      • I don't have Australian passport or driving license. Couldn't sign up via chat as well

  • +1

Has anyone notice the cancel policy?

    Can I cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 22 00, messaging us or visiting a Telstra store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won't refund any money you've already paid and you'll need to pay out any remaining hardware or accessories in full when you cancel.

    • Port out and contact live chat saying you will return modem and it’ll be closed

  • +1

Anyone else get 'unable to process request. The contact is not authorised to make this change' message after clicking go to cart and then 'buy now'?

    • Yes; have you had a trial with them prior?

      • Their website is a buggy mess at present

      • +1

No free trial before. I had to sign up using live chat

  • Those who signed up, can you please confirm if credit check is performed?

    • They ask your permission to do a credit check.

    • They asked for my employer and residential history for 5 years. They also asked me to nominate a source of income that would cover the bills.

  • +2

Anyone know where it mentions you get points? I can't see anything on the linked page.

    Edit: I found it: https://plus.telstra.com.au/

For new Telstra home internet customers only, who take up a new Telstra Essential, Premium or Ultimate internet plan. Offer ends 12 May 2022.

    • Does anyone have a screenshot of the promised bonus points please? As they are trying to say the deal never existed and they won't be giving the point without proof.

  • I have signed up, when will they cancel my current NBN (ABB)? Will they be any downtime? I don't want to use their 4g before the NBN service is activated tho.

    • +2

It should be minimal. You choose an activation date ie 8 May. at 12:01 am 8 May ABB disconnect your service, you connect the Telstra modem, and Telstra activates. It may depend on which technology you have.

      • I chose 'as early as possible', the modem has already been dispatched.

  • Anyone have no points allocated after sign-up? What's the process if any to have telstra plus allocated after sign-up

    • Yes, I just signed up and no points. I ordered for a future activation date, so not sure if it happens when I activate or not.

      • Same here. I have future activation date too….may be it will come after activation.

        • +1

Chat said you get them on activation. The only problem being my activation date is set for after the 50k points expire. Shame, 50k can get you some decent stuff.

          • @[Deactivated]: Hmmm same here but I was told in Live Chat that I would still get the points. I wasn't explicit though.

            • @sween64: As in get the points if your activation date is after the 50k points promo?

          • @[Deactivated]: When do the points expire?

            • @macr0hard: The points expire in 3 years, but the 50k offer expires May 12th: https://plus.telstra.com.au/

For new Telstra home internet customers only, who take up a new Telstra Essential, Premium or Ultimate internet plan. Offer ends 12 May 2022.

          • @[Deactivated]: I think as long as you sign up before the 50k promo expires, then you would still be eligible even if connection date is after. Or did live chat specifically say you won't get the points?

            • @toobzy: No, they said I would get the points. So I saved both the chat transcript and the deal screenshot. I can let people know what happens. My activation date is 1st of June.

              • @[Deactivated]: Cheers! May I get the chat transcript? I'm also activating on 1st of June.

                • @SliverFang: I had to verify my name, number and DoB, so no.

              • @[Deactivated]: Update: I got 10 points, presumably for the $1 they took. Still no sign of the 50k points. I will update again on activation.

              • @[Deactivated]: Hello, are you able to post the screenshot of the 50000 bonus points deal please? They are trying to cheat me out of my points because I don't have proof and they are acting like the deal never existed.

          • @[Deactivated]: online chat told me I qualified for the 50k points (activation is end of May), it's from signup date not activation and that points should be in account within 14 days

  • Would an existing customer starting a new service at a new address qualify for this?

    • +1

Not a current service, no. If you had one previously, that's fine.

    • +1

Yes, assuming you don't have a Telstra NBN service prior to this deal.

  • Trying to get connected through chat. Website says NBN not available at my address, but currently connected and had many different providers before.

A painful process through the chat going on for half an hour already.

I am trying to get connected on 1 June 2022. Chat agent says it must be connected today, scheduling of service not possible for this offer…

    • I had to sign up via Live Chat as the address lookup couldn't find my address.

It took about 2.5 hours all up. I had no issues with the CSRs though and I was able to request a scheduled date for 2 weeks away.

      • I'm still on the chat, 2 hours so far. Got them to apply the scheduled connection date, but now having issues with pro-rata billing getting applied. Apparently the billing cycle is the 12th and I need to pay until the 1st pro-rata.

        • I don't have Australian passport or driving license. Couldn't sign up via chat as well

        • Still on chat, almost 4 hours now. No success to sign up without the pro-rata charges. Apparently it will always apply?

  • Does anyone know what Telstra'a default action is when connection new customers on FTTP, is it churn/transfer (same port) or new connection (new port) keeping old service alive?
Churn is what i'm hoping for

    • Churn seems to be what they say. You have to give them permission to take over your current service to begin the order. Mine hasn't activated to confirm yet, and I canceled my previous provider before the Telstra one takes over anyway.

  • Anyone have problems trying to get this deal after getting it before? I had errors trying to process the order. My guess is with their increased credit check system if you have left after a trial you are probably red flagged

  • Thanks OP. Good deal. Signed up. Goodbye Dodo you silly bird.

  • I forgot to set a start date and still half way through my ABB month. Can I get a pro-rata refund from ABB or get Telstra to change the start date?

    • I'd try for the latter.

    • +1

I could not find any refund policy article on ABB but they do have pro-rata so I am also hoping they will refund partially.

      • +1

ABB should do it. Have done it for me before when I churned.

  • +1

Lol $95 per month for 50Mbit. No wonder they need to bribe customers.

  • Ok, for the sake of saving 2 months NBN from Superloop and free 50K points and Binge (though nothing to watch there), I have signed up now. Hopefully Exetel offer will still be there in July. Anybody knows if there is any notification day to terminate from Telstra ?

    • +2

The main problem I see, from reading posts here, is that your termination day is the day you return your modem, not when you terminate their service. I guess if you can take it to a Telstra shop potentially that can be the same day. I guess to make it easier churn away 2 or 3 days early if necessary

      • Oh wow, that should be highlighted somewhere

      • Oh wow, that is bad.

    • Final bill is on a daily pro-rata basis, so even if you miss it by a few days it is just a few bucks/day.

    • +1

Anything stopping us from sending the modem back nearly instantly/rejecting the delivery?

      • Well scratch that, Startrack marked this as delivered at my property today and it's nowhere to be seen! How good! haha

  • For whatever reason, I couldn't sign up with a new account online. Tried different browser. Tethered on phone. So I had to do the order over the web chat.

Just finished the process - 2.5 hours after I started it.

    • The process is ridiculously inefficient. It like the person on the other end is multitasking with 5 other customers simultaneously.

  • +1

Was hoping a good nbn deal will come along- this is a Godsend (hopefully no issues down the track with cancelling and returning modem etc). Pre-ordered to be connected on 20/5, previously a Telstra customer (mobile plan) and was able to order with previous Telstra ID login. Thanks OP!

  • Bought one, thanks OP. We'll see how it goes. Last time around Telstra was less than stellar…

  • Argh missed out because I was trying to optimize too much!

It now says under scheduled maintenance :(

  • +4

We need someone to clear up the modem return / cancel process so no one get charged before 2 months is up

    • Yes,Can we just waltz in to any Telstra store and hand it over?

  • +5

Got my modem already from Startrack.

    • +1

Got mine, too. So far so good.

    • Got mine today as well, in WA no less.

  • +2

Very impressed so far with Telstra service. I'm connected to Telstra NBN in less than 24 hours with a new modem and 4G SIM. Absolutely easiest process ever. Connected in 60 seconds and no need to read instructions.

    • did you use their modem? im wondering if the service can be activated with BYO modem since on cable (HFC) i could just use nest wifi instead of the telstra box. if i have to activate i'll just use their box then swap it out for nest wifi mesh.

      • +1

NBN connection is scheduled for 22/5. I'm using their modem with the SIM they provided as freebie.

        • Oh so we can use it free up to the connection date? Mines 25th. Does it get up to the same speed we chose for nbn?

          • @MeesusEff: Last time I used it the 4G was capped at 25/5 speed. There might also be a download limit before it caps at an unusable 0.1 speed.

            • @[Deactivated]: Ah right thanks, won't bother then. Too excited to try 100 Mbps for the first time 😂

          • @MeesusEff: I guess it will be free till my connection date. I plugged in my current provider PPPoE details anyway. Won't be using the 4G much.

    • is the Telstra modem better than my NETGEAR® Nighthawk® XR1000?

      • don't know about Netgear. But I'm guessing it's not better/

  • +1

Signed up yesterday afternoon and the modem already got delivered

  • +1

Signed up yesterday, device got delivered today (Brisbane). Plugged device in (FTTN) and it connected to my existing Aussie Broadband account (as expected). Did some manual reconfiguring of stuff on the device myself (not relevant for most people & not needed to get the net working). After being connected for about an hour the Aussie Broadband NBN connection dropped and it reconnected to Telstra. All sorted.

    • My ABB connection disconnected literally like one minute before Startrack dropped off the parcel at my front door, I couldn't tell if that was a coincidence or not…..

      • Did you pre order for a future date?

        • No. Chose asap.

          • @beOson: Did you have to connect Telstra's modem to get connected, or could use your own?

            • @Craze: I used Telstra's modem as mine was pretty old anyway.

            • +1

@Craze: You can use any router.

              • @[Deactivated]: Sorry, one more question, so if using own modem, just reboot on day of connection? Also does Telstra require logging in (e-mail address and password, PPPoE?) or just plug and play?

  • Can anyone speak to the quality of the router that is included?
I just moved out and don't have a router, so want to figure out if it's worth copping the $200 price and not returning, or just buying another router. I have a FTTC connection if that helps.

    • It's hard to find a 11AX router with 3x3 antennas for $200.
Plus, people have reported that even if you cancel your plan the 4G backup sim keeps working.

However, a Telstra branded router has some disadvantages like not getting any updates unless it's connected to Telstra internet.

      • Thanks for the response. Is it a major issue to not get the regular updates?

        • Hard to say. There's a huge thread on WP about how buggy it was but presumably most of the issues have been sorted by now.

  • I spoke with a Telstra CSR on Thursday 5 May, I received an SMS with an NBNO reference number and an email with a billing/account number. I can't track my order or my modem delivery. Has anyone here had a similar issue? I was told I was going to receive a welcome email. I did delay my activation until Tuesday 17 May, maybe that's why…

    • +2

No. I could track my order from the start, and my modem is being dispatched today. Before that it was just pending. I ordered for a future date too, but the modem is likely to arrive at least two weeks before activation.

I have also received two emails from them. <NAME>, here are the details and next steps for your order. Then a second email: Let's get you ready for your service.

      • What is the format of your tracking number? How many digits? Any letters?

        • +1

There's two tracking numbers, one is from StarTrack which is a mix of numbers and letters, then there's the label number which is trackable from AP, and is just numbers.

  • Startrack have marked the modem as delivered…except it's nowhere to be seen. Thankfully I don't need the modem at all, but gotta love having to waste time chasing this up now!

    • Not just time, potentially paying out the $200 too. If it does come to that, try getting a used one to return to them?
