • +1

      I have the S21 and a Iphone 13.
      I like both.
Iphone 13 has much better battery life and a smoother experience
S21 costs only half as much and has alot of apps / features the iPhone does not support.
My S21 is suprisingly laggy for a current model phone.

    • Owned Pixel 5 and Galaxy S22. S21 will be similar. Horrible device - it doesn't feel all that much faster because Google's software is just that much nicer. I'd kill to get a Pixel 5 again but I can't justify the high used market price.

      • -2

I had s21 and pixel 5 and they were both very similar, i cant believe s22 is any different.
Pixel 5 is too barebones, it would be horrible if there was any lag on that simple software, almost feels like a dumbphone.
S21 had its moments (camera interface was laggy for some reason) but other than that, smooth af

    • Actually convince you? I've got the S21 5G and I can't stand it. Worst phone I've had in awhile. Don't know if it's that exynos chip or what but the whole phone is super slow and buggy. Apps such as YouTube have issues on many S21s meaning you have to roll back updates, etc. Can't wait till my 12 months is up to get rid of it

    • +2

Former S21 Owner here. The camera is good but that's about it. The battery wouldn't last me a day (even light use), build quality is meh, the grey colour I personally think is boring can lag and it ended up overheating. Apart from the camera and a few other nice features, I personally thought the LG V30 I had previously was a far better phone.

After owning an android phone for 11 years, I took the plunge and bought my first iPhone

      • Had similar experience with a Note 10, after only ever owning Androids went to iPhone for first time. Great decision.

        • +1

Don't blame you. Apple has it's own quirks and there are some things I miss about Android. However, at the end of the day, the pro outweighs the cons. What's ironic is that previously Samsung used to give you more for less money. However, now the price of the latest Samsung Flagship is very close to an equivalent iPhone.

          • +1

@nick90: I have an Android but my wife and daughter have iPhones. I just moved my wife off an iPhone 7 to a 13, and my daughter off a 6s. Both the old iphones though were still getting the latest software updates, and ran relatively smoothly. Needed new batteries for $50 each but thats it. My last two androids were cactus for performance and updates after 3 years. Have a Samsung S20+ and the lack of focus on close-ups is incredibly frustrating for snapping invoices and QR codes and docs etc. Such a minor thing but it nobbles what was an expensive flahsgip a few years ago. Rare for apple to have such oversights.

    • I'm still on the Pixel 2 lol

    • I've got the Pixel 5, someone convince me not to buy the S21 pleaseeee

Why would anyone choose Samsung products…

    • Do it (Palpatine voice)

  • +1

I was also told by a store rep today that you can get $1500 off a Surface Pro 8 (brings base model down to $299) instead of the $1000 gift card for the Telstra Port-in

    • Surface Pro 8 on a 24 month plan?

      • Yep so my understanding is when you sign up to the 24 month plan you'll get to choose either the $1000 gift card of $1500 off a Surface Pro 8

    • how?

  • +10

If anyone is looking for a gift card deal to stack with this coupon code, Woolworths is selling TCN Gift and Teen gift cards with 20x bonus points per $1 spent (and that deal starts tomorrow). The bonus points are equivalent to 10% of the gift card’s face value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points.

It’s definitely not as appealing as a 10% upfront discount, but that probably also means I won’t be inundated with questions from people wondering how to redeem multiple gift cards in one online transaction!

    • +4

I was one of those people. Massive thanks for your replies <3

  • +2

$37.33 per month…. Not too tempting to be honest.. also I find JB expensive compared to other sellers and 99% of the time they will find an excuse not to price match when others like Officeworks pricebeat. Currently sitting on $700 worth of giftcards earmarked for a new laptop but no recent good JB deals in comparison to eBay and other sellers.

    • check out their deal on the surface pro 7 + incl keyboard

    • Your monthly cost comes down further if you opt for the Pixel 6 (for example) and flip the phone

    • I agree. Telstra coverage is pretty poor at my holiday home, but I get perfect coverage with Felix (Vodafone network), which only costs me $35 a month for unlimited calls/texts/data. Plus sometimes I use more than 300GB, so it is good to have unlimited data.

  • Very tempting

  • +3

The reviews for the S21 are putting me off sadly. I would jump otherwise

    • Not sure if should go for S21 or S22. Need a Samsung phone for my dad.
I'd say this is a good price for S21 as the trade-in trick on Samsung website doesnt work anymore (you now get charged for not returning the device, not just the trade-in value).
Also, wouldn't mind waiting for S22 prices to go down - I'm guessing there would be a sale before EOFY.

    • Yeah I've had mine for a while after stepping over from a one plus 7, I don't mind it apart from a few annoying points.

      1. The usual (had it with every Samsung I've owned) you have 5% battery, 2 sec later.. Power off.

      2. Google rarely wants to listen to me, and I'm sure it's something with the phone blocking it from opening consistently

      Finally, and probably the worst

      The bixby/Samsung UI.

otherwise the $599 in June last year for it was a bargain

      • +3

I don't get the issue with bixby. It's hardly in the way. Also, OneUI is more refined than ever.

Seems like people are stuck mentally in the touchwiz days.

I personally find pixel OS worse and more cartoony than One UI.

  • whats the go with porting in and out of telstra for this

    • 30 days unless you get lucky/someone processing that doesn't care.

      • whatd you mean

        • You have to have ported out of telstra for 30days before coming back.
Checks are ran, if it comes back that you were on telstra yesterday usually they're 'That's cool but no bonus as you're not a new customer porting in'

  • +2

Anything to buy with JB perks voucher expiring tomorrow?

    • +1

Mine expires on Friday, don't know what to buy either..

    • I bought Batman 4K with mine today. Also saw a Friends pencil case for $12 :p

Keep in mind it most likely won’t stack with the 5% voucher.

    • I bought 2 x double blu ray pack during buy one get one free.

      • Let me just hop in my time machine..

    • I'll have it if you're really not going to use it.

  • +3

Do you get the gc and the phone?

  • Why the big discount on the Surface Pro 8?

  • No S21+ on special

  • +2

RIP anyone who got the $900 gift card with the same plan for $89 last week.

    • do i have any recourse or nah

      • Depending on how you signed up there might be a cooling off period, but probably no.

  • +4

What are the chances that they do $10/$20 port in credit?

  • +1

S21 comes with an Exynos processor. Is it still worth it at that price?

    • What's so bad about Exynos

      • +1

I believe they perform worse than Snapdragon. People here seem to avoid Exynos Samsung phones so I though I'd ask. Not too sure though

        • +1

The Exynos in the S21 is fine. Slightly faster in benchmarks than the Snapdragon.

        • +1

can confirm, exynos on s21 is pure garbage. unless I perform routine cache clearing and optimizing every few days, it will lag…. can't believe this is a flagship device.

          • +2

@PuntyBrah: Can also confirm, exact same experience. Need to clear cache every few days on every app I use. Whole phone is bugs and snail speed galore

  • I have a 5G modem. Wondering if I sign up to this and get one of the free Samsung or Google Pixel phones, use the sim in the modem and sell the phone for $1000??

edit: Ah I have read it wrong. The phone plan and phone are different deals, bugger.

    • +1

Can confirm this mobile plan works on mobile broadband modem

      • Just be careful you don’t get nabbed by Telstra if they detect abnormal usage, as somewhere it mentioned not to be used in modems etc

  • I'm currently with Boost, can i still sign up to this plan?

    • No

  • +3

    Port in credit?

  • +1

got s21 256gb from telstra day and can confirm, it's pretty disappointing battery and performance wise.. camera and other qualities are great tho but the exynos chip is SUPER laggy!

  • S21 tempting. S8 user from 2018, worth the upgrade for 5g use in the future?

    • +5

I went from S8+ to S21. Only did it because my S8 became laggy.
Initially disappointed the S21 screen small compared to S8+ but i'm used to it now.
Unfortunately the S21 is now laggy 1 year in.

      • App lag, reset to factory. It should go fast again. Albeit with no apps.

    • Surely your S8 battery would force you by now?

      • S8s have a burnin problem too.

    • If you want to stay with android, my advise is look at a Pixel 6. Apart from the camera, the S21 is a huge disappointment.

  • +1

Why get s21 when even s22 is about the be superseded?
S21 was a very bad phone for me… battery was shit and had overheating problems

    • Didn't s22 come out this year.
