The 789 has been $199 USD in the past, so yeah given 10% higher exchange rates and 10% GST, that's true.
Do you know if this is still a good deal if you are not going balanced or is E44/789 better even as single ended?
I think it does ok, but it's just a high value offering at the entry level, and an elaborate op-amp based amplifier. Other options are the SMSL SP200 if that's still on heavy discount (see OzB posts), or maybe the Schiit Asgard 3 if you want to step up.
Look into the ACP+ if you want to climb the value ladder - it's a DIY kit designed by Nelson Pass of Pass Labs - or the Whammy amp for another DIY alternative.
In Australian dollars, this is close to what would have gotten you the balanced version last year. Bloody inflation I guess.
